This study is concerned with the stability of laminated composite plates modelled using Eringen's nonlocal differential model (ENDM) and a novel refined-hyperbolic-shear-deformable plate theory. The plate is assumed to be lying on the Pasternak elastic foundation and is under the influence of an in-plane magnetic field. The governing equations and boundary conditions are obtained through Hamilton's principle. An analytical approach considering Navier series is used to fine the critical bucking load. After verifying with existing results for the reduced cases, the present model is then used to study buckling of the laminated composite plate. Numerical results demonstrate clearly for the first time the roles of size effects, magnetic field, foundation parameters, moduli ratio, geometry, lay-up numbers and sequences, fiber orientations, and boundary conditions. These results could be useful for designing better composites and can further serve as benchmarks for future studies on the laminated composite plates.
The paper deals with the propagation of Rayleigh waves in a nonlocal thermoelastic isotropic layer which is lying over a nonlocal thermoelastic isotropic half-space under the purview of Green-Lindsay model and Eringen's nonlocal elasticity in the presence of voids. The normal mode analysis is employed to the considered equations to obtain vector matrix differential equation which is then solved by eigenvalue approach. The frequency equation of Rayleigh waves is derived and different particular cases are also deduced. The effects of voids and nonlocality on different characteristics of Rayleigh waves are presented graphically.

This paper presents a nonlocal sinusoidal shear deformation beam theory (SDBT) for the nonlinear vibration of single walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The present model is capable of capturing both small scale effect and transverse shear deformation effects of CNTs, and does not require shear correction factors. The surrounding elastic medium is simulated based on Pasternak foundation. Based on the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen, the equations of motion of the CNTs are derived using Hamilton's principle. Differential quadrature method (DQM) for the natural frequency is presented for different boundary conditions, and the obtained results are compared with those predicted by the nonlocal Timoshenko beam theory (TBT). The effects of nonlocal parameter, boundary condition, aspect ratio on the frequency of CNTs are considered. The comparison firmly establishes that the present beam theory can accurately predict the vibration responses of CNTs.
Eringen's nonlocal thermoelasticity theory is used to study wave propagations in a rotating two-temperature thermoelastic half-space with temperature-dependent properties. Using suitable non-dimensional variables, the harmonic wave analysis is used to convert the partial differential equations to ordinary differential equations solving the problem. The modulus of elasticity is given as a linear function of the reference temperature. MATLAB software is used for numerical calculations. Comparisons are carried out with the results in the context of the dual-phase lag model for different values of rotation, a nonlocal parameter, an inclined load, and an empirical material constant. The distributions of physical fields showed that the nonlocal parameter, rotation, and inclined load have great effects. When a nonlocal thermoelastic media is swapped out for a thermoelastic one, this approach still holds true.
This article investigates the free vibration behavior of carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) beams embedded using variational analytical methods and artificial neural networks (ANN). The material properties of layered functionally graded CNTRC (FG-CNTRC) beams are estimated using nonlocal parameters modified power-law with different types of CNT distributions through the thickness direction of the beam. Adopting Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory to capture the small size effects, the nonlocal governing equations are derived and solved using the analytical method. And also, the problem was analyzed using the ANN method. The architecture of the proposed ANN model is 3-9-1. In the experiments, we used 112 different data to predict the natural frequency using ANN. Based on the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen, the equations of motion as well as the boundary conditions of the beam are derived using Hamilton's principle. The classical beam theory is used to formulate a governing equation for predicting the free vibration of laminated CNTRC beams. According to the experimental results, the prediction ability of the ANN model is very good and the natural frequency can be predicted in ANN without attempting any experiments.
