  • Adsorption of melamine was examined using columns packed with granular activated carbon (GAC). Raw GAC was sieved with 20, 40, 60 and 80 mesh to determine the influence of adsorbent particle size on reaction and diffusion. The mass ratio of the adsorption capacity of GAC for melamine ranged from 9.19 to 11.06%, and adsorption rates increased with decreasing particle size within this range. Rate constants between 3.295 ~ 4.799 $min^{-1}$ were obtained using a pseudofirst-order equation that was used to determine adsorption kinetics. A surface diffusion model was adapted to take into account the unsteady-state equation of a spherical adsorbent by converting the surface concentration from a constant to a variable governed by a dispersion equation. The calculated values were fit with the experimental results by using the diffusion coefficients as regression parameters. The modified equation exhibited a more precise agreement with respect to the sum of the absolute error (SAE).

  • Students have difficulties in solving linear equation problems with a variable on the right side rather than linear equation problems a variable on the left side of the sign of equality. In order for students to overcome such difficulties, opportunities to experience many types of basic linear equation problems would have to be provided. Also, it is necessary to examine the process of students' problem solving process by constructing various types of evaluation item and test them in instruction and learning of linear equations, or grasp students' studying statues through individual interview and based on theses, error correction through feedbacks have to be achieved.

  • The applicability of near infrared reflectance spectroscopy(NIRS) was tested to determine the protein and oil contents in ground soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] seeds. A total of 189 soybean calibration samples and 103 validation samples were used for NIRS equation development and validation, respectively. In the NIRS equation of protein, the most accurate equation was obtained at 2, 8, 6, 1(2nd derivative, 8 nm gap, 6 points smoothing and 1 point second smoothing) math treatment condition with SNV-D (Standard Normal Variate and Detrend) scatter correction method and entire spectrum by using MPLS (Modified Partial Least Squares) regression. In the case of oil, the best equation was obtained at 1, 4, 4, 1 condition with SNV-D scatter correction method and near infrared (1100-2500nm) region by using MPLS regression. Validation of these NIRS equations showed very low bias (protein:-0.016%, oil : -0.011 %) and standard error of prediction (SEP, protein: 0.437%, oil: 0.377%) and very high coefficient of determination ($R^2$, protein: 0.985, oil : 0.965). Therefore, these NIRS equation seems reliable for determining the protein and oil content, and NIRS method could be used as a mass screening method of soybean seed.

  • The dual reciprocity boundary element method (DRBEM) is used to solve the Graetz problem of laminar flow inside circular duct. In this method the domain integral tenn of boundary integral equation resulting from source term of governing equation is transformed into equivalent boundary-only integrals by using the radial basis interpolation function, and therefore complicate domain discretization procedure Is completely removed. Velocity profile is obtained by solving the momentum equation first and then, using this velocities as Input data, energy equation Is solved to get the temperature profile by advancing from duct entrance through the axial direction marching scheme. DRBEM solution is tested for the uniform temperature and heat flux boundary condition cases. Local Nusselt number, mixed mean temperature and temperature profile inside duct at each dimensionless axial location are obtained and compared with exact solutions for the accuracy test Solutions arc in good agreement at the entry region as well as fully developed region of circular duct, and their accuracy are verified from error analysis.

  • The poisson's ratio was obtained from the effective vertical stress and horizontal stress of consolidation-undrained test. It was analyzed void ratio verse poisson's ratio. At the result, the effective friction angle was increase with relative density increased, was decreased the poisson's ratio. The empirical equation of void ratio and poisson's ratio was showed very high correlation r2=0.846. The empirical equation was showed that the smaller the void ratio in the fine grained soil than granular soil. In the case of 0.85 times the correlation analysis equation of granular and fine grained soil, the experimental results were shown very similarly. In especially, the poisson's ratio prediction results was shown within 5% of the error range, was revalidation 0.85 times the correlation analysis equation using the void ratio. In this study, correlation analysis equation of the granular and fine grained soil was more reliability of the poisson's ratio prediction results apply to the void ratio than dry unit weight.

  • One of the most frequent issues in tunnel excavation is the collapse of rock blocks and the dropping of rock fragments from the tunnel face. The tunnel face can be reinforced using a number of techniques. One of the most popular and affordable solutions is the use of face longitudinal dowels, which has benefits including high strength, flexibility, and ease of cutting. In order to examine the reinforced face, this work shows the longitudinal deformation profile and ground response curve for a tunnel face. This approach is based on assumptions made during the analysis phase of problem solving. By knowing the tunnel face response and dowel behavior, the interaction of two elements can be solved. The rock element equation derived from the rock bolt method is combined with the dowel differential equation to solve the reinforced ground response curve (GRC). With a straightforward and accurate analytical equation, the new differential equation produces the reinforced displacement of the tunnel face at each stage of excavation. With simple equations and a less involved computational process, this approach offers quick and accurate solutions. The FLAC3D simulation has been compared with the suggested analytical approach. A logical error is apparent from the discrepancies between the two solutions. Each component of the equation's effect has also been described.

