  • Creep tests of the TiC particulate reinforced Al composite have been conducted in the temperature ranges from 200 to $500^{\circ}C$. The steady-state cree rate of the composite depended strongly on the temperature and ap' plied stress. The stress exponent for the steady state creep rate of the composites was approximately 17.5 and the activation anergy was calculated to be 390KJ/mol. The steady-state creep equation could be written as $\acute{\varepsilon}_{ss}$ $$(s^{-1})=1.5{\times}10^{-9}\;{\sigma}^{17.5}\exp(-390000/RT)$$. Fracture surface examination showed that the fracture mode of the particulate reinforced composite was ductile by plastic tearing of the aluminum matrix and TiC particle interfaces were offered as sites for crack.

  • In the current examination, a trigonometric shear deformation theory is hired to govern natural frequencies of a functionally graded porous microplate which is covered by two nanocomposite layers. The properties of the structure are varied based on the specified patterns. Utilizing the modified form of couple stress theory for taking the scale effect into account in conjunction with Hamilton's principle, the motion equations are obtained. Then, they are solved via Fourier series functions as an analytical approach. After confirming the results' accuracy, various parameters' effect on the results is investigated. Designing and manufacturing more efficient structures, especially those that are subjected to multi-physical loads can be accounted as findings of this work.

  • Apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASK1) is an upstream signaling molecule in oxidative stress-induced responses. Because oxidative stress is involved in asthma pathogenesis, ASK1 gene deficiency was investigated in animal models of allergic asthma. However, there is no study to investigate whether ASK1 inhibitors could be applied for asthma to date. Selonsertib, a potent and selective ASK1 inhibitor, was applied to BALB/c mice of an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic asthma model. Selonsertib suppressed antigen-induced degranulation of RBL-2H3 mast cells in a concentration-dependent manner. The administration of selonsertib both before OVA sensitization and OVA challenge significantly reduced airway hyperresponsiveness, and suppressed eosinophil numbers and inflammatory cytokine levels in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Histopathologic examination elucidated less inflammatory responses and reduced mucin-producing cells around the peribronchial regions of the lungs. Selonsertib also suppressed the IgE levels in serum and the protein levels of IL-13 in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. These results suggest that selonsertib may ameliorate allergic asthma by suppressing immune responses and be applicable to allergic asthma.

  • The purpose of this study is to conduct an in-depth examination into the cause of stress as well as reasons for turnover relative to fashion industry workers in their 20s-30s, thereby seeking effective improvement methods to reduce turnover. The study method consisted of one-on-one in-depth interviews to collect data on 15 fashion industry workers. Results were as follow. First, causes of stress for fashion industry workers in their 20s-30s include work related factors, interpersonal relations, and organizational culture, while the most frequently mentioned reasons for turnover were concerns about career track and aptitude as well as annual salary, revealing that self-improvement related growth potential is the most significant factor for turnover. Second, it was not one stress factor that influenced turnover but a composite of several stress factors that motivated individuals to change jobs. Last, time flexibility, self-esteem, and development potential were critical factors for turnover. Self-esteem and development potential that provide a sense of acknowledgment were especially emphasized as the most significant, revealing that the younger generation considers personal happiness to be critical and the more this aspect is not treated adequately the more the odds of choosing turnover. To mitigate this issue, an in-house educational system for self-development and an assignment rotation system must be adopted for workers to change to positions that fit their aptitude.

  • Development of a therapy providing protection from, or reversing gentamicin-sulfate (GS)-induced oxidative stress and nephrotoxicity would be of great clinical significance. The present study was designed to investigate the protective effects of Houttuynia cordata Thunb. (HC) against gentamicin sulfate-induced renal damage in rats. Twenty-eight Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 4 equal groups as follows: group 1, control; group 2, GS 100 mg/kg/d, intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection; group 3, GS 100 mg/kg/d, i.p. + HC 500 mg/kg/d, oral; and group 4, GS 100 mg/kg/d i.p. + HC 1000 mg/kg/d, oral administration). Treatments were administered once daily for 12 d. After 12 d, biochemical and histopathological analyses were conducted to evaluate oxidative stress and renal nephrotoxicity. Serum levels of creatinine, malondialdehyde (MDA), and blood urea nitrogen (BUN), together with renal levels of MDA, glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT) were quantified to evaluate antioxidant activity. Animals treated with GS alone showed a significant increase in serum levels of creatinine, BUN, and MDA, with decreased renal levels of GSH, SOD, and CAT. Treatment of rats with HC showed significant improvement in renal function, presumably as a result of decreased biochemical indices and oxidative stress parameters associated with GS-induced nephrotoxicity. Histopathological examination of the rat kidneys confirmed these observations. Therefore, the novel natural antioxidant HC may protect against GSinduced nephrotoxicity and oxidative stress in rats.

  • This study is aimed at to examine the stress redistribution mechanism for tunneling in an unconsolidated ground with inclined layers through model tests. To make the unconsolidated ground, two dimensional model ground is prepared with aluminum rods and blocks, which are frictional resistance free between testing apparatus walls and ground materials, by establishing the ground materials self-supporting. It is carried out to measure the ground deformation and the stress redistribution for model ground with tunneling by measuring apparatus respectively. For the ground deformation, surface settlements are measured to examine the deformation features during tunnel excavation. For the stress redistribution, the earth pressure acting on both the tunneling part and its surrounding parts is measured to examine their mutual relationship. Based on test results, precise examination is conducted on the stress redistribution mechanism in the unconsolidated ground with inclined layers during tunnel construction.