This paper presents the analytical solutions for the size-dependent static analysis of the functionally graded (FG) beams with various boundary conditions based on the nonlocal continuum model. The nonlocal behavior is described by the differential constitutive model of Eringen, which enables to this model to become effective in the analysis and design of nanostructures. The elastic modulus of beam is assumed to vary through the thickness or longitudinal directions according to the power law. The governing equations are derived by using the nonlocal continuum theory incorporated with Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The explicit solutions are derived for the static behavior of the transversely or axially FG beams with various boundary conditions. The verification of the model is obtained by comparing the current results with previously published works and a good agreement is observed. Numerical results are presented to show the significance of the nonlocal effect, the material distribution profile, the boundary conditions, and the length of beams on the bending behavior of nonlocal FG beams.
The size-dependent vibration analysis of a cross-/angle-ply laminated composite plate when embedded on the Pasternak elastic foundation and exposed to an in-plane magnetic field are investigated by adopting an analytical eigenvalue approach. The formulation, which is based on refined-hyperbolic-shear-deformation-plate theory in conjunction with the Eringen Nonlocal Differential Model (ENDM), is tested against considering problems for which numerical/analytical solutions available in the literature. The findings of this study demonstrated the role of magnetic field, size effect, elastic foundation coefficients, geometry, moduli ratio, lay-up numbers and fiber orientations on the nonlocal frequency of cross-/angle-ply laminated composite plates.
This article presents a comprehensive model to investigate a free vibration and resonance frequencies of nanostructure perforated beam element as nano-resonator. Nano-scale size dependency of regular square perforated beam is considered by using nonlocal differential form of Eringen constitutive equation. Equivalent mass, inertia, bending and shear rigidities of perforated beam structure are developed. Kinematic displacement assumptions of both Timoshenko and Euler-Bernoulli are assumed to consider thick and thin beams, respectively. So, this model considers the effect of shear on natural frequencies of perforated nanobeams. Equations of motion for local and nonlocal elastic beam are derived. After that, analytical solutions of frequency equations are deduced as function of nonlocal and perforation parameters. The proposed model is validated and verified with previous works. Parametric studies are performed to illustrate the influence of a long-range atomic interaction, hole perforation size, number of rows of holes and boundary conditions on fundamental frequencies of perforated nanobeams. The proposed model is supportive in designing and production of nanobeam resonator used in nanoelectromechanical systems NEMS.
In this paper, a nanobeam connected to a rotating molecular hub is considered. The vibration behavior of rotating functionally graded nanobeam based on Eringen's nonlocal theory and Euler-Bernoulli beam model is investigated. Furthermore, axial preload and porosity effect is studied. It is supposed that the material attributes of the functionally graded porous nanobeam, varies continuously in the thickness direction according to the power law model considering the even distribution of porosities. Porosity at the nanoscopic length scale can affect on the rotating functionally graded nanobeams dynamics. The equations of motion and the associated boundary conditions are derived through the Hamilton's principle and generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) is utilized to solve the equations. In this paper, the influences of some parameters such as functionally graded power (FG-index), porosity parameter, axial preload, nonlocal parameter and angular velocity on natural frequencies of rotating nanobeams with pure ceramic, pure metal and functionally graded materials are examined and some comparisons about the influence of various parameters on the natural frequencies corresponding to the simply-simply, simplyclamped, clamped-clamped boundary conditions are carried out.
Nanobeams are widely used as a structural element for nanodevices and nanomachines. The development of nano-sized machines depends on proper understanding of mechanical behavior of these nano-sized beam elements. Small length scales such as lattice spacing between atoms, surface properties, grain size etc. are need to be considered when applying any classical continuum model. In this study, Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory is incorporated into classical beam model considering the effects of axial extension and the shear deformation to capture unique static behavior of the nanobeams under continuum mechanics theory. The governing differential equations are obtained for curved beams and solved exactly by using the initial value method. Circular uniform beam with concentrated loads are considered. The displacements, slopes and the stress resultants are obtained analytically. A detailed parametric study is conducted to examine the effect of the nonlocal parameter, mechanical loadings, opening angle, boundary conditions, and slenderness ratio on the static behavior of the nanobeam.
