Poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) Nanocomposites Filled with Fumed Silicas by Melt Compounding

  • PET nanocomposites filled with fumed silicas were prepared via direct melt compounding method at various mixing conditions such as filler type and filler content. Some fumed silicas were pre-treated to improve the wettability and dispersibility, and principal characterizations were performed to investigate the effects of nano fumed silicas on polymer matrix. Hydrophobic fumed silica (M-FS), which has the similar contact angles of water with neat PET, acted as the best reinforcement for the thermal stability and mechanical properties of PET nanocomposite, and FE-SEM images also showed that M-FS was uniformly dispersed into matrix and had good wettability. But, some filler (O-FS) had low dispersibility and caused the deterioration of mechanical properties. Besides, the results of DSC revealed the nucleation effect of all fillers in polymer matrix, and PET nanocomposite filled with hydroptilic fumed silica (FS) showed markedly the characteristic dynamic rheological properties such as shear thinning behavior at very low frequencies and the decrease of viscosity.

The Effect of Molecular Weight and the Linear Velocity of Drum Surface on the Properties of Electrospun Poly(ethylene terephthalate) Nonwovens

  • In this study, we evaluated the effect of the molecular weight of the polymer on electrospun poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) nonwovens, and their mechanical properties as a function of the linear velocity of drum surface. Polymer solutions and electrospun PET nonwovens were characterized by means of viscometer, tensiometer, scanning electron microscope(SEM), wide angle X-ray diffraction measurement (WAXD) and universal testing machine (UTM). By keeping the uniform solution viscosity, regardless of molecular weight differences, electrospun PET nonwovens with similar average diameter could be obtained. In addition, the mechanical properties of the electrospun PET nonwovens were strongly dependent on the linear velocity of drum surface. From the results of the WAXD scan, it was found that the polymer took on a particular molecular orientation when the linear velocity of drum surface was increased. The peaks became more definite and apparent, evolving from an amorphous pattern at 0 m/min to peaks and signifying the presence of crystallinity at 45 m/min.

  • 전구체로서 bis(triethoxy silyl) benzene (BTEB), 구조유도체로서 dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (DTMA)를 사용하여 periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMO) 합성하였다. PMO를 XRD, TEM, 그리고 NMR로 확인한 결과 육각 벌집형태의 메조포러스한 물질임을 확인하였다. 합성한 PMO에 polyethylene oxide (PEO)를 삽입하여, DSC와 XRD로 확인한 결과 고분자가 PMO에 삽입되는 과정에서 고분자의 결정성 용융 온도가 감소하다가 결국 사라짐을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과는 고분자 사슬이 PMO의 기공에 삽입되었다는 것이며, 삽입된 고분자 사슬은 PMO의 골격구조에 의하여 제한 받아서 비결정성 형태의 구조를 지니고 있음을 보여주고 있다.

  • Poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET)의 올리고머인 oligo(ethylene terephthalate)(OET), oligo(ethylene succinate-co-terephthalate)(OEST) 및 oligo(butylene succinate-co-terephthalate)(OBST)를 각각 합성한 후, Pseudomonas cepacia 유래의 lipase PS를 사용하여, 올리고머의 분해실험을 실시, 분해시간에 의한 잔존중량 및 분해생성물의 분석에 의한 생분해기구를 해명함을 목적으로 하였다. OEST와 OBST의 합성에서는 배합 몰비에 대한 조성비의 조절이 가능한 올리고머를 얻을 수 있었으며, 조성비의 상이함에 의해 열적 성질이 현저한 차이가 있음을 확인하였다. 분해실험에서는 OEST, OBST 모두 lipase PS에 의해 분해가 발생되나, terephthalic acid의 조성이 높아질수록 분해능력이 저하됨을 확인하였고, lipase PS는 지방족에 가까운 조성을 가진 polyester를 쉽게 분해시킴을 확인하였다.

