  • The facilities of domestic elderly people are getting higher in the facility due to the rapid increase of the elderly population. Elderly people ability to evacuate the facility such as cognition and walking ability is very low. Therefore, it is necessary to secure the safety of evacuation in case of fire, but the evacuation safety measures in case of domestic fire accidents are insufficient. This study is to identify the problems of the safety of evacuation through the fire case analysis and to propose the measures against it.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the safety of evacuation using the Pathfinder program for the alert at once, the priority alarm method, the priority alarm method for the four floors above, and the sequential priority alarm method, which is a modification of the priority alarm method specified in the tourist hotel building. Currently, in Korea's National Fire Safety Codes (NFSC), fire alarm methods are compulsorily applied differently depending on the number of floors and total floor area of a building. Although the growth rate is getting faster due to the diversification of building structures, it is still an obstacle to improving evacuation safety to comply with the standardized fire alarm method in NFSC. As a result of the experiment, the evacuation time was found to be faster with the priority alarm method for the four floors above than the priority alarm method applied to the specific firefighting object. Compared to the priority alarm method applied to the tourist hotel, which is a specific firefighting target with 5 or more floors and a total floor area of more than 3,000m2, the time was shortened by 3.7 seconds when measured by applying the priority alarm method for the four floors directly above. This indicates that it is necessary to take measures to select a fire alarm method suitable for the structure and environmental conditions of the building rather than applying the uniform NFSC regulations.

  • For buildings where a large number of the evacuees who are restricted to evacuation behavior compared to normal people, evacuation safety zones should be secured against fire. In order to form a safe haven safety zone, we are going to predict the performance of the building and describe the plan to secure a safe haven zone accordingly.

  • The public relations room of the waste disposal facility is a space that can be visited by a large number of unevaluated personnel. Therefore, it is essential to design against fire, and research on fire and evacuation is essential. In this study, in order to evaluate the safety of the occupants in the event of fire and evacuation based on the life safety standards of occupants, the increase in risk due to heat, visible distance, and toxic gases on a plane 1.8m from the floor, which is the limit of breathing of the evacuee, over time. It was analyzed by location. As a result, the RSET of the P-01 exit was 93.0 seconds and the ASET was 272.6 seconds, the RSET of the P-02 exit was 45.8 seconds, the ASET was 147.7 seconds, the RSET of the P-03 exit was 106 seconds, and the ASET was 182.9 seconds.

  • The elderly population in Korea is constantly increasing. As the number of Long-Term Care hospitals increases, many fires have occurred in related facilities. In this facilities, due to the characteristics of the occupants, self-evacuation is difficult, resulting in a number of casualties. It is necessary to Life safety design that reflects the characteristics of the occupants of domestic long-term hospitals. The study attempted to suggest improvements to the standards of evacuation behavior model for occupants of domestic and overseas long-term care hospitals. As a result of the study, patients living in long-term hospitals have a problem that is difficult to evacuate on their own. It is judged that there is a need to present an evacuation behavior model database by setting evacuation priorities and evacuation plans. In addition, it is necessary to more the design factors that affect the evacuation model as well as the characteristics of the occupants of the long-term care hospital.

  • As there are the elderly who have difficulty in evacuating themselves, it is necessary to develop architectural and institutional planning for nursing homes that can minimize disaster damage. The purpose of this study was to suggest the improvement plan by grasping the current status of nursing homes on planning aspects such as floor plan type, spatial layout, and evacuation route through 14 case studies in Cheongju city in terms of disaster safety. The results of this study were as follows; the most common plan type was the grouped-corridor type difficulty in securing evacuation routes. The circulation corridor type is need to be considered because it is possible not only to secure evacuation and nursing routes, but also to create a hanging around corridor for the elderly with dementia. Second, if there is a risk of flooding due to the location, the living room should be placed on the 2nd floor or more. In particular, a kitchen should be placed not adjacent to the entrance and the vertical evacuation route. Third, the horizontal evacuation route should be arranged differently depending on the floor plan type. For vertical evacuation routes, it is necessary to install outdoor stairs or ramps considering the evacuation characteristics of the elderly. In addition, the institutional aspects should be considered to ensure the safety of disasters.

  • For life safety design of shopping mall, we selected a shopping mall, and calculated the evacuation time of means of egress. It is calculated by two kind of evacuation method. One is the computer simulation model, EXODUS. The other is Japan's method. Study way is a model structure study, selecting real shopping mall and setting scenario, calculating the evacuating time. result of study, evaluation time is very high. Therefore we confirmed that the building of means of egress is not fit to evacuation more the capacity of setting population.

  • This study predicts and compares the evacuation times of a training ship, which is easily influenced by gathering patterns of crews' onboard life style. As the results, the evacuation times of the high density, like meal time, take 1.5 times longer than the low density, like normal time. And it is also evaluated that the evacuation times of high density affected by evacuation speeds show 4 times higher than the low density.

  • Road tunnel lengths are increasing. Some 1,300 tunnels with 1,102 km in length had been increased till 2019 from 2010. There are 64 tunnels over 3,000 m in length, with their total length adding up to 276.7 km. Safety facilities in the event of a tunnel fire are critical so as to prevent large-scale casualties. Standards for installing disaster prevention facilities are being proposed based on the guidelines of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, but they may be limited to deep underground tunnels. This study was undertaken to provide guidelines for the spacing of evacuation connection passages and the widths of evacuation connection doors. Evacuation with various spacing and widths was simulated in regards to evacuation time, which is the measure of safety, using the evacuation analysis simulation software EXODUS Ver.6.3 and the fire/smoke analysis software SMARTFIRE Ver.4.1. Evacuation connection gates with widths of 0.9 m and 1.2 m, and spacings of 150 m to 250 m, were set to every 20 m. In addition, longitudinal slopes of 6 % and 0 % were considered. It was determined to be safe when the evacuation completion time was shorter than the delay diffusion time. According to the simulation results, all occupants could complete evacuation before smoke spread regardless of the width of the evacuation connection door when the longitudinal slope was 6 % and the interval of evacuation connection passage was 150 m. When the evacuation connection passage spacing was 200 m and the evacuation connection gate width was 1.2 m, all occupants could evacuate when the longitudinal slope was 0 %. Due to difference in evacuation speed according to the longitudinal slope, the evacuation time with a 6 % slope was 114 seconds shorter (with the 190 m connection passage) than with a 0 % slope. A shorter spacing of evacuation connection passages may reduce the evacuation time, but this is difficult to implement in practice because of economic and structural limitations. If the width of the evacuation junction is 1.2 m, occupants could evacuate faster than with a 0.9 m width. When the width of a connection door is 1.2 m with appropriate connection passage spacing, it might provide a means to increase economic efficiency and resolve structural limitations while securing evacuation safety.
