  • This paper presents an approach to estimation of learning gain in iterative learning control for discrete-time affine nonlinear systems. In iterative learning control, to determine learning gain satisfying the convergence condition, we have to know the system model. In the proposed method, the input-output equation of a system is identified by neural network refered to as Piecewise Linearly Trained Network (PLTN). Then from the input-output equation, the learning gain in iterative learning law is estimated. The validity of our method is demonstrated by simulations.

  • In this paper, it presents a method to calculate the escape frequency factor$(\nu)$ and its verification from TSC(Thermally Stimulated Current) equation and their simulation curves. To apply calculation method of $\nu$ using asymptotic estimation, it utilized TSC data with 1K interval. This method enables one to get the exact value of $\nu$ and activation energy at the same time by using computer programming. So, it regards their calculation method as a useful process to obtain the value of physical behavior.

  • We propose a borehole test technique to estimate permeability of rocks in borehole. The borehole tests are hydraulic injection tests such as leak-off test and hydraulic fracturing tests, which are originally conducted for stress or casing integrity assessment and not for permeability measurement. We use one-dimensional radial diffusion equation to interpret fluid injection test results in terms of permeability. We apply this technique to a leak-off test conducted at a depth of 700 m in a wellbore, where rock formation is mudstone. The estimated permeability is at an order of $10^{-16}m^2$, which is somewhat high but within the range reported for mudstones previously. Quantitative rick assessment suggests that an accurate measurement of open hole section length is important to improve reliability of results. More data may be needed to ensure the reliability of this technique. If validated, however, this technique can provide cost-effective estimation of in situ permeability without conducting independent permeability tests in borehole.

  • Non-destructive determination of soluble solids(Brix) in harvested fruits using near infrared(hereafter, NIR) spectroscopy has been reported by many researchers. We have just reported on non-destructive estimation of Brix in harvested melons using a NIR Systems Model 6500 spectrophotometer(Ito et al., 2000). There is a melon cultivar that is difficult to judge the harvest time from the external appearance. If we can determine Brix in growing fruits non-destructively in the field, immature fruits will not be harvested. A portable m spectrophotometer for field use has been just developed by Kubota Corporation. The spectral data of growing melons were measured by the portable spectrophotometer. A commercial program was used for multiple linear regression analysis. Brix in growing melons could be estimated by a multiple regression equation calibrated with harvested melons. Absorbances of 906 and 874 nm were included as the independent variables in the multiple regression equation, and these wavelengths are key wavelengths for non-destructive Brix determination.

  • In a one-dimensional heat conduction domain with heated and insulated walls, an integral approach is proposed to estimate time-dependent boundary heat flux without internal measurements. It is assumed that the expression of the heat flux is not known a priori. Hence, the present inverse heat conduction problem is classified as a function estimation problem. The spatial temperature distribution is approximated as a third-order polynomial of position, whose four coefficients are determined from the heat fluxes and the temperatures at both ends at each measurement. After integrating the heat conduction equation over spatial and time domain, respectively, a simple and non-iterative recursive equation to estimate the time-dependent boundary heat flux is derived. Several examples are introduced to show the effectiveness of the present approach.

  • This study describes the estimation of upstream ungauged watershed streamflow using downstream discharge data. For downstream Dongchon (DC) and upstream Kumho (KH) water level stations in Kumho river basin ($2,087.9km^2$), three methods of Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) modeling, drainage-area ratio method and regional regression equation were evaluated. The SWAT was calibrated at DC with the determination coefficient ($R^2$) of 0.70 and validated at KH with $R^2$ of 0.60. The drainage-area ratio method showed $R^2$ of 0.93. For the regional regression, the watershed area, average slope, and stream length were used as variables. Using the derived equation at DC, the KH could estimate the flow with maximum 41.2 % error for the observed streamflow.

  • This paper proposes an estimation method for a circulating current of a Y-${\Delta}$ Transformer. The delta winding current can be decomposed into the two components i.e. a non-circulating component and a circulating component. The former can be estimated using the line currents. However, the latter can not be estimated directly using the line currents. A first order differential equation for the circulating current is derived by applying the Kirchhoff's voltage law on the loop of the delta side. The circulating current can be estimated by the solving the differential equation. The performance of the proposed algorithm is investigated under various conditions including magnetic inrush and over-excitation. The algorithm can estimate the circulating current very accurately even under magnetic inrush and over-excitation.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of concrete strength on the stirrup effectiveness factor(K) of reinforced concrete beams with stirrup based on previous test results(a/d$\geq$2.5). In the procedure of the estimation of K, it was assumed that the ultimate shear strength for beams without stirrup is equal to the concrete contribution to shear strength for beam with stirrup. A model equation for calculation the stirrup of compressive strength of concrete. It was shown that the stirrup effective factor of compressive strength of concrete. It wah shown that the stirrup effective factor is greater than 1.0 up to compressive strength 85MPa. Therefore the current ACI Code equation for predicting the shear strength and the stirrup effectiveness factor of 1.0 is conservative for nomal and high stength concrete beams with stirrup.

  • Position estimation in indoor is significant problem, because GPS which is usually used for outdoor positioning cannot be utilized to indoor positioning. Sensor network can be a solution for the positioning. Recently, chirp spread spectrum(CSS) specified in IEEE 802.15.4a provides an ability of ranging. Based on the results of the ranging, a position of a CSS node can be calculated by using trilateration. In this case, Kalman filter can be applied to the trilateration because of the measurement noise. In this paper, we apply the unscented Kalman filter for the trilateration. The trilateration can be represented to a nonlinear state space equation, and the unscented Kalman filter is suitable for nonlinear state space equation. Through the experimental results. we show the accuracy of the estimated position.

  • This paper proposes an estimation algorithm for the separate primary and secondary leakage inductances of a three phase $Y-\Delta$ transformer using least squares method. The voltage equations from the primary and secondary windings are combined into a differential equation to estimate the separate primary and secondary leakage inductances in order to use the line current of the delta winding. Separate primary and secondary leakage inductances are obtained by applying least squares method to the differential equation. The performance of the proposed algorithm is validated under transient states, such as magnetic inrush and overexcitation, as well as in the steady state with various cut-off frequencies of low-pass filter. The proposed technique can accurately generate separate leakage inductances both in the steady and transient states.
