  • There is a high confidence based on scientific evidence that climate is changing over time. Now climate change is considered as one of the challenges facing the construction industry. As no project is risk free and climate change has a strong impact on the different phases of the construction project lifecycle. This research aimed at providing a platform of knowledge for the construction management practitioners about the impacts of climate change on the construction projects lifecycle, identify the most dangerous climate change factors on the construction project lifecycle, and identify the most affected phase by climate change factors through the construction projects lifecycle. The study depended on the opinions of civil engineers who have worked in the construction projects field among the reality of Gaza Strip. Questionnaire tool was adopted as the main research methodology in order to achieve the desired objectives. The questionnaire included 127 factors in order to obtain responses from 88 construction practitioners out of 98 representing 89.79% response rate about the influence of climate change on the generic lifecycle of construction projects. The results deduced that the most significant influence on the construction project lifecycle was related to the extreme weather events, rainfall change, and temperature change respectively. There was a general agreement between the respondents that the most affected phase by temperature, rainfall, and extreme weather events is the execution phase. The results also asserted with a high responses scale on the need to alternative procedures and clear strategies in order to face the climate change within construction industry.

  • This Study aims at searching the meanings in the creative process of Ronchamp chapel by analyzing the drawings of the site, plan, section and elevation in chronological order. The origins of his architectural creation are identifying with the site(memories of Acropolis), analogies of crab shell, air plane wing and hydraulic dams. The architect informed himself about the site ,the tradition of pilgrimage associated with the place, and its devotion to the Holy Virgin; he looked into the rituals of the Catholic religion, spoke with ecclesiastics; he studied and annotated a monograph devoted to the site of Ronchamp. Also ,the plan required that it be possible to collect rainwater, since such was rare on the hill. In the first design phase, overall conception of building was carried out in the sketches and drawings from June 1950 to November 1950. The second phase in the elaboration of the project was from January 1951(at which time preliminary project was presented to the Commission of Holy Art) to April 1953. The modifications made were in response to opinions expressed by the patrons. The building moved to east and gargoyle moved to west, then, the elevations of north and west were changed. He designed the artificial land and bell tower from the first phase even after the beginning of construction ,he wanted them to be built .But they were not constructed, so the outer space for rituals of religion had no tension. I concluded that Le Corbusier had gifted ability and efforts to create spontaneous birth(after incubation) of the whole work, and the execution of drawings itself. He devoted himself to accomplish the project in spite of the change in situation or by clients.

  • Generally, many kinds of phase unwrapping algorithm are used to obtain three-dimensional features in digital holography. The Goldstein algorithm is ra epresentative method. which requires small memory capacity and short execution time fer an unwrapping process. However, the Goldstein algorithm has some problems when the dipole residue is located at the boundary. When the opposite residues are located at the boundary and the distance between the opposite residues is longer than the boundary, an incorrect branch cut occurs and results in incorrect calculation. We have modified the Goldstein algorithm to solve the incorrect calculation problem using boundary information. We found that the modified Goldstein algorithm could resolve the Goldstein algorithm's problem.

  • This paper was compared for the output voltage and efficiency of the single-phase Z-source inverter(ZSI) according to shoot through duty ratio D. The eight single-phase ZSI in this study are typical ZSI, Embedded ZSI(EZSI), Improved ZSI(IZSI), Quasi ZSI(QZSI), Series ZSI, Trans ZSI(TSI), Switched inductor ZSI(SL-ZSI) and Extended boost ZSI (exZSI). The eight ZSI are divided into two Groups. ; Group-1 which is ZSI with the ordinary voltage boost factor B, and Group-2 which is ZSI with the maximum voltage boost factor B. For the execution of the proposed study, the PSIM simulation was achieved under the condition of input DC voltage=150[V] of ZSI, load =30[${\Omega}$] and 60[Hz] output filter. The output voltage and efficiency of each ZSI were calculated within the limits of D=0.1~0.4. As a result, the output peak voltage of Group-2 was suddenly increased in a specified duty ratio D, and its efficiency was rapidly decreased. On the contrary, Group-1 shown the output and efficiency characteristics without sudden change compared to Group-2 despite the duty ratio increase. The efficiency of the Group-2 was sharply declined at duty ratio D of the most output voltage, but, in case of Group-1, the efficiency was slightly declined. Finally, the input DC current of ZSI with DCM and CCM was discussed.

  • Public institutions recognize the importance of cost management from the planning stage but they do not have an organized construction cost estimation and management system. Thus, at the stage of planning a new public construction project and estimating the cost, those in charge of budgeting estimate construction cost based on existing data and experiences, compare construction cost estimated after the basic design stage and the execution design stage with budgets, and then decide whether to continue the project or change the design according to the budgets. Therefore, we would develop the cost prediction model through regression analysis that can predict construction cost in Schematic Design Phase of the Public Multi-Family housing. Accordingly, if public institutions have a construction cost prediction model and management system that can estimate the optimum construction cost, they can make and execute budgets in a more efficient way than they do at present.

