Facial esthetics and smiling are key components in nonverbal communication and have an important role in determination of the first impression of a person. The various components of the smile in dental esthetics include Gingival scaffold, lip framework, and Teeth. The periodontist creates a smile by performing various periodontal plastic microsurgery procedures for management of mucogingival problems. A 25-year-old patient reported to the Department of Periodontology at Teerthanker Mahaveer Dental College and Research Center, Moradabad, Northern India, with the chief complaint of long looking teeth in the upper jaw, making him conscious while smiling. Miller class I gingival recession with Maxillary left canine (23) was diagnosed. Periodontal plastic microsurgery employing double papilla grafting with connective tissue graft harvested from the palate in order to cover denuded root was performed using microsurgical instruments and microsuturing with 6-0 suturing material under magnification. Healing was uneventful, with achievement of 100% root coverage of denuded root after three months. The patient was highly impressed and satisfied with his enhanced smile.
More and more, esthetic and functional reconstruction of intra oral bone defect by trauma, pathologic disease is increasing in these days. the study about this field is going. Autogenous bone graft has advantage in biocompatyibility, but loss of donor material was relatively large. Allogenic graft has disadvantage in immunologic refusal reaction. We reconstructed several cases of periodontal, alveolar bone defects and pathologic bone defects, In all cases, we used resorbable membrane Biomesh and autogenous bone graft from retromolar triangle area, chin, torus, maxillary tuberosity, and extraction socket. From these cases, we obtained good prognosis, so we report clinical cases of Guided Tissue Regeneration with autogenous bone graft.
A new kind of 'All Ceramic Crown' could be manufactured by making improvements in the manufacturing technique for the current 'All Ceramic Crown' which does not use a special ceramic but rather a general one as a substitute. If we use the manufacturing technique for the 'All Ceramic Crown', metal coping and core are not produced. The effects of the new manufacturing technique for the 'All Ceramic Crown' are as follows: First. We do not need to use new material or special machinery or tools. Second. We can use general machinery and tools. Third. Using the basic 'All Ceramic Technique', we anticipate improvement in learning in our students. Forth. We can save effort, materials and time. Fifth. The technique also has advantages for esthetic 'temporary crown'.
Fiber-reinforced materials have highly favorable mechanical properties. and their strength-to-weight ratios are superior to those of most alloys. When compared to metals they offer many other advantages as well. including non-corrosiveness. translucency. good bonding properties. and ease ofrepair. Fiber-reinforced materials can be categorized to pre-impregnated. impregnation required. dental laboratory products. chairside products and prefabricated posts. so it is not suprising that fiber-reinforced composites have potential for use in many applications in dentistry. Fiber-reinforced materials can be utilized in frameworks for crowns. anterior or posterior fixed prostheses. chairs ide tooth replacements. periodontal splints. customized posts. prefabricated posts. orthodontic retention. denture reinforcements and in implants dentistry. To realize the full potential of using fiber-reinforced composite restorations. it is essential that the clinician and laboratory technician understand concepts of tooth preparation and framework design. Also practitioner may appreciate the background information and other details about the materials themselves so that identify the rationale for their use in various clinical situations. select well-suited materials. and carry out related procedures. Understanding the material properties and take many attentions. fiber-reinforced materials will give more esthetic. more easy. more strong and more reliable restorations.ations.
Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the properties of fiber-reinforced composite and stainless steel twisted retainers for orthodontic retention. Methods: Three different span lengths (5.0, 8.0, and 14.0 mm) of fiber-reinforced composite were investigated. The three fiber-reinforced composite retainer groups were subdivided according to the storage condition (dry and wet), resulting in a total of six groups. Each stainless steel and fiber-reinforced composite group was comprised of six specimens. The three-point bending flexural test was conducted using a universal testing machine. ANOVA was used to assess differences in the maximum load and maximum stress according to the span length, material, and storage condition. Post-hoc comparisons were performed if necessary. Results: The maximum stress and maximum load were significantly (p < 0.001) associated with the span length, material, and storage condition. The significant interaction between the material and span length (p < 0.001) indicated the differential effects of the material for each span length on the maximum stress and maximum load, with the difference between materials being the highest for the maximum span length. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that fiber-reinforced composite retainers may be an effective alternative for orthodontic retention in patients with esthetic concerns or allergy to conventional stainless steel wires.

