  • The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of occupant's path selection on the shape of the pictogram and the opening/closing of the door. This study was carried out through a simulation experiment using computer virtual reality. Exit light pictogram for exit door and exit light pictogram for passage were arranged for each scenario in type T corridor and type + corridor. The computer graphic was used to carry out the simulation. In addition, we analyzed the response of human behavior according to the two directions (left and right) of exit light pictogram for exit door and the effect of opening direction of doorway. In addition, the change of decision-making according to the presence or absence of exit light pictogram for passage was confirmed. The results of the direction selection response were as follows. First, in the case of the T-shaped corridor, if the exit light was not installed on the door, it was influenced by the opening direction of the door. Second, when the exit light is attached to the door, the selectivity in the direction that matches the exit light pictogram direction is high. As a result, it was confirmed that the pictogram direction of the exit light influenced the evacuation route selection of the occupants.

  • In this study, it was analyzed by a numerical analysis that plan/design considerations for ensuring the spectator safety of large arena audiences in a fire emergency evacuation plan. The latest issue, the 'performance-based design', fire and evacuation plan is important. But nowadays 'Specification-based design' is in common. In evacuation simulation, congestion of exit and aisle is ignored because only evacuation time of large-space is mainly analyzed. In smoke flow,'smoke filling effect' tends to be overrated. From now on, when design a field house, it is needed not 'smoke filling effect' and 'large-space evacuation' analysis, but analyzing 'whole building evacuation time' for ensuring fire evacuation safety of spectator.

  • In this study, compare and analyze for high-rise evacuation safety design criteria improvement about internal high-rise building egress safety rule. To the result, high-rise evacuation safety design criteria improvement data can be summarized as follows. First, should compute the evacuation capacity about the number of persons and when more than 2 exits are requested, over 50% of evacuation capacity must be satisfied even approaching to 1 exit is unable. Second, 2 ways of evacuation can be made smoothly by the stair or exit separation-distance standard regulation. Third, regulate the length limitation of dead-end corridor or passageway and it should give grades in limitation of whether the spring-cooler has been installed. Fourth, must secure the evacuation way and do the evacuee guidance when it's safety area and elevator or stair. Also needs to provide extra safety area to secure horizontal direction Escape Safety except fire escaping floor.

  • This study analyzed the safety of evacuation according to the number of exits and the direction of evacuation routes with evacuation simulations of the Pathfinder in case of a fire at a highway service area. It was also analyzed of the difference in RSET by comparing the single or double types of the exit of a facility. The results were as follows. When only one direction exit was opened, all of the RSET were exceeded. When two or more different directions were opened according to the general principle of evacuation, all results met the RSET. The simulations showed that two or more different directions were more shortened in RSET than the one same direction. The result of the types of doors showed that the single type door was shortened in RSET rather than the double type doors. For the evacuation safety in a fire at the highway service areas, firstly, it is necessary to secure two or more exits in a fire at all times. Secondly, the exits should not be same directions. Finally, it is suggested that the exit should be installed with a single type of door.

  • With the "Fire Protection Building Plan" of the Building Center of Japan as a sample, actual evacuation plans used for large scaled and multi-storied buildings are analyzed. Sufficient number of samples were classified into 6 categories. For room evacuation, time to pass through the exit was the most critical point for larger spaces and movement time in the room was the key for smaller evacuation object zone and less number of evacuees. Seen from the location of fire breakout point, it was witnessed that the numbers of crowding at the exits of the fire escape staircase are serious for floor level evacuation. For vertical traffic line, it was actually proved that time to fire escaping floor is problem of higher buildings. It was also proved that special evacuation methods are in practical use in many buildings in japan.

  • As modern buildings grow to become diversified, toxic gases and smoke coupled with characteristics of space during a fire increase the risk of large-scaled disaster. It is now urgent to take measures for evacuation and escape directly linked to personal damage. Existing fixed one-way emergency exit light is not enough for efficient evacuation and rescue. Therefore, to ensure quicker escape and evacuation during a fire, two-way radio data system should be devised, which linked with fire detector, helps people in danger to escape quickly and is able to control by a central control system, and the system was found to enhance the efficiency of escape and contribute to safer escape.

  • The floor field model (hereafter referred to as FFM) is a cellular automata (hereafter referred to as CA)-based walk model used to model pedestrian behavior. Existing studies on FFM conducted experiments with simple structures (that have one room or one obstacle in a room) or relatively complicated structures (that have many rooms). In order to apply the FFM to real buildings, it is necessary to have additional methodologies to process information about the number of rooms, floors, stairs, and exit doors. In particular, it is necessary to process exit doors during this procedure. Exit doors that are recognized by pedestrians are of many types such as exit doors in rooms, stairs connected to corridors, and exit doors in a building. When calculating the static floor field (hereafter referred to as SFF) in the FFM, information about exit doors is needed and simulation results will be different depending on how the SFF is calculated using an exit door among the above-mentioned exit doors. In this study, an XML-format building data model is proposed according to data structures required by the FFM. This study also defines a methodology to process a number of exit doors. Accordingly, this study developed a building data construction and evacuation simulator and simulation experiments were conducted with university campus building.

  • Recently, the terror frequently has taken place for unspecified individuals as modern society is complicated. Especially, in case of a subway carriage fire as Daegu subway fire, because smoke spread path usually coincide with passenger's evacuation path, it will reduce visibility and can cause fatalities by asphyxiation. This study performs not only fire simulation with CFAST V6 but also evacuation simulation with EXODUS V4 for the purpose of taking measures for passengers's life safety in subway fire. As a result of evacuation simulation without fire, evacuation times are 36 s for EXODUS V4 and simple hand calculation, and when fire is occurred fire, 101 persons evacuated in 32 s. Therefore, a countermeasure of evacuation in subway carriage fire is required to repression of fire and emergency exit.

  • This paper introduces 'EgresSIM', which is microscopic evacuation simulation software. EgresSIM developed in this paper is a three-dimensional (3D) pedestrian evacuation simulator based on the improved model advanced from the floor field model(FFM), a microscopic pedestrian model. This software can simulate large size buildings that consist of a number of floors, stairs, rooms, and exit doors. Moreover, this software can arrange several hundreds or thousands of pedestrians in indoor space and check their movements through the 3D viewer in real time, as well as produce detailed results about evacuation situations such as which paths are employed by individual pedestrians, how long does it takes to evacuate, and how many evacuees are gathered at each of the exit doors. Building data needed in the simulation are constructed as XML files according to pre-defined indoor data models and information of simulation results is also created as XML log files. A moving pattern of pedestrians can be represented in many ways by adjusting the sensitivity parameters of two walk models supported by EgresSIM. Thus, evacuation simulation can be done based on many assumptions of situations such as movement to the nearest exit door or blackout after outage.
