  • We give a textured front on silicon wafer for high-efficiency solar cells by using micro contact printing method which uses PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) silicon rubber as a stamp and SAM (self assembled monolayer)s as an ink. A random pyramidal texturing have been widely used for a front-surface texturing in low cost manufacturing line although the cell with random pyramids on front surface shows relatively low efficiency than the cell with inverted pyramids patterned by normal optical lithography. In the past two decades, the micro contact printing has been intensively studied in nano technology field for high resolution patterns on silicon wafer. However, this promising printing technique has surprisingly never applied so far to silicon based solar cell industry despite their simplicity of process and attractive aspects in terms of cost competitiveness. We employ a MHA (16-mercaptohexadecanoic acid) as an ink for Au deposited $SiO_2/Si$ substrate. The $SiO_2$ pattern which is same as the pattern printed by SAM ink on Au surface and later acts as a hard resist for anisotropic silicon etching was made by HF solution, and then inverted pyramidal pattern is formed after anisotropic wet etching. We compare three textured surface with different morphology (random texture, random pyramids and inverted pyramids) and then different geometry of inverted pyramid arrays in terms of reflectivity.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the penetration pattern of dentin adhesives according to the orientation of dentinal tubules with confocal laser scanning microscopy. Specimens having perpendicular. parallel and oblique surface to dentinal tubules were fabricated. The primer of dentin adhesives (ALL $BOND^{\circledR}{\;}2,{\;}CLEARFIL^{TM}$ SE BOND and PQ1) was mixed with fluorescent material. rhodamine B isothio-cyanate (Aldrich Cherm. CO., Milw., USA), It was applied to the specimens according to the instructions of manufactures. The specimens were covered with composite resin (Estelite, shade A2) and then cut to a thickness of 500$\mu\textrm{m}$ with low speed saw (Isomet^{TM}, Buehler. USA). The adhesive pattern of dentin adhesives were observed by fluorescence image using confocal laser scanning microscopy. The results were as follows. 1. For the groups with tubules perpendicular to bonded surface. funnel shape of resin tag was observed in all specimen. However. resin tags were more prominent in phosphoric acid etching system (ALL $BOND^{\circledR}$ 2 and PQ1) than self etching system ($CLEARFIL^{TM}$ SE BOND). 2. For the groups with tubules parallel to bonded surface. rhodamine-labeled primer penetrated into peritubular dentin parallel to the orientation of dentinal tubules. But rhodamine-labeled primer of PQ1 diffused more radially into surrounding intertubular dentin than other dentin adhesive systems. 3. For the groups with tubules oblique to bonded surface. resin tags appeared irregular and discontinuous. But they penetrated deeper into dentinal tubules than other groups.

  • Compared to other nano-patterning techniques, Nano imprint Lithography (NIL) has some advantages of high throughput and low process cost. To imprint low temperature and pressure, UV Nano imprint Lithography, which using the monomer based UV curable resin is suggested. Because fabrication of high fidelity pattern on topographical substrate is difficult, bi-layer Nano imprint lithography, which are consist of easily removable under-layer and imprinted pattern, is being used. If residual layer is not remained after imprinting, and under-layer is removed by oxygen RIE etching, we might be able to fabricate the bi-layer pattern for easy lift-off process.

  • Hot embossing lithography(HEL) has the production advantage of comparatively few process step, simple operation, a relatively low cost for embossing tools(Si), and high replication accuracy for small features. In this paper, we considered the nano-molding characteristic according to molding parameters(temperature, pressure, times, etc) and induced a optimal molding condition using HEL. High precision nano-patter master with various shapes were designed and manufactured using the DRIE(Deep Reactive ion Etching), LPCVD(Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition) and thermal oxidation process, and we investigated the molding characteristic of DVD and Blu-ray nickel stamp. We induced flow behaviors of polymer, rheology by shapes and sizes of the pattern through various molding experiments. Finally, with achieving nano-structure molding with high aspect ratio, we will secure a basic technology about the molding of large-area nano-pattern media.

  • Organic solar cells have attracted extensive attention as a promising approach for cost-effective photovoltaic devices. However, organic solar cell has disadvantage of low power conversion efficiency in comparison with other type of solar cell, due to the recombination ratio of hole and electron is too large in the active layer. Thus we have change the surface structure of PEDOT:PSS layers to improve the current density by colloidal lithography method using various-size of polystyrene sphere. The two types of coating method were applied to fabricate the different pattern shape and height, such as spin coating and drop casting. Using the organic solvent, we easily eliminate the PS sphere and could make the varied pattern shapes by controlling the wet etching time. Also we have measured the electrical properties of patterned PEDOT:PSS film to check whether it is suitable for organic photovoltaics.

