This research proposes the suitable method for estimating the future probable rainfall based in 2100 on the observed rainfall data from main climate observation stations in Korea and the rainfall data from the A1B climate change scenario in the Korea Meteorological Administration. For all those, the frequency probable rainfall in 2100 was estimated by the relationship between average values of 24-hours annual maximum rainfalls and related parameters. Three methods to estimate it were introduced; First one is the regressive analysis method by parameters of probable distribution estimated by observed rainfall data. In the second method, parameters of probable distribution were estimated with the observed rainfall data. Also the rainfall data till 2100 were estimated by the A1B scenario of the Korea Meteorological Administration. Last method was that parameters of probable distribution and probable rainfall were estimated by the A1B scenario of the Korea Meteorological Administration. The estimated probable rainfall by the A1B scenario was smaller than the observed rainfall data, so it is required that the estimated probable rainfall was calibrated by the quantile mapping method. After that calibration, estimated probable rainfall data was averagely became approximate 2.3 to 3.0 times. When future probable rainfall was the estimated by only observed rainfall, estimated probable rainfall was overestimated. When future probable rainfall was estimated by the A1B scenario, although it was estimated by similar pattern with observed rainfall data, it frequently does not consider the regional characteristics. Comparing with average increased rate of 24-hours annual maximum rainfall and increased rate of probable rainfall estimated by three methods, optimal method of estimated future probable rainfall would be selected for considering climate change.
The variation of sampling errors was characterized using the Waymire-Gupta-Rodriguez-Iturbe multi-dimensional rainfall model(WGR model). The parameters used for this study are those derived by Jung et al. (2000) for the Han River Basin using a genetic algorithm technique. The sampling error problems considered are those for using raingauge network, satellite observation and also for both combined. The characterization of sampling errors was done for each month and also for the downstream plain area and the upstream mountain area, separately. As results of the study we conclude: (1) The pattern of sampling errors estimated are obviously different from the seasonal pattern of monthly rainfall amounts. This result may be understood from the fact that the sampling error is estimated not simply by considering the rainfall amounts, but by considering all the mechanisms controlling the rainfall propagation along with its generation and decay. As the major mechanism of moisture source to the Korean Peninsula is obviously different each month, it seems rather normal to provide different pattern of sampling errors from that of monthly rainfall amounts. (2) The sampling errors estimated for the upstream mountain area is about twice higher than those for the down stream plain area. It is believed to be because of the higher variability of rainfall in the upstream mountain arean than in the down stream plain area.
The purpose of this study is to apply the d4PDF (Data for Policy Decision Making for Future Change) constructed from a large-scale ensemble climate simulation to estimate the probable rainfall with low frequency and high intensity. In addition, this study analyzes the uncertainty caused by the application of the frequency analysis by comparing the probable rainfall estimated using the d4PDF with that estimated using the observed data and frequency analysis at Geunsam, Imsil, Jeonju, and Jangsu stations. The d4PDF data consists of a total of 50 ensembles, and one ensemble provides climate and weather data for 60 years such as rainfall and temperature. Thus, it was possible to collect 3,000 annual maximum daily rainfall for each station. By using these characteristics, this study does not apply the frequency analysis for estimating the probability rainfall, and we estimated the probability rainfall with a return period of 10 to 1000 years by distributing 3,000 rainfall by the magnitude based on a non-parametric approach. Then, the estimated probability rainfall using d4PDF was compared with those estimated using the Gumbel or GEV distribution and the observed rainfall, and the deviation between two probability rainfall was estimated. As a result, this deviation increased as the difference between the return period and the observation period increased. Meanwhile, the d4PDF reasonably suggested the probability rainfall with a low frequency and high intensity by minimizing the uncertainty occurred by applying the frequency analysis and the observed data with the short data period.

The frequency and scale of domestic flood damage continues to increase, but the criteria for responding to flood damage have not been established. To this end, research is underway to estimate the amount of rainfall in each region so that it can be used to respond to flood damage. The limit rainfall is defined as the cumulative maximum rainfall for each duration that causes flooding, and this research purpose to improve the threshold rainfall by estimating the damage based on the damage history in units of 5 years and analyzing changes over time. The limit rainfall based on the damage history was estimated by using the NDMS past damage history of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the rainfall minutes data of AWS and ASOS. The period for estimating the limit rainfall is 2013 ~ 2017, 2015 ~ 2019, and the limit rainfall is estimated by analyzing the relationship between the flood damage history and the rainfall event in each period. Considering changes in watershed characteristics and disaster prevention performance, the data were compared using 5-year data. As a result of the analysis, the limit rainfall based on the damage history could be estimated for less than about 10.0% of the administrative dongs nationwide. As a result of comparing the limit rainfall by period, it was confirmed that the area where the limit rainfall has increased or decreased This was analyzed as a change due to rainfall events or urbanization, and it is judged that it will be possible to improve the risk criteria of flooding.

