Global construction projects manifest more risks than do other industries. Often, firms doing business in construction markets find these risks intimidating. To secure corresponding profits, many global contractors attempt to forecast the effects of risks and establish risk management strategies. However, one key problem with present-day risk management methods is that they are basically analytical or mathematical-oriented approaches which are not easy to adopt in real business. Based on preliminary investigations and evaluations of current tools, this research elicits more practical algorithms for risk checklist by constructing risk scenarios over the whole period of project execution. For the application of the algorithms, a "SE/RF" (Source-Event/Regular-Floating) checklist is suggested, which sorts out risk sources and their subsequent events, as well as dividing various risk factors into either regular or floating categories. In addition, the "PIS" (Probability-Impact-Significance) method is introduced, in place of traditional "PI" (Probability-Impact) methods, by adding the additional criterion of "risk significance" to determine the degree of risk exposure in a more realistic way. As a result, we draw the significant finding that the "PIS" method presents a closer evaluation regarding degree of risk exposure as compared to the level of expert judgments than those from traditional methods. Finally, we provide an integrated procedure for international project risk management with all of the research achievements being incorporated.
Although periodic health examination has been one of the most common practices of preventive medicine, its effect on modification of risk behavior has been seldom assessed. Thus, this study attempted to demonstrate the influence of a health examination on modification of cardiovascular disease related health risk behaviors such as smoking, physical inactivity, and obesity. Data of 893 adults were derived from two types of a popular and highly acclaimed health examination program. With a conceptual model constructed using Persuasive Communication variables, McNemar tests examined Source-Outcome association, hypothesizing that different health examination programs would yield different levels of behavior change in smoking, physical inactivity, and obesity. No significant behavior change was found in any of the two health examination programs. Instead, previously established Receiver-Outcome relationship was reconfirmed by logistic regression modeling where gender was the most prominent predictor of all three behaviors. Men were more likely to be current smokers (OR=0.029), exercisers (OR=2.629), and obese (OR=0.237). The importance of followups after health examination is highly stressed as well as that of gender-specific health education strategies. This study recommends applying the social-ecological approaches in health examination, which emphasizes the support and collaboration at individual, family, organizations, community, and policy level to improve health. Long term and qualitative evaluation of health examination may provide more foundation for increasing the effectiveness of health education and communication in health examinations.
Purpose: The current research based on the comprehensive literature evaluation aims to gain insight into the factors contributing to an Oriental art gallery's success and the strategies used to advertise and sell these works effectively. Understanding and experience in Oriental art are essential for finding solutions to these issues. Research design, data and methodology: The current research conducted the following stages to conduct a thorough literature analysis on the issues that plague Oriental art gallery practitioners and the methods used to increase sales of this kind of art: Finding Valuable Resources and Subjects, Screening and Selection of Articles, Data Extraction and Analysis, Synthesis of Findings. Results: After reviewing the many aspects that affect the success of a gallery specializing in Oriental art, there were four key approaches that have emerged for boosting sales of this kind of artwork. Based on the findings, these approaches are grounded in four areas: consumer preferences; marketing methods; pricing strategies; and art investments. Conclusions: All in all, the current study finally indicates that practitioners should consider cultural background, age, gender, income, and level of education when developing marketing strategies and selecting artwork to exhibit. Target marketing is an effective method for attracting and retaining customers.

Software testing is an important phase as it ensures the software quality. The software testing process comprises of three steps: generation, execution, and evaluation of test cases. Literature claims the usage of single and multiple 'Unified Modeling Language' (UML) diagrams to generate test cases. Using multiple UML diagrams increases test case coverage. However, the existing approaches show limitations in test case generation from UML diagrams. Therefore, in this research study, we propose an approach to generate the test cases using UML State Chart Diagram (SCD), Activity Diagram (AD), and Sequence Diagram (SD). The proposed approach transforms UML diagrams into intermediate forms: SCD Graph, AD Graph, and SD Graph respectively. Furthermore, by integrating these three graphs, a System Testing Graph (STG) is formed. Finally, test cases are identified from STG by using a traversal algorithm such as Depth First Search (DFS) that is an optimization method. The results show that the proposed approach is better compared to existing approaches in terms of coverage and performance. Moreover, the generated test cases have the ability to detect faults at the unit level, integration, and system level testing.
During earthquakes, regular buildings perform better than irregular buildings. In general, seismic design codes define a regular building using estimates of Storey Stiffness and Storey Strength. At present, seismic design codes do not recommend a specific method to estimate these parameters. Consequently, any method described in the literature can be applied to estimate the aforementioned parameters. Nevertheless, research has demonstrated that storey stiffness and storey strength vary depending on the estimation method employed. As a result, the same building can be regular or irregular, depending on the method employed to estimate storey stiffness and storey strength. Hence, there is a need to identify the best method to estimate storey stiffness and storey strength. For this purpose, the study presents a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of nine approaches used to determine storey stiffness. Similarly, the study compares six approaches for estimating storey strength. Subsequently, the study identifies the best method to estimate storey stiffness and storey strength using results of 350 linear time history analyses and 245 nonlinear time history analyses, respectively. Based on the comparison, it is concluded that the Fundamental Lateral Translational Mode Shape Method and Isolated Storey Method - A Particular Case are the best methods to estimate storey stiffness and storey strength of low-to-mid rise buildings, respectively.