  • In the relational database systems the join operation is one of the most time-consuming query operations. Many parallel join algorithms have been developed 개 reduce the execution time Multiple hash join algorithm using allocation tree is one of the most efficient ones. However, it may have some delay on the processing each node of allocation tree, which is occurred in tuple-probing phase by the difference between one page reading time of outer relation and the processing time of already read one. This delay problem was solved by using the concept of synchronization of page execution time with we had proposed In this paper the effects of the performance improvements in each node of the allocation tree are extended to the whole allocation tree and the performance evaluation about that is processed. In addition we propose an efficient algorithm for multiple hash joins in limited number of processor environments according to the relationship between the number of input relations in the allocation tree and the number of processors allocated to the tree. Finally. we analyze the performance by building the analytical cost model and verify the validity of it by various performance comparison with previous method.

  • Ubiquitous home is emerging as the future digital home environments that provide various ubiquitous home services like u-Life, u-Health, etc. It is composed of some home appliances and sensors which are connected through wired/wireless network. Ubiquitous home services become aware of user's context with the information gathered from sensors and make home appliances adapt to the current home situation for maximizing user convenience. In these context-aware home environments, it is the one of significant research topics to predict user behaviors in order to proactively control the home environment. In this paper, we propose Multi-Level prediction algorithm for context-aware services in ubiquitous home environment. The algorithm has two phases, prediction and execution. In the first prediction phase, the next location of user is predicted using tree algorithm with information on users, time, location, devices. In the second execution phase, our table matching method decides home appliances to run according to the prediction, device's location, and user requirement. Since usually home appliances operate together rather than separately, our approach introduces the concept of mode service, so that it is possible to control multiple devices as well as a single one. We also devised some scenarios for the conceptual verification and validated our algorithm through simulations.

  • Database correctness is guaranteed by standard transaction scheduling schemes like two-phase locking for the context of concurrent execution environment in which short-lived ones are normally mixed with long-lived ones. Traditional syntax-oriented serializability notions are considered to be not enough to handle in particular various types of transaction in terms of duration of execution. To deal with this situation, altruistic locking has attempted to reduce delay effect associated with lock release moment by use of the idea of donation. An improved form of altruism has also been deployed in extended altruistic locking in a way that scope of data to be early released is enlarged to include even data initially not intended to be donated. In this paper, we first of all investigated limitations inherent in both altruistic schemes from the perspective of alleviating starvation occasions for transactions in particular of short-lived nature. The idea of two-way donation locking(2DL) has then been experimented to see the effect of more than single donation in distributed database systems. Simulation experiments shows that 2DL outperforms the conventional two-phase locking in terms of the degree of concurrency and average transaction waiting time under the circumstances that the size of long-transaction is in between 5 and 9.

  • LMS (least mean square) algorithm widely used in the AVCS (active vibration control system) of helicopters calculates control input using the forward path transfer function and error signal. If the error signal is sinusoidal, it can be represented as the combination of cosine and sine functions with frequency and phase synchronized with the reference signal. The control input also has the same frequency, therefore control algorithm can be simply implemented if the cosine and the sine amplitudes of the control input are calculated and the frequency and phase of the reference signal are used. Calculation of the control input is implemented as simple matrix operation and the change of the control command is slower than the frequency of the error signal, consequently control algorithm can be operated at lower frequency. The signal processing algorithm extracting cosine and sine components of the error signals are modeled using Simulink and PIL (processor-in-the-loop) mode simulation was executed for real-time performance evaluation.

  • Risk assessment is an important phase of risk management. It is the stage in which risk is measured thoroughly to achieve effective management. Some factors such as probability and impact of risk have been used in the literature related to construction projects. Because in high-rise projects safety issues are paramount, this study has tried to develop a quantifying technique that takes into account three factors: probability, impact and Safety Performance Index (SPI) where the SPI is defined as the capability of an appropriate response to reduce or limit the effect of an event after its occurrence with regard to safety pertaining to a project. Regarding risk-related literatures which cover an uncertain subject, the proposed method developed in this research is based on a fuzzy logic approach. This approach entails a questionnaire in which the subjectivity and vagueness of responses is dealt with by using triangular fuzzy numbers instead of linguistic terms. This method returns a Risk Critical Point (RCP) on a zoning chart that places risks under categories: critical, critical-probability, critical-impact, and non-critical. The high-rise project in the execution phase has been taken as a case study to confirm the applicability of the proposed method. The monitoring results showed that the RCP method has the inherent ability to be extended to subsequent applications in the phases of risk response and control.
