  • Noise map is becoming an increasingly important tool supporting noise policy. In order to main am a quiet environment of urban areas, noise map was developed by using GIS technique which combines geographic and noise informations with a database management system. By evaluating various methods of the spatial anal: sis, it was concluded that the inverse distance weighted method gave the best results and was applied to develope the noise maps of road noise.

  • Electrical discharge machining uses thermal energy from electrical discharge, while wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) technology is widely used in conductive material machining. This paper proposes a method for evaluating the characteristics of wires in WEDM. In order to evaluate the wire processing performance, processing speed and roughness, straightness, corner processing have been assessed with precision experiment equipment and image processing including Laplacian filtering with various threshold levels.

  • Since Romberg's test in 1953, the analysis of postural sway during upright stance has been widely used as a tool for evaluating balance and disorders of the postural control system. This review describes the methods that have been used to evaluste the static and dynamic performance of the postural control system. Various identification methods of postural control system based on standing balance are discussed and measures of postural sway are described. The application areas of standign balance research, with an emphasis on postural control evaluations, are also briefly described. This review can be used to gain an understanding of the dynamics of human standing balance.

  • This study was done to compare thresholds between those of Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) with clicks or tonebursts and Multiple Auditory Steady-State Response (MASTER). The results would give a promising tool for evaluating frequency-specific hearing sensitivity in infants or young children. The correlation coefficient value between the click ABR thresholds and MASTER thresholds at carrier frequencies, 500, 1,000, 2,000 Hz, and 4,000 Hz was obtained at Pearson 0.91, 0.94, 0.93, and 0.91.

  • When people choose one way of action from various alternatives, they make value judgement. Due to limited capacity of human information processing, however, a decision maker cannot reflect his true subjective utility in evaluating alternatives especially for a problem which has multiattribute. The analytic hierachy model is a tool which converts scores derived from pairwise comparison with respect to each attribute to overall scores of the alternatives. Then the overall scores are utilized to choose an alternative. Therefore this model can be used to support people's value judgement.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the reliability of DEA for the measurement of efficiency of Commercial banks in Korea using the DEA methods. DEA is basically a mathematical programing technique initially developed by Chanes, Cooper and Rhodes(197n) to evaluate the relative efficiency of not-for-profit organizations where multiple outputs are produced with multiple inputs. This study show that DEA approach is not only usefulness in evaluating performance of banks but also a useful bank management tool.

  • Ultrasonography is currently being developed as a tool for evaluating peripheral neuropathy. It is one of the painless and least-invasive methods of medical diagnostic testing that yields anatomic views of the nerves and their surrounding structures. Here I first describe the equipment settings and technique for nerve ultrasound along with typical sonographic findings for normal nerves. I then address frequently used parameters for nerve measurements that facilitate diagnoses of focal and generalized neuropathies.

  • The current study was conducted to facilitate appropriate hygiene and safety management in children's food service stations, with the ultimate objective of providing sanitary and safe food service to children. In order to develop questionnaire items, literature review was conducted, in addition to detailed interview of working-level personnel at a children's food service management support center. This resulted in a total of thirty questions on personal hygiene management, food materials hygiene management, and facilities hygiene management. Using the questionnaire, seventy-one food service stations for children in District A in Seoul that serve less than one hundred children were surveyed to analyze the reliability, construct validity, and correlation in the developed measurement tool. The developed measurement tool consisted of ten task and environmental hygiene management questions, five personal and cooking hygiene management questions, four food ingredient and storage hygiene management questions, and four food service operation and management question; with a total of twenty-three questions, in four factors stated above. The cumulative distribution of the four factors was 54.698%, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ value was 0.672~0.853, which indicated that the study was reliable. The results of the analysis indicated that each of the factors were correlated, the study was satisfactory, and the tool was valid for evaluating hygiene and safety management practices in children's food service stations. Finally, in order to enhance practical utility of the developed measurement tool, the significance and limitations were described.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a mathematics self-efficacy test tool for elementary school students based on the sub-factors of mathematical self-efficacy derived from current studies. In this study, I verified the validity and reliability of the test tool by statistically evaluating the results of applying the test tool to the 3rd-6th grade students. In this study, Principal Component Analysis was performed on the tool for measuring the self efficacy of mathematics for elementary school students. For the validity test, the mathematics anxiety status of the participants was measured. The mathematics anxiety who were known to have a negative correlation with the mathematical self efficacy. The mathematics self efficacy tool developed in this study consists of 16 items with three subcategories: master experience, social persuasions, and emotional and physiological state. The mathematical self efficacy test tool developed in this study is expected to provide grounds for diagnosing the mathematics self-efficacy status of elementary school students and looking for ways to improve it.

  • Reservoirs play a key role in the carbon cycle between terrestrial and marine systems and are pathways that release greenhouse gases(GHGs), CO2, CH4, and N2O, into the atmosphere by decomposing organic matters. Developed countries have been actively conducting research on carbon emission assessment of dam reservoirs for over 10 years under the leadership of UNESCO/IHA, but associated research is very rare in Korea. In particular, the GHGs footprint evaluation, which calculates the change in net carbon emission considering the watershed environment between pre- and post- impoundment, is very important in evaluating the carbon emission of hydroelectric dams. The objective of this study was to estimate the GHG emissions and footprints in Daecheong Reservoir using the G-res Tool, an online platform developed by UNESCO/IHA. The G-res Tool estimates CO2 and CH4 emissions in consideration of diverse pathway fluxes of GHGs from the reservoir and characterizes changes in GHG fluxes over 100 years based on the expected lifetime of the dam. The input required to use the G-res Tool include data related to watersheds, reservoirs, and dams, and most were collected through the government's public portal. As a result of the study, the GHG footprint of Daecheong Reservoir was estimated to be 93 gCO2eq/m2/yr, which is similar to that of other reservoirs around the world in the same climate zone. After impoundment, the CH4 diffusion emission from the reservoir was 73 gCO2eq/m2/yr, also similar to those of the overseas reservoirs, but the CH4 bubbling emission, degassing emission, and CO2 diffusion emissions were 44, 34, 252 gCO2eq/m2/yr, respectively, showing a rather high tendency. Since the dam reservoir carbon footprint evaluation is essential for the Clean Development Mechanism evaluation of hydroelectric power generation, continuous research is needed in the future. In particular, experimental studies that can replace the emission factors obtained from the overseas dam reservoirs currently used in the G-res Tool should be promoted.
