북가주에 있는 삼나무 수종에서 cadinane과 acorane류의 sesquiterpenoids를 chromatography를 사용하여 분리한 후, 화학적인 방법과 분광학적인 방법을 이용하여 분리된 성분의 화학구조를 규명하였다. 그 sesquiterpenoids의 생합성 경로를 정량적인 상관성에 의하여 밝혔다. 또한, 여러 삼나무 수종에 존재하는 sesquiterpenoids의 분류학적 차이에 대하여 논하였다.

Parameterizing a model is one of the most efficient ways of conducting "virtual prototying" i.e. exploring the "What if?" scenario. But it is very difficult to construct parameterized models in commercial based FEM programs, because they usually adopt the mouse inputs in their GUI, which cannot be parameterized. We consolidated a parametric modelling technique in OPERA-3d preprocessor, which is one of world leading electromagnetic analysis programs, by combining the mouse inputs in GUI with it's FORTRAN-based self script command language.

이 연구는 『추악한 미국인』을 포함한 '추악한 시리즈'가 '한국'에서 번역되는 맥락과 의미를 분석하고자 했다. 이를 통해 『The Ugly American』이 동아시아 각국에 번역되고 전유되어 '추악한 시리즈'를 창출하고 그것이 한국에 번역되는 맥락을 파악할 수 있다. 『The Ugly American』(1958)은 윌리암 J. 레더러(Lederer, William J), 유진 버딕크(Burdick, Eugene) 공저의 풍자소설이다. 이 소설은 1959년 한국에 『추악한 미국인』으로 번역되면서 알려지기 시작하는데 베트남전쟁에서 미국인의 실수와 추태를 다룬 작품이다. 이 작품이 중요한 것은 월남전의 미국의 과오를 비판한 수준을 넘어 글쓰기의 아이디어와 방식이 미친 영향력이다. 제목이 함의하듯 이러한 책의 발상은 특정 국가와 그 민족구성원의 문제점을 지적하는 글쓰기 형식이기 때문에 민족(성) 비판과 맥이 닿아 있다. 『The Ugly American』의 수용과 전유는 한국뿐만 아니라 중국, 일본, 대만 등 동아시아 각국의 역사적 관계와 문명의 격차에서 기인하는 자기인식과 상대국에 대한 평가를 파악할 수 있게 한다. 소속 공동체에 대한 자긍심과 (민족)주체의 내적 발전 및 동태적 역동성의 발견 및 재인식 작업으로서의 민족문화론은 개인과 국가의 자기지식과 아이덴티티의 필수불가결한 구축 과정이며 진보와 지체를 둘러싼 일종의 자기반응이다. 이처럼 자신과 세계인식의 재갱신은 서구제국주의의 관점과 적자생존론, 민족주의를 경유해온 우리의 인식론적 성찰의 현실과 긴밀하게 관련된다는 점에서 '추악한' 시리즈는 그 실상과 강박을 접근할 수 있는 중요한 참조점이 될 것이다.

Considerations of partition coefficients, selectivity, biocompatibility, and waste generation are important in selection of appropriate solvents to be used for extractive recovery of products from fermentation broths. Several selection criteria can be used based upon the nature of different species present in the broth. These criteria, along with examples of specific case studies, were presented. These serve not only in screening of useful solvents, but also in pointing to the specific modes of operation of recovery-coupled bioprocesses.

Terrain reconstruction from images is an ill-posed, yet commonly desired Structure from Motion task when compositing visual effects into live-action photography. These surfaces are required for choreography of a scene, casting physically accurate shadows of CG elements, and occlusions. We present a novel framework for generating the geometry of landscapes from extremely noisy point cloud datasets obtained via limited resolution techniques, particularly optical flow based vision algorithms applied to live-action video plates. Our contribution is a new statistical approach to remove erroneous tracks ('outliers') by employing a unique combination of well established techniques-including Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) for robust parameter estimation and Radial Basis Functions (REFs) for scattered data interpolation-to exploit the natural constraints of this problem. Our algorithm offsets the tremendously laborious task of modeling these landscapes by hand, automatically generating a visually consistent, camera position dependent, thin-shell surface mesh within seconds for a typical tracking shot.

A common geoboard puzzel serves as the point of departure for an investigation that lends itself to whole-group discussion with a class of prospective secondary school teachers. Students are provided with opportunities to devise and carry out problem-solving strategies (called 'heuristics' by Polya); exploit inerrelationships among geometry, arithmetic and algebra; formulate generalizations and conjectures; plan and execute an computational project; construct mathematical arguments to establish theorems; and find counter-examples to dispose of a false conjecture. Eugene O'Neill portrays Puritan values of the Mannon family inherited from their family past. Since Puritan values of the Mannons suppress the normal way of life and love, they retain only rigidity, without the charity which is the core element of the teaching of Christianity. With Puritan repression and its dissociation from the vital spring of life, the Puritan Mannons live in a world drained of life and in a world of hypocrisy between outer beauty and inner ugliness. Ironically, they think more of death itself, neglecting to feel the vitality of life. Working as a fate, Puritan values of the Mannon as 'Force Behind' in O'Neill's own term are the cause of suffering and destruction of the Mannons throughout the whole play. The mask-like house and faces are effectively used as a dramatic technique to express the distorted Puritan values.
