A study on the development of virtual reality for disaster prevention in households living with companion animals (반려동물 동거가구의 재난예방을 위한 가상현실 개발 연구)

  • This study is a study on the development of virtual reality to prepare for the increase in disasters of households living with companion animals due to the increase of companion animals. The increase in single-person households and DINKs(Double Income, No Kid) along with the low birth rate and aging population is raising the risk of disasters caused by companion animals in particular. Among these disasters, there is an increase in the occurrence of fires primarily due to the raising of companion animals. Electric stove fires caused by pets are the most common fires. In particular, the frequency of electric stove fires caused by cats is the highest. Careful precautions by the owner are necessary to reduce fires caused by pets. Parenting of companion animals causes pet loss syndrome due to emotional exchange. There are injuries to pets in escalators and injuries to owners in elevators due to disasters caused by the owner's negligence. In order to reduce injuries on escalators and elevators, basic etiquette for using escalators and elevators with pets is required as basic etiquette. It is necessary to utilize virtual reality to reduce disasters caused by such companion animals. Virtual reality can be experienced without a physical space in advance training to overcome disasters, so real disaster cases can be experienced immersively. Therefore, learning how to reduce fires caused by companion animals, disasters caused by owner's negligence, and petloss syndrome through virtual reality will greatly contribute to disaster prevention and reduction of social costs.

  • This paper proposes a new metadata schema for effective mobile service of augmented reality technology, which is used in the convergence of media into a frame among the real world image and objects of virtual world. The proposed metadata schema is extended from JPSearch Core Metadata Schema (ISO/IEC 24800-2 International Standard) with analysis of the functionalities under industrial requirements, and enables to provide an effective application in the actual services. In addition, the proposed schema is available to organize the exchange of information between heterogeneous systems. With development of the prototype system, the proposed metadata schema is going to be submitted and verified under ISO/IEC JTC1 SC29 WG1 JPEG AR standard project.

Anthropology of power and passion, active nihilism: theme analysis on Sung, Suk-je's novel

  • This paper examines 'an active nihilism' in Suk-je Sung's novels in detail. The focus of this study is formed from the critical mind in a critical perspective that in Korean novels before and after 2000s, characters who embody 'problematic individuals' of $Luk{\acute{a}}cs$ have disappeared and those close to 'active nihilists' has become the mainstream. The most representative example of this phenomenon is Suk-je Sung's novels. 'Active nihilists' in his novels are described as 'ascetics' who mastered various spheres such as 'billiard', 'baduk gambling', 'alcohol', 'dance', and 'book collecting', and so on. In the sense that they reject the transcendental conditions of the modern world and live in the space and time of play in which they can display their passion and potentiality to the maximum, they beings jumping over the 'reality principle'. Also, what they want to repeat is not the endless exchange of labor and capital according to the capitalist system of exchange but rather the repeated existence of their power and passion. This 'anthropology of power and passion' is 'active nihilism' which could be expressed as the 'subject of creating new value' and 'Dionysian affirmation' by Nietzsche. Suk-je Sung's novels sharply prove the stylistic essence of 'a novel' which has to create its own form every time, constantly renewing the narrative style of the past ideal model. In this respect, they are very problematic and his innovation of a form draws the attention. Further, this will certainly be the important object of research in the diachronic dimension of contemporary Korean novel.

A collaborative simulation in shipbuilding and the offshore installation based on the integration of the dynamic analysis, virtual reality, and control devices

  • It is difficult to observe the potential risks of lifting or turn-over operations in the early stages before a real operation. Therefore, many dynamic simulations have been designed to predict the risks and to reduce the possibility of accidents. These simulations, however, have usually been performed for predetermined and fixed scenarios, so they do not reflect the real-time control of an operator that is one of the most important influential factors in an operation; additionally, lifting or turn-over operations should be a collaboration involving more than two operators. Therefore, this study presents an integrated method for a collaborative simulation that allows multiple workers to operate together in the virtual world. The proposed method is composed of four components. The first component is a dynamic analysis that is based on multibody-system dynamics. The second component is VR (virtual reality) for the generation of realistic views for the operators. The third component comprises the control devices and the scenario generator to handle the crane in the virtual environment. Lastly, the fourth component is the HLA (high-level architecture)-based integrated simulation interface for the convenient and efficient exchange of the data through the middleware. To show the applicability of the proposed method, it has been applied to a block turn-over simulation for which one floating crane and two crawler cranes were used, and an offshore module installation for which a DCR (dual-crane rig) was used. In conclusion, the execution of the proposed method of this study is successful regarding the above two applications for which multiple workers were involved.