In general, to conduct aesthetic restorations, various analyses are carried out using a camera from the initial examination with the final prosthesis in consideration. With the reality that many dentists are using digital cameras, it can be considered that the time of digital impression has already started. Just as the recent general trend is that more and more internationally renowned photographers are switching their film cameras to digital counterparts, it is likely that CAD/CAM will show another direction in the area of the aesthetic dentistry that we may want to pursue. With the word 'digital', the convenience and economics often come to mind in the first place. However, from the dental clinical viewpoint, it is important to improve and develop the CAD/CAM system based on understanding its specialty and superiority while respecting the conventional analog techniques. However, a regretful aspect is that it is often difficult to catch up with the latest advancements for proper referencing and follow-up of digital technologies since the CAD/CAM device and material are developing very rapidly. Accordingly, although it is ideal to have hands-on experiences in various digital material and devices, and adapt to their fast changes, it must be stressed that the clinical application is to be implemented on the basis of the proven traditional way of dental clinics in order to obtain better outcomes. This presentation will explore types of approaches that can be made by combining the traditional techniques and the CAD/CAM from the aesthetic viewpoint. In addition, it is hoped and eagerly awaited that the CAD/CAM restoration may play a significant role in the field of the 'digital art'.
Purpose: The increasing demand for esthetically pleasing results has contributed to the use of ceramics for dental implant abutments. The aim of this study was to compare the biological response of epithelial tissue cultivated on lithium disilicate ($LS_2$) and zirconium oxide ($ZrO_2$) ceramics. Understanding the relevant physicochemical and mechanical properties of these ceramics will help identify the optimal material for facilitating gingival wound closure. Methods: Both biomaterials were prepared with 2 different surface treatments: raw and polished. Their physicochemical characteristics were analyzed by contact angle measurements, scanning white-light interferometry, and scanning electron microscopy. An organotypic culture was then performed using a chicken epithelium model to simulate peri-implant soft tissue. We measured the contact angle, hydrophobicity, and roughness of the materials as well as the tissue behavior at their surfaces (cell migration and cell adhesion). Results: The best cell migration was observed on $ZrO_2$ ceramic. Cell adhesion was also drastically lower on the polished $ZrO_2$ ceramic than on both the raw and polished $LS_2$. Evaluating various surface topographies of $LS_2$ showed that increasing surface roughness improved cell adhesion, leading to an increase of up to 13%. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that a biomaterial, here $LS_2$, can be modified using simple surface changes in order to finely modulate soft tissue adhesion. Strong adhesion at the abutment associated with weak migration assists in gingival wound healing. On the same material, polishing can reduce cell adhesion without drastically modifying cell migration. A comparison of $LS_2$ and $ZrO_2$ ceramic showed that $LS_2$ was more conducive to creating varying tissue reactions. Our results can help dental surgeons to choose, especially for esthetic implant abutments, the most appropriate biomaterial as well as the most appropriate surface treatment to use in accordance with specific clinical dental applications.
;Dentistry has benefited from tremendous advances in technology with the introduction of new techniques and materials, and patients are aware that esthetic approaches in dentistry can change one's appearance. Increasingly. tooth-colored restorative materials have been used for restoration of posterior teeth. Tooth-colored restoration for posterior teeth can be divided into three categories: 1) the direct techniques that can be made in a single appointment and are an intraoral procedure utilizing composites: 2) the semidirect techniques that require both an intraoral and an extraoral procedure and are luted chairside utilizing composites: and 3) the indirect techniques that require several appointments and the expertise of a dental technician working with either composites or ceramics. But, resin restoration has inherent drawbacks of microleakage. polymerization shrinkage, thermal cycling problems. and wear in stress-bearing areas. On the other hand, Ceramic restorations have many advantages over resin restorations. Ceramic inlays are reported to have less leakage than resin restoration and to fit better. although marginal fidelity depends on technique and is laboratory dependent. Adhesion of luting resin is more reliable and durable to etched ceramic material than to treated resin composite. In view of color matching, periodontal health. resistance to abrasion, ceramic restoration is superior to resin restorationl. Materials which have been used for the fabrication of ceramic restorations are various. Conventional powder slurry ceramics are also available. Castable ceramics are produced by centrifugal casting of heat-treated glass ceramics. and machinable ceramics are feldspathic porcelains or cast glass ceramics which are milled using a CAD/CAM apparatus to produce inlays (for example, Cered. They may also be copy milled using the Celay apparatus. Pressable ceramics are produced from feldspathic porcelain which is supplied in ingot form and heated and moulded under pressure to produce a restoration. Infiltrated ceramics are another class of material which are available for use as ceramic inlays. An example is $In-Ceram^{\circledR}$(Vident. California, USA) which consists of a porous aluminum oxide or spinell core infiltrated with glass and subsequently veneered with feldspathic porcelain. In the 1980s. the development of compatible refractory materials made fabrication easier. and the development of adhesive resin cements greatly improved clinical success rates. This case report presents esthetic ceramic inlays for posterior teeth.teeth.
