  • Wet wire drawing process is used to produce fine wire in the industrial field. The production of fine eire by using wet wire drawing process with appropriate dies pass schedule would be impossible without understanding of relationship between process parameters such as material properties, dies reduction, friction conditions, drawing speed etc. However, up to new, dies pass schedule of wet wire drawing process has performed by trial and error of expert. Therefore, this study investigates the relationship between process parameters quantitatively and analyzes a conventional wet wire drawing process. Using the results, the conventional pass schedule can be redesigned to reduce the wire breakage during wet wire drawing. To verily the result of this study, the wet wire drawing experiment was performed. And the results between conventional process and redesigned pass schedule were compared. As the comparison of results, the wire breakage was considerably reduced in the redesigned pass schedule more than conventional pass schedule.

  • Servo control loops are a core part in the control architecture of machine tools. Servo control loops manage acceleration, velocity and position of all the axes in a machine tool based on commands. The performance of servo control loops sets the basis for quality of production paris and cycle time reduction. First, this paper presents a general control architecture of machine tools and several control schemes in literature, which can be applicable to machine tools control; including Zero Phase Error Tracking Control (ZPETC) and Cross Coupling Control (CCC). After that, modem control strategies to mitigate the problem of high speed machining are reviewed. In high speed machining, high accelerations excite the machine structure up to high frequencies, thereby exciting the structure's modes of vibration. These structural vibrations need to be damped if accurate positioning or trajectory following is required. Input shaping is an attractive option in dealing with structural vibrations. The advantages and drawbacks of using input shaping technique for machine tools are discussed in detail.

  • Development of high speed feed drive system has been a major issue for the past few decades in machine tool industries. The reduction of the tool change time as well as rapid travel time can enhance the productivity. However, the high speed feed drive system generates more heat in nature, which leads thermal expansion that has adverse effects on the accuracy of machined parts. The detail of the model proposed is described in the paper together with the experimental methodologies using a proposed compact measurement system to examine the validity of the proposed approach. The results showed the machining accuracy could be maintained to better than $\pm$ 5$\mu\textrm{m}$ while using this sensor.

  • In this paper, a new pre-processing algorithm is proposed to improve the performance of stereo acoustic echo canceller. The proposed algorithm has the improved performance by the estimation error reduction of filter coefficient using input signal which was reduced reverberation of room in the basis MINT (Mu1tip1e-input/output Inverse Theorem) filtering. For real stereo speech signal and real room impulse response the results of simulation, we showed that the proposed method could improved 3∼5 dB ERLE (Echo Return Loss Enhancement) regardless of NLMS (Normalized Least Mean Square) and Projection adaptive algorithm.

  • It is important to measure financial effect of six sigma projects accurately for successful implementation of six sigma in a company. However, researches on methods of six sigma financial effect measurement are relatively new. In this study, frequent error patterns of six sigma financial effect measurement are defined and accurate measurement methods are suggested. And a method of connecting six sigma financial effect to corporate income performance is also suggested which not only assures reliability of financial effect measurement but also helps to align with business strategy.

  • A developed neutron activation analysis(NAA) and gamma-spectrometry were applied to improve the analytical sensitivity and precision of impurities in electronic-circuit raw materials. It is well known that soft errors in high precision electronic circuits can be induced by alpha particles emitted from naturally occurring radioactive impurities such as U and Th. As electronic circuits have recently become smaller in dimension and higher in density, these alpha-particle emitting radioactive impurities must be strictly controlled. Therefore, new NAA methods have been established using a HTS(Hydraulic Transfer System) irradiation facility and a background reduction method. For eliminating or stabilizing fluctuated background caused by Rn-222 and its progeny nuclides in air, a nitrogen purging system is used. Using the developed NAA and gamma-spectrometry, ultra trace amounts of U(0.1ng/g) and Th(0.01ng/g) in an alumina ball and high purity silica used for an epoxy molding compound (EMC) could be determined.

  • Shape form focus (SFF) is a technique that reconstructs 3D shape of an object using image focus. Although many SFF methods have been proposed, there are still notable inaccuracy effects due to noise and non-optimization of image characteristics. In this paper, we propose a noise filter technique for noise reduction and genetic algorithm (GA) for focus measure optimization. The proposed method is analyzed with a statistical criteria such as Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and correlation.

  • Embedding a large vocabulary speech recognition system in mobile devices requires a reduced acoustic model obtained by eliminating redundant model parameters. In conventional optimization methods based on the minimum description length (MDL) criterion, a binary Gaussian tree is built at each state of a hidden Markov model by iteratively finding and merging similar mixture components. An optimal subset of the tree nodes is then selected to generate a downsized acoustic model. To obtain a better binary Gaussian tree by improving the process of finding the most similar Gaussian components, this paper proposes a new distance measure that exploits the difference in likelihood values for cases before and after two components are combined. The mixture weight of Gaussian components is also introduced in the component merging step. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms MDL-based optimization using either a Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence or weighted KL divergence measure. The proposed method could also reduce the acoustic model size by 50% with less than a 1.5% increase in error rate compared to a baseline system.

  • Discrimination between speech and music is important in many multimedia applications. In this paper, focusing on the spectral change characteristics of speech and music, we propose a new method of speech/music discrimination based on cepstral distance. Instead of using cepstral distance between the frames with fixed interval, the minimum of cepstral distances among neighbor frames is employed to increase discriminability between fast changing music and speech. And, to prevent misclassification of speech segments including short pause into music, short pause segments are excluded from computing cepstral distance. The experimental results show that proposed method yields the error rate reduction of$68\%$, in comparison with the conventional approach using cepstral distance.

  • In Korean, each digit is monosyllable and some pairs are known to have high confusability, causing performance degradation of connected digit recognition systems. To improve the performance, in this paper, we employ various discriminant analyses (DA) including Linear DA (LDA), Weighted Pairwise Scatter LDA WPS-LDA), Heteroscedastic Discriminant Analysis (HDA), and Maximum Likelihood Linear Transformation (MLLT). We also examine several combinations of various DA for additional performance improvement. Experimental results show that applying any DA mentioned above improves the string accuracy, but the amount of improvement of each DA method varies according to the model complexity or number of mixtures per state. Especially, more than 20% of string error reduction is achieved by applying MLLT after WPS-LDA, compared with the baseline system, when class level of DA is defined as a tied state and 1 mixture per state is used.
