Background: Nanoparticles (NPs) prepared from biodegradable polymers, such as poly (D,L-lactic acid-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), have been studied as vehicles for the delivery of antigens to phagocytes. This paper describes the preparation of antigen-loaded PLGA-NPs for efficient cross-priming. Methods: NPs containing a similar amount of ovalbumin (OVA) but different sizes were produced using a micromixer-based W/O/W solvent evaporation procedure, and the efficiency of the NPs to induce the cross-presentation of OVA peptides were examined in dendritic cells (DCs). Cellular uptake and biodistribution studies were performed using fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-loaded NPs in mice. Results: The NPs in the range of $1.1{\sim}1.4{\mu}m$ in size were the most and almost equally efficient in inducing the cross-presentation of OVA peptides via $H-2K^b$ molecules. Cellular uptake and biodistribution studies showed that opsonization of the NPs with mouse IgG greatly increased the percentage of FITC-positive cells in the spleen and lymph nodes. The major cell type of FITC-positive cells in the spleen was macrophages, whereas that of lymph nodes was DCs. Conclusion: These results show that IgG-opsonized PLGA-NPs with a mean size of $1.1{\mu}m$ would be the choice of biodegradable carriers for the targeted-delivery of protein antigens for cross-priming in vivo.
We have studied physical properties of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) in a device with 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ). Since the TCNQ has a high electron affinity, it is widely used for a charge-transport and injection layer. And the TCNQ-derivatives have also been used to control the conductivity of the materials. It is known that a charge injection and transport in OLEDs with a TCNQ-derivative enhances a performance of the devices such as operating voltage and efficiency. To see how the TCNQ affects on the device performance, we have made a reference device in a structure of ITO(170nm)/TPD(40nm)/$Alq_3$(60nm)/LiF(0.5nm)/Al(100nm). And several type of devices were manufactured by doping TCNQ either in TPD or $Alq_3$ layer. The TCNQ layer was also formed in between the organic layers. N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-di(m-tolyl)-benzidine (TPD), tri(8-hydroxy quinoline) aluminium ($Alq_3$), and TCNQ layers were formed by thermal evaporation at a pressure of $10^{-6}$ torr. The deposition rate was $1.0{\sim}1.5\;{\AA}/s$ for TPD, and $1.0{\sim}1.5\;{\AA}$ for $Alq_3$. The LiF was thermally evaporated at a deposition rate of $0.2\;{\AA}/s$ successively. The device with TCNQ-derivative improved the turn-on voltage compared to the one without TCNQ-derivative.
We studied the performance enhancement of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) using 2,3,5,6-fluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane ($F_4-TCNQ$) as the hole-transport layer. To investigate how $F_4-TCNQ$ affects the device performance, we fabricated a reference device in an ITO (170 nm)/TPD(40 nm)/$Alq_3$(60 nm)/LiF(0.5 nm)/Al(100 nm) structure. Several types of test devices were manufactured by either doping the $F_4-TCNQ$ in the TPD layer or forming a separate $F_4-TCNQ$ layer between the ITO anode and TPD layer. N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-di(m-tolyl)-benzidine (TPD), tri(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum ($Alq_3$), and $F_4-TCNQ$ layers were formed by thermal evaporation at a pressure of $10_{-6}$ torr. The deposition rate was $1.0-1.5{\AA}/s$ for TPD and $Alq_3$. The LiF was subsequently thermally evaporated at a deposition rate of $0.2{\AA}/s$. The performance of the OLEDs was considered with respect to the turn-on voltage, luminance, and current efficiency. It was found that the use of $F_4-TCNQ$ in OLEDs enhances the performance of the device. In particular, the use of a separate layer of $F_4-TCNQ$ realizes better device performance than other types of OLEDs.
In a triple-layered structure of ITO/N,N'-diph enyl-N,N'bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1' - biphenyl-4,4'-diamine(TPD)/tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum($Alq_3$)/(2,9-Dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline(BCP)/Al device, we have studied the electrical and optical characteristics of organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs) depending on the deposition condition of BCP layer. Several different sizes of holes on boat and several different deposition rates were employed in evaporating the organic materials. And then, electrical properties of the organic light-emitting diodes were measured and the performance of the devices was analyzed. It was found that the hole-size of crucible boat and the evaporation rate affect on the surface roughness of BCP layer as well as the performance of the device. When the hole-size of crucible boat and the deposition rate of BCP are 1.2 mm and $1.0\;{\AA}/s$, respectively, average surface roughness of BCP layer is lower and the efficiency of the device is higher than the ones made with other conditions. From the analysis of current density-luminance-voltage characteristics of a triple layered device, we divided the conductive mechanism by four region according to applied voltage. So we have obtained a coefficient of ${\beta}_{ST}$ in schottky region is $3.85{\times}10^{-24}$, a coefficient of ${\beta}_{PF}$ in Poole-Frenkel region is $7.35{\times}10^{-24}$, and a potential barrier of ${\phi}_{FN}$ in Fower-Nordheim region is 0.39 eV.
