An analysis of bit error probability of RS/trellis concatenated coded-modulation systems for mobile radio channel (이동통신 채널에서의 RS/trellis 연접 부호변조 시스템의 비트오율 해석)

  • The bit error probability of RS/trellis concatenated coded-modualtion system in the mobile radio channel is analyzed. A new upper bound to the symbol error probability of the inner TCM in the mobile radio channel is obtained by exploiting the unequal symbol error probability of the TCM. This bound is applied to the derivation of the upper bound to the bit error probability of the concatenated coded-modulation system. An efficient way of searching distance spectrum of the TCM in mobile radio channel is devised. Our new bounds are tighter than the earlier studied other bounds.

  • We present a unified local and semilocal convergence analysis for secant-type methods in order to approximate a locally unique solution of a nonlinear equation in a Banach space setting. Our analysis includes the computation of the bounds on the limit points of the majorizing sequences involved. Under the same computational cost our semilocal convergence criteria can be weaker; the error bounds more precise and in the local case the convergence balls can be larger and the error bounds tighter than in earlier studies such as [1-3,7-14,16,20,21] at least for the cases of Newton's method and the secant method. Numerical examples are also presented to illustrate the theoretical results obtained in this study.

  • This paper addresses the robust adaptive output feedback tracking for nonlinear systems under disturbances whose bounds are unknown. A new algorithm is proposed for estimation of unknown bounds and adaptive control of the uncertain nonlinear systems. The State estimation is solved using K-filters, together with the construction of a bound of an error in the state estimation due to the perturbation of the disturbance. Tuning functions are used to estimate unknown system parameters without overparametrization. The proposed control algorithm ensures that the out put tracking error converges to a residual set which can be arbitrarily small, while maintaining the boundedness of all other variables. A simulation shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach

  • The union upper bounds to the bit error probability of maximum likelihood(ML) soft-decoding of parallel concatenated convolutional codes(PCCC) and serially concatenated convolutional codes(SCCC) can be evaluated through the weight enumerating function(WEF). This union upper bounds become the lower bounds of the BER achievable when iterative decoding is used. In this paper, to compute the WEF, an efficient error event search algorithm which is a combination of stack algorithm and bidirectional search algorithm is proposed. By computor simulation, it is shown that the union boounds obtained by using the proposed algorithm become the lower bounds to BER of concatenated convolutional codes with iterative decoding.

  • The closed-loop state and input observer is a pole-placement type observer and estimates unknown state and input variables simultaneously. Pole-placement type observers may have poor performances with respect to modeling error and sensing bias error. The effects of these ill-conditioning factors must be minimized for the robust performance in designing observers. In this paper, the steady-state performance of the closed-loop state and input observer is investigated quantitatively and is represented as the estimation error bounds. The performance indices are selected from these error bounds and are related to the robustness with respect to modeling errors and sensing bias. By considering both transient and steady-state performance, the main performance index is determined as the condition number of the eigenvector matrix based on $L_2$-norm.

  • This paper presents the bit error rate(BER) upper bounds for trellis coded asymmetric 8PSK(TC-A8PSK) system using the Ka-band satellite in the rain fading environment. The probability density function(PDF) for the rain fading random variable can be theoretically derived by assuming that the rain attenuation can be approximated to a long-normal distribution and the rain fading parameters are calculated by using the rain precipitation data from the Crane global model. Furthermore, we analyze the BER upper bounds of TC-A8PSK system according to the number of states in the trellis diagram and the availability of channel state information(CSI). In the past, Divsalar and Simon[9] has analyzed the BER upper bounds of 2-state TCM system in Rician fading channels however this paper is the first to analyze the BER upper bounds of TCM system in the rain fading channels. Finally, we summarize the dominant six factors which are closely related to the BER upper bounds of TC-A8PSK satellite system in the rain fading channel as follows: 1) frequency band, 2) rain intensity, 3) elevation angle, 4) signal to noise ratio, 5) asymmetric angle, and 6) availability of CSI.

Relationship Analysis on the Monitoring Period and Parameter Estimation Error of the Coastal Wave Climate Data (연안 파랑 관측기간과 모수추정 오차 관계분석)

  • In this study, the quantitative analysis and pattern analysis of the error bounds with respect to recording period were carried out using the wave climate data from coastal areas. Arbitrary recording periods were randomly sampled from one month to six years using the bootstrap method. Based on the analysis, for recording periods less than one year, it was found that the error bounds decreased rapidly as the recording period increased. Meanwhile, the error bounds were found to decrease more slowly for recording periods longer than one year. Assuming the absolute estimate error to be around 10% (${\pm}0.1m$) for an one meter significant wave height condition, the minimum recording period for reaching the estimate error for Sokcho and Geoje-Hongdo stations satisfied this condition with over two years of data, while Anmado station was found to satisfy this condition when using observational data of over three years. The confidence intervals of the significant wave height clearly show an increasing pattern when the percentile value of the wave height increases. Whereas, the confidence intervals of the mean wave period are nearly constant, at around 0.5 seconds except for the tail regions, i.e., 2.5- and 97.5-percentile values. The error bounds for 97.5-percentile values of the wave height necessary for harbor tranquility analysis were found to be 0.75 m, 0.5 m, and 1.2 m in Sokcho, Geoje-Hongdo, and Anmado, respectively.

  • A finite-dimensional approximation technique is developed for a class of spectral systems with input and output operators which are unbounded. A corresponding bounding technique on the frequency-response error is also established for control system design. Our goal is to construct an uncertainty model including a nominal plant and its error bounds so that the results from robust linear control theory can be applied to guarantee a closed loop control performance. We demonstrate by numerical example that these techniques are applicable, with a modest computational burden, to a wide class of distributed parameter system plants.

Pole-placement type observers may have poor transient performance with respect to ill-conditioning factors such as unknown initial estimates, round-off error, etc. For the robust transient performance, the effects of these ill-conditioning factors must be minimized in designing observers. In this paper, the transient performance of the closed-loop state and input observer is investigated quantitatively by considering the error bounds due to ill-conditioning factors. The performance indices are selected from these error bounds and are related to the observer robustness with respect to the ill -conditioning factors. The closed-loop state and input observer with small performance indices is considered as a well-conditioned observer from the transient perspective.