To maintain an optimum condition for the plant growth on upland soil, the irrigation planning after the natural rainfall should be given enormous considerations on the rainfall effectiveness. This study has been intended to develop the computer model for estimating the effec- tiveness of the rainfall. The computer model should also estimated the infiltration due to the rainfall and the soil moisture deficiency at the root zone of the plant. For this purpose, the experiments of infiltration using rainfall simulator and the observations of the change of soil moisture content before and after rainfall were carried out. Needed input data for the developed model include final infiltration capacity and field capacity of the soil, porosity of the top soil, root depth of the plant, rainfall intensity and duration, and the Horton's decay coefficient. Among the needed input data for the developed model, final infiltration capacity and Horton's decay coefficient were determined by the experiments of infiltration. And from the result of the experiments, it is found that there is a great correlation between initial infiltration capacity and initial moisture content. And it is also found that the infiltration due to rainfall can be estimated with the Horton's equation. The developed model was tested by the experimental data with two rainfall intensities. Tests were conducted on the different root depths at each rainfall. Observed and estimated effective rainfalls were found to have great correlation. The result of the experiments showed that the effectiveness of the rainfall were 100%, so the comparisons were conducted by the comsumption rates of infiltration at each depth. The developed model can be also used for estimating the deficiency of rainfall, if the rainfall is not sufficient to the needed soil moisture. But, test was not carried out.

The occurrence of soil erosions in Korea is mostly driven by flowing water which has a close relationship with rainfalls. The soil eroded by rainfalls flows into and deposits in the river and it polluted the water resources and making the rivers become difficult to be managed. Recently, the frequency of heavy rainfall events that are more than 30 mm/hr has been increasing in Korea due to the influence of climate change, which creating a favourable condition for the occurrence of soil erosion within a short time. In this study, we proposed a method to estimate the distribution of rainfall intensity and to calculate the energy produced by a single rainfall event using the cumulative distribution function that take into account of the physical characteristics of rainfall. The raindrops kinetic energy estimated by the proposed method are compared with the measured data from the previous studies and it is noticed that the raindrops kinetic energy estimated by the rainfall intensity variation is very similar to the results concluded from the previous studies. In order to develop an equation for estimating rainfall kinetic energy, rainfall particle size data measured at a rainfall intensity of 0.254~152.4 mm/hr were used. The rainfall kinetic energy estimated by applying the cumulative distribution function tended to increase in the form of a power function in the relation of rainfall intensity. Based on the equation obtained from this relationship, the rainfall kinetic energy of 1~80 mm/hr rainfall intensity was estimated to be $0.03{\sim}48.26Jm^{-2}mm^{-1}$. Based on the relationship between rainfall intensity and rainfall energy, rainfall kinetic energy equation is proposed as a power function form and it is expected that it can be used in the design of short-term operated facility such as the sizing of sedimentation basin that requires prediction of soil loss by a single rainfall event.

Groundwater recharge rate can be estimated from groundwater head rebound due to rainfall. Groundwater level changes are monitored for 10 months at Yugu area. Difference between two recharge rates calculated by rainfall and by effective rainfall is 1.1%~1.6%. Since this method ignores soil water percolation during groundwater level regression, the actual recharge rate may be higher than estimated one by cumulative rainfall and groundwater level change.

This research seeks to derive the design rainfalls through the L-moment with the test of homogeneity, independence and outlier of data on annual maximum daily rainfall in 38 Korean rainfall stations. To select the fit appropriate distribution of annual maximum daily rainfall data according to rainfall stations, applied were Generalized Extreme Value (GEV), Generalized Logistic (GLO) and Generalized Pareto (GPA) probability distributions were applied. and their aptness was judged Dusing an L-moment ratio diagram and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) test, the aptitude was judged of applied distributions such as GEV, GLO and GPA. The GEV and GLO distributions were selected as the appropriate distributions. Their parameters were estimated Targetingfrom the observed and simulated annual maximum daily rainfalls and using Monte Carlo techniques, the parameters of GEV and GLO selected as suitable distributions were estimated and. dDesign rainfallss were then derived, using the L-moment. Appropriate design rainfalls were suggested by doing a comparative analysis of design rainfall from the GEV and GLO distributions according to rainfall stations.
The purpose of this research is to understand the change of runoff characteristics by estimated spatial rainfall. Therefore, this paper largely composed of two parts. First, we compared the simulated result according to estimation method, ID(Inverse Distance Method, ID2(Inverse Square Distance Method), and Kr(General Covariance Kriging Method), after letting miss rainfall data to the observed data. Second, we reviewed the runoff characteristics of the distributed runoff model according to the estimated spatial rainfall. On the basis of Yuseong water level station, we select the target basin as Gabchun watershed. We assumed 1 point or 2 point of the 6 rainfall gauge stations in watershed were missed. We applied the spatial rainfall distributed by Kr to Hy-GIS GRM, distributed runoff model. When 1 point rainfall data is missed, Kr is superior to others in point rainfall estimation and runoff estimation of Hy-GIS GRM. However, in case rainfall data of 2 points is missed, all of three methods did not give suitable result for them. In conclusion, Kr showed better applicability than other estimated methods if rainfall's data less than 2 points is missed.
