  • In this study, I analyzed the effects on stabilizing the draft system, boiler efficiency when changing excess air ratio under 870 MW load limit operation condition in a large capacity coal fired power plant and decided optimum excess air ratio. It is positively necessary to choose adequate excess air ratio for stabilizing draft system because air pre-heater pressure drop and induced draft fan first stall margin are changing when adjusting excess air ratio. This study therefore, measured air pre-heater pressure drop, induced draft fan first stall margin, boiler efficiency, loss and has chosen adequate excess air ratio adjusting excess air ratio from 1.153 to 1.127. So it is recommended that the operation point needs to be changed to 1.127 that is not only to decrease air pre-heater pressure drop and to stabilize draft system and to secure stall margin but also to maintain boiler efficiency to equivalent level.

  • The Rule of False Position is known as an arithmetical solution of algebraical equations. On the other hand, the Excess-Deficit Rule is an algorithm for calculating about excessive or deficient quantitative relations, which is found in the ancient eastern mathematical books, including the nine chapters on the mathematical arts. It is usually said that the origin of the Rule of False Position is the Excess-Deficit Rule in ancient Chinese mathematics. In relation to these facts, we pose two questions: - As many authors explain, the excess-deficit rule is a solution of simultaneous linear equations? - Which relation is there between the two rules explicitly? To answer these Questions, we consider the Rule of Single/Double False Position and research the Excess-Deficit Rule in some ancient mathematical books of Chosun Dynasty that was heavily affected by Chinese mathematics. And we pursue their historical traces in Egypt, Arab and Europe. As a result, we can make sure of the status of the Excess-Deficit Rule differing from the Rectangular Arrays(the solution of simultaneous linear equations) and identify the relation of the two rules: the application of the Excess-Deficit Rule including supposition in ancient Chinese mathematics corresponds to the Rule of Double False Position in western mathematics. In addition, we try to appreciate didactical value of the Rule of False Position which is apt to be considered as a historical by-product.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the relation between executive excesss compensation and credit rating. According to the prior research which show the negative effects of excess compensation on a firm's future performance, this paper expects the negative effect of excess compensation on credit rating. Using a sample of Korean listed non-financial firms from 2014 to 2019, I perform the multivariate regressions analysis of excess compensation on credit rating. I find that excess compensation is negatively related to credit rating when executive compensation exceed expected executive compensation. Moreover, I find that the result is constant when a fim belongs to small-medium business. These results show that credit rating is affected by executive excess compensation and the relation could be different by the type of firm's size. Therefore, this study contributes to the literature by suggesting the possibility that capital market is aware of negative effect of executive excess compensation.

  • [1] There are systematical errors associated with ionospheric influence in retrieving key atmospheric parameters from radio occultation (RO) soundings. In order to obtain better-quality retrievals, we develop a new method, hereafter called National Central University Radio Occultation (NCURO) scheme, to reduce the ionospheric influence. The excess phase is divided into two parts, namely geometric excess length and path excess length (excess length along ray path due to refractivity effect). An excess phase equation is presented and implemented in the NCURO scheme Whose performance is evaluated through comparisons with model simulation and experimental data. The model simulation is based on the use of the ionospheric model 002001 and atmospheric model NRLMSISE-OO. Results show that the NCURO scheme significantly reduces the ionospheric influence at altitudes above 70 km as does the scheme presented in the literature, and provides better corrections for the atmospheric profile. • There is growing scientific evidence linking excess body weight to breast cancer risk. However, there is no common consensus on this relation due partly to methodologies used, populations studied and the cancer subtype. We report here a summary of the present state of knowledge on the role of overweight and obesity in pathogenesis of breast cancer and possible mechanisms through which excess body weight might influence the risk, focusing on the role of oxidative stress in breast cancer etiology. The findings demonstrate duality of excess body weight action in dependence on menopausal status: a statistically significant increased risk in postmenopausal overweight/ obese women and non-significant preventive effect among premenopausal women. Due to several gaps in the literature on this topic, additional studies are needed. Future research should address factors influencing the excess body weight - breast cancer relationship, such as race/ethnicity, tumor subtype, receptor status, the most appropriate measure of adiposity, reproductive characteristics, and lifestyle components.

  • A theoretical equation was proposed to consider the effect of fill and ponding for the excess pore water pressure in agricultural reservoir on soft clay ground. For the purpose of verification of the proposed equation, laboratory model tests and field tests were performed and excess pore water pressure was compared to those predicted with the Terzaghi's method. The degree of consolidation according to ponding predicted by applying the proposed equation was close to the observed degree of consolidation on the double drainage condition(at DP-3) but it was less than the observed degree of consolidation on the single drainage condition(at DP-5). The predicted excess pore water pressure according to fill and ponding was very applicable to practice because it was close to the observed data.

  • The purpose of this study is to observe the purification characteristics of NOx, CO and HC in various catalysts and excess air ratio conditions. For this purpose, we installed various catalysts on the back stream of the coaxial diffusion burner with swirler. As the result, in the case of NOx, Pt-Rh catalyst shows very high value that is more than 90%-conversion efficiency without the relation with the excess air ratio. After excess air ratio of ${\alpha}=1.14$, it shows that the conversion efficiencies were more than 80% in the every Pt catalyst in the view of conversion of every exhaust with changing of the excess air ratio.

  • The present study reviewed the effects of excess iodine intake on thyroid function and the incidence of thyroid disease and discussed the scientific basis for establishing a tolerable upper intake level (UL) of iodine for Koreans. ULs are defined as "the highest level of daily nutrient intake that is likely to pose no risk of adverse effects to almost all individuals in the general population." Koreans consume excess iodine from seaweed, and iodine intake is strongly influenced by seaweed consumption. However, no dose-response data derived from subjects consuming excess iodine frequently but not continuously during a lifetime are available. Therefore, the Korean DRI committee set the iodine UL to reduce the risk of adverse health effects by excess iodine intake for Koreans with distinctive seaweed-eating habits.

  • In this study, tantalum powder has been producted by MR-EMR combination process. MR-EMR combination process is a method that is able to improve demerits of MR(metallothermic reduction) and EMR(electronically mediated reaction) process. This study examined the characteristics of powder with the amount of reductant excess using $K_2$TaF$_{7}$ as feed materials, Na as a reductant and KCl/KF as a diluent. In addition, this study examined acid treatment that affect the high purification of powder. The impurities contained in powder was removed in various conditions of acid treatment. The total charge passed through external circuit and average particle size(FSSS) were increased with increasing amount of sodium excess. The proportion of fine particle(-325mesh) was decreased with increasing amount of sodium excess. The yield was improved from 70% to 76% with increasing amount of sodium excess. Considering the impurities, charge, morphology, particle size and yield, an amount of sodium excess of 10wt% were found to be optimum conditions for MR-EMR combination process.s.