Statement of the problem : IPS Empress ceramic has been used as one of a esthetic restorative material since it's development, but the broad application of IPS Empress ceramic to clinical prosthodontic field has been limited by its high material cost. Purpose : This study was investigated to evaluate the hardness and fracture toughness after recycling of the IPS Empress ceramic. Material and methods : Reused specimens of IPS Empress were fabricated with repeated pressing. The hardness(Vickers hardness) and fracture toughness of 1st, 2nd and 3rd pressed specimens were measured with Digital Micro Hardness Tester(Model MXT70, Matsuzawa Seiki Co., Ltd, Tokyo, Japan). The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS(Ver 9.5). Result : The mean value of the hardness in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd pressed Empress were $6.23{\pm}0.48MPa,\;5.50{\pm}0.25MPa$, and $5.70{\pm}0.42MPa$. The hardness of the 1st pressing ceramic was higher than those or the 2nd and 3rd pressed ceramics(P<0.05). Hardness of the 3rd pressed ceramic was greater than that of the 2nd pressed ceramic. but there was no significant difference of hardness between those two(P>0.05). The mean value of the fracture toughness was $1.71{\pm}0.16MPam^{1/2}$ in 1st pressed ceramic, $1.78{\pm}0.10MPam^{1/2}$ in 2nd pressed and $1.73{\pm}0.14MPam^{1/2}$ in 3rd pressed IPS ceramic. Fracture toughness of the 2nd pressed ceramic was the highest and that of the 1st pressed ceramic was the lowest. There was no significant difference of fracture toughness among them(P>0.05). Conclusion : Hardness of the 2nd and 3rd pressed IPS Empress ceramics were lesser than that of 1st pressed IPS Empress ceramic(P<0.05), but there was no significant changes of fracture toughness among them(P>0.05).

The purpose of this study is to evaluate visual preferences of the methods for river embankment based on seasonal changes and to reveal the relationship between visual preference and effective factors, which are the physical and esthetic elements inside the river. For this research seven river embankment methods including concrete block, concrete wall, gabion, and vegetated concrete block were selected in Dongchon of Gwangyang. Twenty-eight pictures by the four pictures of each embankment method based on seasonal changes, the winter and summer of the first and second years after construction were used for a photo-questionnaire by 49 participants. In the analysis of the relationship between visual preference and effective factors, the independent variables included eight factors: form of the material, harmony with the surroundings, the cleanness of river floor, the green area of embankment methods, the water area in river floor, the stone and sand area in river floor, the planting area in river floor, and the area of embankment itself. The result of this study are as follows. First, visual preference in summer was higher than in winter, and the summer landscape of the second you scored the highest value for visual preference. Second, similarly to the way the vegetated concrete block produced a green effect, cobblestone and gabion embankments made of natural materials scored higher than others, whereas the concrete retaining wall scored the lowest of all methods because of it's artificiality. Third, the seven independent variables, except form of the material, are proved statistically significant at the 5% level. The water area in river floor, harmony with the surroundings, the planting area in river floor, and the cleanness of the river floor were revealed as more effective factors influencing visual preference. The research results suggest that the riverscape has to be controlled in terms of seasonal change and embankment methods. Natural materials and green effects in embankment methods are more important for increasing landscape preference, and the landscape factors inside a river should also be considered important variables. It is recommended that advanced study on other factors affecting visual preference of the riverscape be carried out to support this research.