  • In this paper, a video conferencing system, which has been attracting significant attention as an immersive telepresence service owing to the recent emergence of 5G networks, is described. We propose a service platform for Giga Media based video conferencing for 5G convergence services. The video conferencing service consists of a traditional structure that provides information exchange through the transmission of video and voice of remote participants using a Multipoint Control Unit (MCU), a browser-based video conferencing based on WebRTC, a multi-view point video conferencing, and holographic telepresence centered on mixed reality. The paper introduces the trends and detailed structures of various technologies used in the video conferencing system, and compares the video conferencing system technologies and video conferencing service characteristics for the integrated Giga Media platform.

  • Product Liability(PL) is a legal policy to deal with global competition by improving domestic industrial competitive power and to reduce the cost of defect products. The purpose of this paper is to address the state of the art solutions to dispute on PL, in reality of a frequent occurrence of global product exchange focussing on product safety that is one of the most important functions of PL and to improve solution of the product safety and reliability responsive to PL. To minimize PL exposure, manufacturers should reflect comprehensive product safety and reliability concepts in establishing PL prevention policies. PL prevention policies are composed of administration system, product safety management system, and total quality management system in respect of prevention, safety, and defence.

  • Human history show the whole society changed rapidly and found that the momentum and foundation of such change is " the advanced technology ",which is, the advanced knowledge. The world is newly established based upon openess, spaclalization and globalization, and the each nation and company should have to adopt all the existing frames to follow the new world reality. Today is the changing period from industrial society to information society, and information technology plays a great role. As the information society moves ahead, world economy and social infrastructure will be based upon network society and various information systems will make an integrated information system. This paper presents that to establish interior design related information in the age of information with radical change of previous way of thinking, cooperative information exchange system.   • This paper defines the telepresence as a particular type of experience, rather than a collection of hardware. Defining telepresence in this way provides a means for examining telepresence in relation to other types of mediated experience. Presence refers to the natural perception of an environment, and telepresence refers to the mediated perception of an environment. Factors influencing whether a particular mediated environment will induce a sense of telepresence include the following: the combination of sensory stimuli employed in the environment, the ways in which participants are able to interact with the environment, and the characteristics of the individual experiencing the environment. Telepresence art invites the people from remote worlds to networked cyber space and creates the experience of 'being there' by making participants control the virtual reality system and receive feedback from their teleactions. It is the way to produce an open and engaging experience that manifests the cultural changes brought about by remote control, remote vision, telekinesis, and real-time exchange of audiovisual information. The principal determinants of telepresence are sensory immersion, sensory fidelity, cognitive fidelity and personal factors. This paper applies the 4 determinants to telepresence art works such as Ken Goldberg's Telegarden, Monika Fleischmann & Wolfgang Strauss' The Home of the Brain, Paul Sermon's Telematic Dreaming, Telematic Vision, Eduardo Kac's Uriapuru, Simon Penny's Traces and Paul Sermon & Andrea Zapp's A Body of Water.

  • The study chose two people, KimSamuidang(1769~1823) and GangJeongildang(1772~1832), as concrete examples representing the common female writers in the late of the Joseon Dynasty. And study the recognition on reality and consciousness of orientation in the poetic literature. KimSamuidang is commit to the revival of his family to pass the test. And exchange with husband through active study literature and practice wife law. She left the largest number of works as a female writer during the Joseon Dynasty. GangJeongildang is a Confucian scholar and poet of the late Joseon Dynasty. She also spent her whole life sewing and suffering from disease, trying to create a dying family. Teaching her husband's education, she established self-recognition, encouraged and supported learning. They had a equality sense of marriage couple as academic friends, encouraging each other to study, and by passing the test, they tried to raise their families. Also, although poor in rural life, the mind was the Independent women who pursued comfortable life.
