Mono-crystalline silicon solar cell is fabricated by using alkali metals. These alkali metal, used in wet etching process, must be removed for the high efficiency solar cell. As wet etching process has been adapted due to its low cost. But lots of alkali metals like potassium remains on the silicon surface and acts as impurities. To remove these alkali metals many of cleaning process have to be applied when solar cell manufacturing process. In terms of alkali metal removal, modified etchant solution is required for concise cleaning process. In this paper ethylenediamine was used and proposed for the substituion of postassium hydroxide.
In this study, ionotropic gelation method was used for the preparation of ibuprofen-loaded calcium alginate (CALG) and ethylenediamine (EDA) treated calcium alginate (EDA-CALG) microspheres. The effect of EDA-treatment on drug entrapment efficiency, particle size, morphology, swelling behavior and in vitro release characteristics of the microspheres was investigated by varying its concentration from 0.5 to 2% (v/v). The reduction in drug entrapment efficiency by a maximum of 44.60% was noted for EDA-CALG microspheres compared to untreated CALG microspheres. The particle size and swelling index of EDA-CALG microspheres were reduced with increasing EDA concentration. All the microspheres were observed to retain their spherical shapes with rough surfaces. EDA-CALG microspheres prepared using 1% and 2% v/v EDA, released almost all of its content within 7 h in pH 6.8 phosphate buffer, however, CALG microspheres were found to release the same within 3 h. The intensity of melting endothermic peak of ibuprofen reduced significantly at lower drug load as experienced from DSC thermograms. The FT-IR spectrum of pure ibuprofen, ibuprofen-loaded CALG and EDA-CALG microspheres showed the characteristic band of C = O stretching vibration of ibuprofen. Hence, this study revealed that EDA can be employed for the preparation of ibuprofen-loaded CALG microspheres to retard the drug release to some extent.
Adsorption experiment of carbon dioxide was performed on MCM41 silica with a 30 wt.% EDA(ethylenediamine) loading at different $CO_2$ inlet concentration and various adsorption temperature. The surface characteristics of $CO_2$ capturing agent were carried out using BET analysis, X-ray diffraction and FT-IR. The results of BET showed 781 $m^2/g$ for MCM41 and 464 $m^2/g$ for EDA/MCM41. X-ray diffraction results reveled typical hexagonal pore system. The higher sorption capacity of EDA/MCM41 was about 80 $mg_{CO2}/g_{sorbent}$ with 50% $CO_2$ inlet concentration and 303 K adsorption temperature. The isosteric heat of adsorption in 303-353 K ranged from -25.47 to -28.24 KJ/mole for EDA/MCM41, which indicates $CO_2$-EDA/MCM41 interaction with exothermic adsorption process. Finally, the performance of EDA/MCM41 in 10 consecutive sorption-desorption runs was a stable with only a minor drop in its sorption capacity.
Many researchers studied cell culturing on surfaces with chemical functional groups. Previously, we reported surface properties of plasma polymerized ethylenediamine (PPEDA) films deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition with various plasma conditions. Surface properties of PPEDA films can be controlled by plasma power during deposition. In this work, to analyze correlation of cell adherence/proliferation with surface property, we cultured rat intestinal epithelial cells-18 on the PPEDA films deposited with various plasma powers. It was shown that as plasma power was decreased, density of cells cultured on the PPEDA film surface was increased. Our findings indicate that plasma power changed the amine density of the PPEDA film surface, resulting in density change of cells cultured on the PPEDA film surface.
A new 1D oxalato bridged compound Ni(en)(ox)-2$H_2$O, (ox = oxalate; en = ethylenediamine) has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectrum, TG analysis, and magnetic measurements. In the structure the Ni atoms are coordinated with four oxygen atoms in two oxalate ions and two nitrogen atoms in one ethylenediamine molecule. The oxalate anion acts as a bis-bidentate ligand bridging Ni atoms in cis-configuration. This completes the infinite zigzag neutral chain, [Ni(en)(ox)]. The interchain space is filled by water molecules that link the chains through a network of hydrogen bonds. Thermal variance of the magnetic susceptibility shows a broad maximum around 50 K characteristic of one-dimensional antiferromagnetic coupling. The theoretical fit of the data for T > 20 K led to the nearest neighbor spin interaction J = -43 K and g = 2.25. The rapid decrease in susceptibility below 20 K indicate this compound to be a likely Haldane gap candidate material with S = 1.
The solubility of N,N'-Bis(salicylidene) ethylenediamine (n-salen) and N,N'-bis(3,5-di-tert-butylsalicylidene) ethylenediamine (t-butyl-salen) was studied with in-situ UV-VIS spectrometer. n-Salen is 3-5 times more soluble than t-butyl-salen in liquid or supercritical $CO_2$. This behavior may be attributed to Lewis acid-base interaction between salen and $CO_2$. The chelation of salen with $Co^{++}$ ion in supercritical condition was confirmed to be fast enough above room temperature. However, the metal ion extraction capability of t-butyl salen is relatively poor because of its low solubility and ionic nature of complex.
An attempt was made to develop new water-soluble antitumor Pt(ll) complexes containing ethylenediamine, and their structures were determined by infrared spectroscopy, $^{13}C$ nuclear magnetic resonance and elemental analysis. Their antitumor activities in vitro against L-1210, p-388 leukemia cells and M-14 melanoma cells were investigated and acceptable antitumor activity was found as compared with cisplatin.
The rate of decomposition of calcium thioglycollate in aqueous solution was shown to increase with increasing temperature and with diluting concentration of calcium thioglycollate. The effect of additive on oxidation rate of calcium thioglycollate was studied to prepare the more stable depilatory formula using additives, such as thiourea, mannitol, sodium thiocyanide, nicotinamide, triethanolamine and ethylenediamine. In all cases, the rate of oxidation was reduced when the additive was present in the solution, among them triethanolamine and ethylenediamine inhibited the decomposition rate remarkably. It is assumed that the decomposition reaction in aqueous solution is pseudo-first order reaction.
Several Pt(II) and Pt(IV) complexes of N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine(2-HEen) and N,N'-bis(2-chloroethyl) ethylenediamine(2-CEen) as carrier ligand were prepared. Water soluble Pt complexes were also synthesized by modification of leaving groups. The cytotoxicity of these compounds against leukemia L1210 and P388 cell in vitro were examined. The Pt complexes containing 2-CEen showed more effective cytotoxicity than those containing 2-HEen. Through the nephrotoxicity tests on the primary cultured proximal tubular cells of rabbit kidney and human kidney cells in vitro, Pt complexes with 2-CEen showed higher than those with 2-HEen which were consistent with cytotoxicity but showed very low nephrotoxicity compared with cisplatin. Also the values of BUN and creatinine in serum of Pt complexes were reduced remarkably compared with cisplatin, therefore it can be concluded that new Pt complexes seems to have much lower nephrotoxicity than cisplatin.
N-Arylation of indole with aryl iodides has been achieved by employing copper nitrate or copper cabonate as a catalyst, which might be more practical and economical over any other copper- or palladium-based catalysts for industrial applications. N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine was found to be the most effective with copper nitrate catalyst systems, while ethylenediamine was the most active with copper carbonate.