The maintenance of semiconductor equipment is crucial for the continuous growth of the semiconductor market. System management is imperative given the anticipated increase in the capacity and complexity of industrial equipment. Ensuring optimal operation of manufacturing processes is essential to maintaining a steady supply of numerous parts. Particularly, monitoring the status of substrate transfer robots, which play a central role in these processes, is crucial. Diagnosing failures of their major components is vital for preventive maintenance. Fault diagnosis methods can be broadly categorized into physics-based and data-driven approaches. This study focuses on data-driven fault diagnosis methods due to the limitations of physics-based approaches. We propose a methodology for data acquisition and preprocessing for robot fault diagnosis. Data is gathered from vibration sensors, and the data preprocessing method is applied to the vibration signals. Subsequently, the dataset is trained using Gradient Tree-based XGBoost machine learning classification algorithms. The effectiveness of the proposed model is validated through performance evaluation metrics, including accuracy, F1 score, and confusion matrix. The XGBoost classifiers achieve an accuracy of approximately 92.76% and an equivalent F1 score. ROC curves indicate exceptional performance in class discrimination, with 100% discrimination for the normal class and 98% discrimination for abnormal classes.

The interest in the evaluation of government-sponsored research institutes (GRIs) has increased markedly in Korea in 1990s; this is mainly because of the increasing needs 1) to improve the quality of R&D at GRIs, and 2) to reorient the GRIs' strategic position in Korean national innovation systems due to the enhancement of R&D capabilities of private companies and universities during last decade. As a first attempt to diagnose the managerial and strategic issues of GRIs, a Multi-Ministerial Evaluation Committee was established as an ad hoc task force under the Prime Minister's Office in 1991. According to the recommendations of the committee, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) to which most of GRIs were affiliated, made it a rule to evaluate the annual performance of GRIs since 1992. This paper examines the recent experience of MOST's evaluation of Government-sponsored Research Institute in Korea. After several years'efforts of Science & Technology Policy Institute(STEPI) to build prospective evaluation systenL MOST decided to apply two supplementary approaches for the evaluation of GRIs; one is summative annual evaluation and the other is formative 3-year evaluation. The annual evaluation system that is designed as a temporary measure is to monitor and to guide the self-evaluation activities of GRIs. In the process of annual evaluation, MOST tries to minimize its direct involvement, and allows each GRI to develop self-evaluation system that is most appropriate for the unique characteristics of the institute. If there exist urgent issues under scrutiny, however, it can be incorporated and examined by a group of external experts as special issues in the annual evaluation system. The aim of 3-year evaluation is both to examine the past performance of each GRI and to investigate whether the strategic role of each GRI is viable in the future. Its major focus, however, lies not on auditing past performance but on strengthening future strategic position of each GRI. The MOST designates a group of evaluation experts with appropriate knowledge and competence as members of the General Evaluation Committee for one year. With the help of STEPI, a specialized research institute for R&D evaluation, the General Evaluation Committee develops methodology and procedures for the actual evaluation of GRIs. Based on the evaluation reports and recommendations from the General Evaluation Committee, the MOST develops various policy measures for strengthening GRIs.

The impact evaluation of a DSM program is a very important issue since the results are used to determine the sustainability of a program. In general. to estimate the impacts of a DSM program it is required to measure the electricity usage changes before and after a program. Since the measurement-based approaches cost highly, most of the conventional evaluations are based on the average figures. However estimation of the average-based impacts can lead to both distorted results of over/under estimation of kW and kWh savings and non-optimal DSM planning. In this paper, we have developed a new multi-point measurement approach which can evaluate kW and kWh savings of a DSM program more exactly. To do this, the saving rate and operating rate are defined and set as the function of load factor of a customer, and these rates are incorporated with the conventional diffusion function of Bass to project the future impacts of a DSM program. The case study is performed on the inverter program of Korea by using the suggested approach.
Web caching server is one of the important components of any web site, as it makes the access of users to web content much faster while balancing the network and server load. There are many caching approaches proposed in order to solve this problem. Classically, we know several caching algorithms like FIFO, LRU, LRU-min and etc. Most of them have their advantages and disadvantages based on specific context. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the new concept of caching objects along with their related content and test the performance of the proposed caching method using CPN Tools simulator program. It is generally known that the use of Colored Petri Nets(CPNs) for modeling the simulation of new idea is one of the popular methods of system evaluation throughout software development projects. Moreover it could be very handy in describing the overall logic of the system. The CPN Tools is one of the most robust simulator programs which supports all necessary tools and functions to build and run the simulation model for CPN. Therefore in this paper, we will use CPN Tools software in order to build a simulator for our innovative caching approach named as web caching with related content. Then we will analyze the results derived from the simulation of our model and will make corresponding conclusions.
Various efforts have been initiated to reduce the energy consumption of the compressor as it is one of the approaches to saving a large portion of the fixed cost of the production site. Various results of reducing the energy consumption of the compressor have been reported, but to reduce the energy consumption of the compressors fundamentally, regular management of the compressor should ensure optimum operation. This requires periodic on-site visits by experts, but is often overlooked as a cost issue, resulting in the use of the compressor in low-efficiency conditions. Thus, it is necessary to develop a low-cost evaluation technology for compressor condition monitoring and efficiency analysis to ensure that the compressor is always driven at the optimum efficiency without imposing undue burden on the compressor user. In this study, a sensor was installed at the inlet, outlet, and power supply of the compressor, and a method for evaluating the energy consumption of the compressor using the minimum sensor was derived. The experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed method. It was confirmed that the energy consumption of the compressor can be easily as well as efficiently evaluated by using the method developed in this study.