$PEO-EDA-LiClO_4$ 블렌드계 탄성체 전해질의 제조와 특성 (Preparation and Characterization of Elastomeric Solid Electrolyte Based on $PEO-EDA-LiClO_4$ Blends)

  • Poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)와 epoxy diacrylate(EDA) 및 금속염인 LiClO_4$를 블렌드하고 자외선 가교시킴으로써 이온전도특성을 나타내는 고체 전해질을 제조하고, 제조된 전해질의 이온 전도도를 블렌드조성 염농도 및 온도 변화에 따가 측정하였다. PEO/EDA의 조성비가 70/30 wt%이고 ethylene $oxide/Li^+$의 몰비가 10인 전해질이 $25^{\circ}C$에서 $1.2{\times}10^{-5} S/cm$에 달하는 높은 이온전도도를 나타내었다. 제조된 전해질 필름은 투명하였으며 고무와 같은 탄성을 나타내었다. DSC, XRD 및 편광현미경을 이용한 모폴로지 분석으로부터 에폭시 사슬이 PEO의 결정화를 억제함으로써 완전히 무정형인 블렌드를 제조할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • ABA type block copolymers composed of poly($\gamma-benzyl$ L-glutamate) (PBLG) as the A component and poly (ethylene glycol) as the B component were obtained by polymerization of $\gamma-benzyl$ L-gletamate N -carboxyanhydride, initiated by amino groups at both ends of poly(ethylene glycol) . From circular dichroism measurements in ethylene dichloride solution as well as from infrared spectTa measurements in solid state, it was found that the polypep- tide block exists in the a-helical conformation, as in PBLG homopolymer. $Poly-N^5$ (3-hydroxypropyl glutamine) (PHPG)/poly(ethylene glycol)block copolymer hydrogel was obtained by the treatment of PBLG/PBG block copolymer with the mixture of 3-ammine-1-propanol and diamlnooctane. The water content of PHPG/PEG block copolymer hydrogel was about 80wt% when the concentration of crosslinking agent was below 5 mole % per polymer.

에틸렌글리콜 용액을 이용한 2성분계 Titanate 분말의 합성 (Synthesis of Two-Component Titanate Powders Using Ethylene Glycol Solution)

  • Pure and fine, two-component titanate powders (barium titanate, calcium titanate etc.) were synthesized by an ethylene glycol method. Titanium isopropoxide and other metal ionic salts were dissolved in liquid-type ethylene glycol without any precipitation. In non-aqueous system, the amount of ethylene glycol affected the solubility and homogeneity of metal cation sources in the solution. At the optimum amount of the polymer, the metal ions were dispersed effectively in solution and a homogeneous polymeric network was formed. Most of the synthesized powders had sub-micron or nano-size primary particles after calcination and the agglomerated calcined powders were easily ground by ball milling process. All synthesized titanate powders had stable crystallization behavior at low temperature and high specific surface area after ball milling. The crystallization behavior and the microstructures of the calcined powders were affected on the ethylene glycol content.

  • A new and useful poly(ethylene oxide)-based pH-sensitive block copolymer is introduced. Poly(ethylene oxide-b-N-phenylmaleimide) was first synthesized by anionic polymerization of N-phenylmaleimide (N-PMI) using mixed alkali metal polymeric alkoxide by sequential monomer addition method in the mixture of benzene/THF/DMSO (10/5/3, v/v/v) at room temperature. Reductive deimidation of the resulting block copolymer was performed using hydrazine monohydrate leading to the formation of the corresponding pH-sensitive poly(ethylene oxide-b-maleic acid).

Properties of the Blends of Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate and Ethylene-$\alpha$-Olefins Copolymers

  • The effect of the vinyl acetate (VA) content on the thermal, viscoelastic, rheological, morphological and mechanical behaviors in various blends of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA)/ethylene-$\alpha$-olefin copolymers was investigated using 28, 22 and $15 mol\%$ of VA in EVA. In the DSC melting and crystallization thermograms of all of the EVA systems blended with ethylene-$\alpha$-olefin copolymers, discrete peaks were observed which were related to the constituents. In the dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, the storage modulus increased with increasing content of ethylene-$\alpha$-olefin copolymers. In addition, the transition regions relating to the tan bpeaks varied with the VA content. The crossover point between G' and G" varied depending on the VA contents, and shear-thinning was more prominent in the EVA/EtBC system. In the SEM investigation, a discrete phase morphology was observed in both the EVA/EtBC and EVA/EtOC blends, but the contrast improved with decreasing VA content. However, the tensile strength and modulus improved, but the elongation at break reduced with decreasing VA content, implying that the ethylene-$\alpha$-olefin copolymers play the role of reinforcing materials. Thus, the EVA and ethylene-$\alpha$-olefin components in the copolymers are immiscible in the molten and solid states, but are nevertheless mechanically compatible.
