  • Biaffine Matrix Inequalities(BIs) are known to give more general and flexible frameworks in control designs than Linear Matrix Inequalities(LMIs). However, BMIs are nonconvex constraints and very difficult to solve. In this paper, BMI problems are solved using Evolution Strategy(ES). Numerous BMI problems are solved to verify performances of ES solver for BMI problems and compared with those of Genetic Algorithms and Branch-and-Cut algorithm.

  • The rectilinear Steiner tree problem (RSTP) is to find a minimum-length rectilinear interconnection of a set of terminals in the plane. It is well known that the solution to this problem will be the minimal spanning tree (MST) on some set Steiner points. The RSTP is known to be NP-complete. The RSTP has received a lot of attention in the literature and heuristic and optimal algorithms have been proposed, A key performance measure of the algorithm for the RSTP is the reduction rate that is achieved by the difference between the objective value of the RSTP and that of the MST without Steiner points. A hybrid evolution strategy on RSTP based upon the Prim algorithm was presented. The computational results show that the evolution strategy is better than the previously proposed other heuristic. The average reduction rate of solutions from the evolution strategy is about 11%, which is almost similar to that of optimal solutions.

  • Variable structure control law is well known to be a robust control algorithm and evolution strategy is used as an effective search algorithm in optimization problems. In this paper, we propose a variable structure controller with time-varying switching surface. We calculate the maximum value of seitching surface gradient that is of the 3rd order polynomial form. Evolution strategy is used to optimize the parameters of the switching surface gradient. Finally, the proposed method is applied to position tracking control for BLDC motor. Experimental results show that the proposed method is more useful than the conventional variable structure controller.

  • PID controllers with constant gains have been widely used in various control systems. But it is difficult to have uniformly good control performance in all operating conditions. In this paper, we propose a variable PID controller for robot manipulators. We divide total workspace of manipulators into several subspaces. PID controllers in each subspace are optimized using evolution strategy which is a kind of global search algorithm. In real operation, the desired trajectories may cross several subspaces and we select the corresponding gains in each subspace. The gains may have large difference on the boundary of subspaces, which may cause oscillatory motion. So we use artificial neural network to have continuous smooth gain curves to reduce the oscillatory motion. From the experimental results, although the proposed variable PID controller for robots should pay for some computational burden, we have found that the controller is more superior to the conventional constant gain PID controller.

  • Optimum pole shape is designed to increase the levitation and propulsion force of magnetic levitation systems. Evolution Strategy is introduced as optimization method. Evolution Strategy is random based non-deterministic method, developed by combining Genetic Algorithm with Simulated Annealing. Trasnsrapid-06, which was developed in Germany, is referenced model to be analyze. Design variables are nodes which determine fields pole shape of a linear synchronous motor, and the model analyzed by F.E.M.

  • The evolution strategy is a good evolutionary algorithm to find the global optimum of a real-valued function. Since many engineering problems can be formulated as real valued function optimization, the evolution strategy is frequently employed in engineering fields. However, in many engineering optimization problems, an optimization parameter is often restricted in the bounded region between two specified values, the minimum and the maximum limit, respectively. Since an offspring individual is generated randomly around a parent individual during mutation process of the evolution strategy, an individual outside the search region can be generated even if the parent is inside the search region. This paper proposes two new boundary-handling techniques for evolution strategies. One is the ...

  • The degree to which parallel evolution utilizes the same genetic mechanisms indicates the degree to which developmental processes constrain or channel phenotypic evolution. A transgenetic strategy was used to elucidate the role of one floral meristem identity gene, LEAFY (LFY), in the evolution of rosette flowering, a plant architecture that has evolved in parallel in several lineages of the mustard family, Brassicaceae. The LFY genes from three rosette flowering species were cloned and introduced into a species with the ancestral architecture, and results indicated that changes at the LFY locus contributed to the evolution of rosette flowering in two of the three lineages, but that in each lineage a different set of genetic partners was involved. Also, LFY was shown to play a role in the evolution of flower size. Transgenetic strategy may be useful in the study of plant morphological evolution and parallelism.

  • In this paper, a new control strategy is proposed to improve the quality of the welding products. The conventional nonlinear power control system of spot welders is linearized using nonlinear feedback linearization technique based on differential geometry theory. An evolution strategy(ES) geometry is used to find optimal gain of PI controllers. It tries to find out the optimal control parameters by imitating the natural evolution. Some Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed variable power control system using ES algorithm has better dynamic performances than the conventional one.

  • Recently, it is not sufficient that contemporary firms satisfy customers to be really successful, they must create new value. To do so, many firms focus on the blue ocean strategy. The blue ocean strategy proposed the strategic canvas as a main tool for identifying the opportunities for value differentiation. It is easy to understand and for the use, but has weakness that is a unclear procedure to make it done. To complement its weak point, this study proposes a refined strategic canvas based on the concept of the business evolution that comes from a discontinuous evolution trend of 5 stages known as customer expectation.

  • The power telecommunication network is a important base construction of power company. The requirements of power plant operation, office automation, subscriber services make it to go on evolution for new structure and advanced services. For these reasons its evolution strategy establishment is needed for systematical improvement. In this paper, we established the structure of power integrated information network which will be able to adapt international standard trends, to support original power prodection, to have competitive power in the telecommunication service market, and suggest evolution strategy schemes for stepwise development.