The polynuclear hydrocarbons (PAHs) emitted from coke oven standpipe were sampled using three sampling systems, including glass fiber filter+silver membrane filter, glass fiber filter+silver membrane filter+XAD-2 adsorbent tube, PTFE membrane filter+XAD-2 adsorbent tube, extracted by methylene chloride and analysed by gas chromathography using flame ionization detector. The results of this study were as follows. 1. Because the amounts of coke oven emissions(COE) were large, the analyses of PAHs were simple and possible without evaporation and concentration. Although the generation of COE was high during early stage of coking, the airborne concentration of PAHs was low and increased during late coking. 2. The contents of PAHs in COE were 1.35-2.81%. 3. The index components of PAHs were fluoranthene and pyrene. Their correlation coefficient to total PAHs were 0.96, 0.95, respectively. 4. The particulate PAHs were sampled by filter and gaseous PAHs by adsorbent tube. The collection efficiency of glass fiber filter+silver membrane filter was 20% of total amount sampled by filters+adsorbent and PTFE membrane filter 50%. Adsorbent tube must be attached to the filter to collect light and small PAH components. 5. The generation of acenaphthene and indeno (1,2,3-cd) pyrene were low and concentrations of fluorene and anthracene were $20-40ug/m^3$ throughout coking time. Other PAH eoncentrations were sometimes high. The generation of PAHs was low at 4-6 hours of coking time. The gaseous PAHs were generated earlier than particulate PAHs.
An increase in oil and gas plants caused by development of process industry have brought into the increase in use of flammable and toxic materials in the complex process under high temperature and pressure. There is always possibility of fire and explosion of dangerous chemicals, which exist as raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods whether used or stored in the industrial plants. Since there is the need of efforts on disaster damage reduction or mitigation process, we have been conducting a research to relate explosion model on the background of real 3D terrain model. By predicting the extent of damage caused by recent disasters, we will be able to improve efficiency of recovery and, sure, to take preventive measure and emergency counterplan in response to unprepared disaster. For disaster damage prediction, it is general to conduct quantitative risk assessment, using engineering model for environmentaldescription of the target area. There are different engineering models, according to type of disaster, to be used for industry disaster such as UVCE (Unconfined Vapor Cloud Explosion), BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Evaporation Vapor Explosion), Fireball and so on, among them.we estimate explosion damage through UVCE model which is used in the event of explosion of high frequency and severe damage. When flammable gas in a tank is released to the air, firing it brings about explosion, then we can assess the effect of explosion. As 3D terrain information data is utilized to predict and estimate the extent of damage for each human and material. 3D terrain data with synthetic environment (SEDRIS) gives us more accurate damage prediction for industrial disaster and this research will show appropriate prediction results.
The aim of this paper is controlling ignition timing and load in homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) combustion with low cetane number fuel, hydrogen. Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) combustion is an advanced combustion technology that achieves higher thermal efficiency and lower $NO_x$ emissions than that of conventional combustion system. Dimethyl ether (DME), which has been researched widely as the most attractive alternative fuel of diesel, is attractive for HCCI combustion because of the easy evaporation. In this study, the single cylinder DME engine operated with a direct injection system has been used to investigate combustion processes and emissions of DME HCCI with a premixed hydrogen supply. The experiment was carried out under various engine speed and fraction rates of hydrogen. As a result, the increase of fraction rates of hydrogen retard the DME ignition timing and eliminated the knocking during high engine speed condition. IMEP was increased with increase of fraction rates of hydrogen by 30%. 40% of the fraction rates of hydrogen resulted in misfiring. The $NO_x$ emission was reduced by increasing the fraction rates of hydrogen, but HC emission was increased.
A novel design process of a parallel multi-flow type air-cooled condenser of a dual-loop waste heat recovery system with Rankine steam cycles for improving the fuel efficiency of gasoline automobiles has been investigated focusing on reduction of the pressure drop inside the micro-tubes. The low temperature condenser plays a role to dissipate heat from the system by condensing the low temperature loop working fluid sufficiently. However, the refrigerant has low evaporation temperature enough to recover the waste from engine coolant of about $100^{\circ}C$ but has small saturation enthalpy so that excessive mass flow rate of the LT working fluid, e.g., over 150 g/s, causes enormously large pressure drop of the working fluid to maintain the heat dissipation performance of more than 20 kW. This paper has dealt with the scheme to design the low temperature condenser that has reduced pressure drop while ensuring the required thermal performance. The number of pass, the arrangement of the tubes of each pass, and the positions of the inlet and outlet ports on the header are most critical parameters affecting the flow uniformity through all the tubes of the condenser. For the purpose of the performance predictions and the parametric study for the LT condenser, we have developed a 1-dimensional user-friendly performance prediction program that calculates feasibly the phase change of the working fluid in the tubes. An example is presented through the proposed design process and compared with an experiment.
