  • The main purpose of this paper is to apply differential transformation method to vibration analysis of Euler-Bernoulli beam with open cracks on elastic foundation. The governing equation of motion of beam with open cracks on elastic foundation is derived. The concept of differential transformation is briefly introduced. The cracks are modeled by massless substitute spring. The effects of the crack location, size and the foundation constants, on the natural frequencies of the beam, are investigated.

  • In this paper, numerical methods are developed for solving the elastica of simple beams with variable-arc-length subjected to a point loading. The beam model is based on Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. The Runge-Kutta and Regula-Falsi methods, respectively, are used to solve the governing differential equations and to compute the beam's rotation at the left end of the beams. Extensive numerical results of the elastica responses, including deflected shapes, rotations of cross-section and bending moments, are presented in non-dimensional forms. The possible maximum values of the end rotation, deflection and bending moment are determined by analyzing the numerical data obtained in this study.

  • An accurate particle tracking method for a finite difference method model is developed using a constant acceleration method. Being assumed constant temporal and spatial gradients, the new method permits temporal-spatial variability of particle velocity. Test results in a solid rotating flow show that the new method has second-order accuracy. The performance of the new method is compared with that of other methods; the first-order Euler forward method, and the second-order Euler predictor-corrector method. The new method is the most efficient method among the three. It is more accurate and efficient than the other two.

  • This paper deals with a novel method for numerical analyses of the tapered geometrical non-linear beam with three unknown parameters, subjected a floating point load. The beams with hinged-movable end constraint are chosen as the objective beam. Cross sections of the beam whose flexural rigidities are functionally varied with the axial coordinate. The first order simultaneous differential equations governing the elastica of such beam are derived on the basis of the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. A novel numerical method for solving these equations is developed by using the iteration technique. The processes of the solution method are extensively discussed through a typical numerical example. For validating theories developed herein, laboratory scaled experiments are conducted.

  • In this paper, a three-dimensional Euler aeroelastic analysis program is developed with a second-order staggered algorithm to reduce the lagging errors between the fluid and structural solvers. In the unsteady aerodynamic analysis, a dual-time stepping method based on the diagonalized-ADI algorithm is adopted to improve the time accuracy and a parallelized multi-grid method is used to save the computing time. The aeroelastic analyses of AGARD 445.6 wing model have been performed to verify the Euler aeroelastic analysis code. The analysis results are compared with the experimental data and other computational results. The results show comparatively good correlation when they are compared with other references.

  • Change detection algorithms based on frame difference are frequently used for finding moving objects in image sequences. These algorithms detect the change of frames using estimated statistical background model. But, if this estimated background model is different from the actual statistical distribution, false detections are generated. In this paper, we propose an improved change detection algorithm using euler number and structure tensor. The proposed mapping method which is based on the euler number can be used for reducing the false detections that generated by nonparametric change detection algorithm. In this paper, the change in the region of moving object also can be detected by the proposed method using structure tensor. Experimental result shows that the proposed method reduces the false detections effectively by 90% on "Weather", by 34% on "Mother & daughter" and by 43% on "Aisle" than an existing method does.

  • The consistency of the initially designed waves in the domain is essential for accurate calculation of the added resistance in waves through CFD. In particular, unwanted reflected waves at domain boundaries can cause incorrect numerical solutions due to the superposition with initially designed waves. Euler Overlay Method(EOM) is one of the methods for reducing wave reflections by adding an additional source term to momentum and phase conservation equations, respectively. In this study, we apply the Euler Overlay Method(EOM) to the open-source CFD library, OpenFOAM(R), to simulate the accurate free-surface waves in the domain and the parametric study is performed for efficient implementation of Euler Overlay Method(EOM). Considering that the damping efficiency depends on the selection of the overlay parameter in the added source terms, the size of overlay zone and the wave steepness, the influences of these factors are tested through the wave elevation measured at constant time intervals in the 2D numerical wave tank. Through this process, guidelines for selection of optimal overlay parameter and overlay zone size that can be applied according to the scaling law are finally presented.

  • Numerical solutions of the Rosenau-Burgers equation based on the cubic B-spline finite element method are introduced. The backward Euler method is used for discretization in time, and the obtained nonlinear algebraic system is changed to a linear system by the Newton's method. We show that those methods are unconditionally stable. Two test problems are studied to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method. The computational results indicate that numerical solutions are in good agreement with exact solutions.

  • In this study, two beam-column elements based on the Elasto-Fiber element theory for reinforced concrete (RC) element have been developed and compared with each other. The first element is based on Elasto Fiber Approach (EFA) was initially developed for steel structures and this theory was applied for RC element in there and the second element is called as Fiber & Bernoulli-Euler element approach (FBEA). In this element, Cubic Hermitian polynomials are used for obtaining stiffness matrix. The beams or columns element in both approaches are divided into a sub-element called the segment for obtaining element stiffness matrix. The internal freedoms of this segment are dynamically condensed to the external freedoms at the ends of the element by using a dynamic substructure technique. Thus, nonlinear dynamic analysis of high RC building can be obtained within short times. In addition to, external loads of the segment are assumed to be distributed along to element. Therefore, damages can be taken account of along to element and redistributions of the loading for solutions. Bossak-${\alpha}$ integration with predicted-corrected method is used for the nonlinear seismic analysis of RC frames. For numerical application, seismic damage analyses for a 4-story frame and an 8-story RC frame with soft-story are obtained to comparisons of RC element according to both approaches. Damages evaluation and propagation in the frame elements are studied and response quantities from obtained both approaches are investigated in the detail.
