  • Polymer/layered silicate nanocomposites have recently received considerable attention from both academia and industry as an effective way to overcome the shortcomings of conventional polymer. When the silicate layers are exfoliated and randomly distributed in polymer matrix, the nanocomposites exhibit improved mechanical, thermal and barrier properties. (omitted)

  • This paper was to investigate of a adhesiveness for the plasma sprayed coating materials did salt spray by acoustic emission method in tensile loadings. The powders used for the coating were nickel aluminum composite powder Ni-4,5wt.%Al and titanium dioxide powder Ti02. These powders were coated on a carbon steel S45C by plasma spray method. The salt solution was a 5% NaCl and the salt spray times were 2, 5 and 10 hours respectively. The salt solution penetrated into the surface of the substrate through pore of the coating layer built in the process of plasma spay. Corrosion productions formed on the surface of substrate. The adhesiveness between the substrate and the coating layer is weaken by corrosion and the exfoliation initiated chiefly at the corrosion surface of the substrate. The AE events and energy of the corroded coating specimens decreased as the salt spray times increased.

  • It is pointed out that non-wetting behavior of liquid Zn alloy occurs on high-tensile strength steels, which usually contain Si and Mn. There have been a lot of investigations to improve the above wettability of liquid Zn alloy with steels containing Si and Mn. Although those studies evaluated the wettability qualitatively by observation of the surface of steels galvanized by Zn or exfoliation test of Zn with substrate steels and so on, it is required to evaluate the wettability of liquid Zn with steels by measuring contact angle, work of adhesion, spreading velocity etc. which are usually used to assessment of general wetting behavior. In the present work, we evaluated the wettability of liquid Zn with steels containing Si and Mn by applying a sessile drop method to measure the change in contact angle and diameter of liquid Zn droplet wetted on steels.

  • A cave starts to be destructed and damaged as soon as it's open to the public. Due to many convenience facilities for tour visitors, it's gradually polluted. For example, lamplight causes green and black mold while temperature rise caused by many tourists and lamplight brings vatting and exfoliation. In addition, visitors'reckless behavior have caused water pollution and destructed cave creatures' habitat.

  • Herpes zoster virus (HZV) infections are caused by reactivation of the varicella zoster virus. Reactivation symptoms commonly affect the thoracolumbar trunk, and rarely affect the mandibular branches of the trigeminal nerve. When the mandibular branches are involved, lesions appear proximal to the innervation area. This condition may be associated with exfoliation of the teeth and osteonecrosis of the jawbone. We report a case of mandibular osteomyelitis after herpes zoster infection and we present a review of the literature on mandibular-branch involvement of HZV-related osteonecrosis.

  • The Seated Buddha image carved on rock surface of Yuneulgok in Bae-ri, Gyeongju constituted of alkali feldspar granite. There is surface weathering by abrasion, exfoliation and break out. As a result various experiment was carried out testing rock material property to quantitatively grade weathering. Besides, this study is focused on properties of rock and correlation between things. Additionally, comparison of chemical properties to nondestructive weathering grade in the buddha image carved on rock. This result utilized on important resource for scientific conservation system compared with weathering appearance.

  • We investigated the rheological behaviors and orientation of three different types of layered silicate composite systems under external flow: microcomposite, intercalated and exfoliated nanocomposites. Rheological measurements under shear and uniaxial extensional flows, two-dimensional, small-angle X-ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy were conducted to investigate the properties, as well as nano- and micro-structural changes, of polymer/layered silicate nanocomposites. The preferred orientation of the silicate layers to the flow direction was observed under uniaxial extensional flow for both intercalated and exfoliated systems, while the strain hardening behavior was observed only in the exfoliated systems. The degree of compatibility between the polymer matrix and clay determined the microstructure of polymer/clay composites, strain hardening behavior and spatial orientation of the clays under extensional flow.

  • Here we show how by processing energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS) data obtained using highly sensitive, new generation EDS detectors in the AZtec LayerProbe software we can obtain data of sufficiently high quality to non-destructively measure the number of layers in two-dimensional (2D) $MoS_2$ and $MoS_2/WSe_2$ and thereby enable the characterization of working devices based on 2D materials. We compare the thickness measurements with EDS to results from atomic force microscopy measurements. We also show how we can use electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) to address fabrication challenges of 2D materials. Results from EBSD analysis of individual flakes of exfoliated $MoS_2$ obtained using the Nordlys Nano detector are shown to aid a better understanding of the exfoliation process which is still widely used to produce 2D materials for research purposes.

  • In this study, we fabricated the transparent photovoltaic device using 2-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides and investigated the transparency and photovoltaic characteristics. P-n heterojunction was formed by mechanical exfoliation and aligned transfer method on the transparent sheet using n-type $MoS_2$ and p-type $WSe_2$. Our transparent photovoltaic device exhibited the open-circuit voltage of ~ 0.15 V and the short-circuit current of 0.48 nA under illumination of white light.

  • Solubility of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) has been determined in various dispersing media by using the solvent parameters such as Kamlet-Taft parameter and 3-dimensional parameters. Nitric acid-treated SWNTs exhibit significantly improved solubility in hydrogen bondable solvents as well as in solvent mixtures. The forming bucky gel with ionic liquid allows for the new group of dissolving solvent. The dissolution behavior of SWNTs provides a route for SWNT dispersion/exfoliation in preparing electrically conductive films such as transparent electrode.