  • Site index is an essential tool to estimate forest productivity. Generally, a site index equation is developed and used from the relationship between stand age and dominant tree heights. However, there is a limit to the use of the site index equation in the application of variable ages, environmental influence, and estimation of site index for the unstocked forest. Therefore, it has been attempted to develop a new site index equation based on various environmental factors including site, climate, and topographical variables. This study was conducted to develop a site index equation based on the relationship between site index and environmental factors for the species of Pinus koraiensis in Yangpyung-Gun, Gyunggi Province. The influence of climatic factors (temperature and solar irradiation ratio), topographical factors (elevation, slope, ratio of slope to valley and aspect) and soil profiles (soil depth by layer and soil consistency) on site index were evaluated by multiple regression analysis. Five environmental factors were selected in the final site index equation for Pinus koraiensis. The site index equation developed in this study was also verified by three evaluation statistics: model's estimation bias, model's precision, and mean square error of measurement. Based on the site index equation, the number of productive areas for Pinus koraiensis were estimated by applying GIS technique to digitized forest maps. In addition, the distribution of productive areas was compared with the areas of current distribution of Pinus koraiensis. It is expected that the results obtained in this study could provide valuable information about the amount and distribution of productive areas for Pinus koraiensis reforestation.

  • The purpose of this study was to design a single frequency BIA(Bioelectrical Impedance Analyzer) which can measure body impedance when patient is sitting on the toilet and to develope a prediction equation for designed BIA. For the purpose of this study, we acquired body impedances with designed BIA from 181 subjects composed of healthy Korean by attaching electrodes to suitable positions(wrist and thigh) for toilet measurement. We computed an appropriate FFM(Fat Free Mass) for Korean using modified-Siri equation to the same subjects instead of Siri equation which nay cause accuracy problems in hydrodensitometry when it applied to Korean. We used this FFM as reference value and developed a Korean FFM prediction equation based on body impedance index, body weight and sex. Correlation coefficient between prediction value and reference value of FFM was extremely high (r = 0.977) and SEE(Standard Error of Estimation) was low 2.47kg.(p<0.05) For comparison between existing electrode-attaching method and our method for toilet measurement, we acquired body impedance with designed BIA from same subjects attaching electrodes on existing positions (wrist and ankle) and made FFM prediction equation for BIA. Correlation coeffient between predicted value and reference value was 0.978 and SEE was 2.43kg(p<0.05). It means that the developed system has not significant differences with existing method. In conclusion bioelectrical impedance analyzer and the FFM prediction equation developed in this paper are evaluated to he adequate to compute FFM of Korean.

  • Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy(NIRS) is a quick, accurate, and non-destructive method to measure multiple nutrient components in plant leaves. This study was to acquire a liner regression equation by evaluating the nutrient contents of 'CY2' creeping bentgrass rapidly and accurately using NIRS. In particular, nitrogen fertility is a primary element to keep maintaining good quality of turfgrass. Nitrogen, moisture, carbohydrate, and starch were assessed and analyzed from 'CY2' creeping bentgrass clippings. A linear regression equation was obtained from accessing NIRS values from NIR spectrophotometer(NIR system, Model XDS, XM-1100 series, FOSS, Sweden) programmed with WinISI III project manager v1.50e and ISIscan(R) (Infrasoft International) and calibrated with laboratory values via chemical analysis from an authorized institute. The equation was formulated as MPLS(modified partial least squares) analyzing laboratory values and mathematically pre-treated spectra. The accuracy of the acquired equation was confirmed with SEP(standard error of prediction), which indicated as correlation coefficient($r^2$) and prediction error of sample unacquainted, followed by the verification of model equation of real values and these monitoring results. As results of monitoring, $r^2$ of nitrogen, moisture, and carbohydrate in 'CY2' creeping bentgrass was 0.840, 0.904, and 0.944, respectively. SEP was 0.066, 1.868, and 0.601, respectively. After outlier treatment, $r^2$ was 0.892, 0.925, and 0.971, while SEP was 0.052, 1.577, and 0.394, respectively, which totally showed a high correlation. However, $r^2$ of starch was 0.464, which appeared a low correlation. Thereof, the verified equation appearing higher $r^2$ of nitrogen, moisture, and carbohydrate showed its higher accuracy of prediction model, which finally could be put into practical use for turf management system.