  • Titanium sheet metal substrates used in thin film batteries were wet etched and their surface area was increased in order to increase the discharge capacity and power density of the batteries. To obtain a homogeneous etching pattern, we used a conventional photolithographic process. Homogeneous hemisphere-shaped wells with a diameter of approximately $40\;{\mu}m$ were formed on the surface of the Ti substrate using a photo-etching process with a $20\;{\mu}m{\times}20\;{\mu}m$ square patterned photo mask. All-solid-state thin film cells composed of a Li/Lithium phosphorous oxynitride (Lipon)/$LiCoO_2$ system were fabricated onto the wet etched substrate using a physical vapor deposition method and their performances were compared with those of the cells on a bare substrate. It was found that the discharge capacity of the cells fabricated on wet etched Ti substrate increased by ca. 25% compared to that of the cell fabricated on bare one. High discharge rate was also able to be obtained through the reduction in the internal resistance. However, the cells fabricated on the wet etched substrate exhibited a higher degradation rate with charge-discharge cycling due to the nonuniform step coverage of the thin films, while the cells on the bare substrate demonstrated a good cycling performance.

  • Several etching phenomena were observed and analyzed in diaphragm process performed on 4-inch (100) Si wafers for sensor application. In case of deep etching to above 300$\mu$m depth, the etch-defects appeared at etched surface could be classified into three categories such as hillocks, reaction products, and white residues. It was known that the hillock had a pyramidal shape or trapizoidal hexahedron structure depending on the density and size of the reaction products. The IR spectra showed that the white residue, which was due to the local over-saturation of Si dissolved in solution, was mostly Si-N-O compounds mixed with a small amount of H and C etc. Also, the difference in both the existence of etch-defects and etch rate distribution over a whole wafer was investigated when the etched surfaces were downward, upward horizontally and erective in etching solutions. The obtained data were analyzed through flow pattern in the etching bath. As the results, the downward and erective postures were favorable in the etch rate uniformity and the etch-defect removal, respectively.

  • The inductively coupled plasma(ICP) etching process was selected to fabricate RF Surface Acoustic Wave(SAW) filters and a Pt thin film was sputtered on a $LiTaO_3$ substrate applied to electrode materials to reduce the spurious response and improve the power durability. Steep sidewall pattern was achieved employing $C_4F_8/Ar/Cl_2$ gas chemistry. We investigated an etching mechanism and parameter dependence of the Pt thin film about $C_4F_8$ addition. Sidewall etch angle was about $80^{\circ}$ at the $C_4F_8$ 20% mixing ratio. Fabricated SAW filter is consists of some series and parallel arm SAW resonators which work as impedance elements and show capacitance characteristics at out of the passband. It can be modified for $800{\sim}900\;MHz$ RF filters. External matching circuits were unnecessary.

  • An automated circuit repair system was developed for enhancing the yield of nondefective liquid crystal panels, focusing on the resist patterns on the circuit material layer of thin-film transistor (TFT) substrates prior to etching. The developed system has an advantage over the parallel conventional system: In the former, the repair conditions depend on the type of resist whereas in the latter, the repair parameters must be fine-tuned for each circuit material. The developed system consists of a resist pattern defect inspection system and a pattern repair system for short and open defects. The repair system performs fine corrections of abnormal areas of the resist pattern. The open-repair system is equipped with a syringe to dispense resist. To maintain a stable resist diameter, a thermal insulator was installed in the syringe system. As a result, the diameter of the dispensed resist became much more stable than when no thermal insulator was used. The resist diameter was kept within the target of $400{\pm}100{\mu}m$. Furthermore, a prototype system was constructed, and using a dummy pattern, it was confirmed that the system worked automatically and correctly.

  • Graphene has been the subject of intense study in recent years owing to its good optoelectronic properties, possibility for stretchable electronics, and so on. Especially, many research groups have studied about graphene nanostructures with various sizes and shapes. Graphene needs to be fabricated into useful devices with controllable electrical properties for its successful device applications. However, this been far from satisfaction owing to a lack of reliable pattern transfer techniques. Photolithography, nanowire etching, and electron beam lithography methods are commonly used for construction of graphene patterns, but those techniques have limitations for getting controllable GNRs. We have developed a novel nanoscale pattern transfer technique based on an electro-hydrodynamic lithography providing highly scalable versatile pattern transfer technique viable for industrial applications. This technique was exploited to fabricate nanoscale patterned graphene structures in a predetermined shape on a substrate. FE-SEM, AFM, and Raman microscopy were used to characterize the patterned graphene structures. This technique may present a very reliable high resolution pattern transfer technique suitable for graphene device applications and can be extended to other inorganic materials.
