Fully Ceramic Microencapsulated (FCM) fuel is emerging advanced fuel material for the future nuclear reactors. The fuel pellet in the FCM fuel is composed of matrix and a large number of TRistructural-ISOtopic (TRISO) fuel particles which are randomly dispersed in the SiC matrix. The minimum layer thickness in a TRISO fuel particle is on the order of 10-5 m, and the length of the FCM pellet is on the order of 10-2 m. Hence, the heat transfer in the FCM pellet is a multi-scale phenomenon. In this study, three multi-scale heat conduction models including the Multi-region Layered (ML) model, Multi-region Non-layered (MN) model and Homogeneous model for FCM pellet were constructed. In the ML model, the random distributed TRISO fuel particles and coating layers are completely built. While the TRISO fuel particles with coating layers are homogenized in the MN model and the whole fuel pellet is taken as the homogenous material in the Homogeneous model. Taking the results by the ML model as the benchmark, the abilities of the MN model and Homogenous model to predict the maximum and average temperature were discussed. It was found that the MN model and the Homogenous model greatly underestimate the temperature of TRISO fuel particles. The reason is mainly that the conventional equivalent thermal conductivity (ETC) models do not take the internal heat source into account and are not suitable for the TRISO fuel particle. Then the improved ETCs considering internal heat source were derived. With the improved ETCs, the MN model is able to capture the peak temperature as well as the average temperature at a wide range of the linear powers (165 W/cm~ 415 W/cm) and the packing fractions (20%-50%). With the improved ETCs, the Homogenous model is better to predict the average temperature at different linear powers and packing fractions, and able to predict the peak temperature at high packing fractions (45%-50%).

In this paper, the estimation of compressive strength of concrete incorporating fly ash subjected to high temperature is discussed. Ordinary Portland cement and fly ash cement(30% of fly ash) were used, respectively. Water to binder ration ranging from 30% to 60% and curing temperature ranging from $20^{\circ}C{\sim}65^{\circ}C$ were also adopted for the experimental parameters. According to results, at the high temperature, FAC had higher strength development at early age than OPC concrete and it kept its high strength development at later age due to accelerated pozzolanic reaction subjected to high temperature. For strength estimation, Logistic model based on maturity equation and Carino model based on equivalent age were applied to verify the availability of estimation model. It shows that fair agreements between calculated values and measured values were obtained evaluating compressive strength with logistic curve. The application of logistic model at high temperature had remarkable deviations in the same maturity. Whereas, the application of Carino model showed good agreements between calculated values and measured ones regardless of type of cement and W/B. However, some correction factors should be considered to enhance the accuracy of strength estimation of concrete.

At design stage of new motor or when taking remedial action of old motor, a lot of information can be obtained from thermal parameters analysis. This study focused on the temperature rise of TEFC induction motor with respect to various thermal parameters. Frame heat transfer had the most important effect on coil temperature rise. But those of air gap and rotor fan had no effect. This fact shows fan action is more important than fin action in the case of rotor fan. Coil temperature can be more decreased by cooling near the heat sources than any other parts from the results of thermal conductivity and loss tests. Variation of cooling air flow rate and motor volume effects on coil temperature were also tested. These tests suggest that improvement of cooling fan performance is important in reducing the coil temperature rise. Thermal equivalent program was verified by comparison of some experimental results.
In this paper, estimation of the compressive strength of the concrete incorporating blast furnace slag subjected to high temperature was discussed. Ordinary Portland cement and blast furnace slag cement (BSC;30% of blast furnace slag) were used, respectively. Water to binder ratio ranging from 30% to 60% and curing temperature ranging from $20^{\circ}C{\sim}65^{\circ}C$ were also chosen for the experimental parameters, respectively. At the high temperature, BSC had higher strength development at early age than OPC concrete and it kept its high strength development at later age due to accelerated latent hydration reaction subjected to high temperature. For the strength estimation, the Logistic model based on maturity equation and the Carino model based on equivalent age were applied to verify the availability of estimation model. It was found that fair agreements between calculated values and measured values were obtained evaluating compressive strength with logistic curve. The application of logistic model at high temperature had remarkable deviations in the same maturity. Whereas, the application of Carino model showed good agreements between calculated values and measured ones regardless of type of cement and W/B. However, some correction factors should be considered to enhance the accuracy of strength estimation of concrete.

In automotive brake systems, the frictional heat generated can cause high temperature at the interface of rotor and pad which may deteriorate the material properties of the sliding parts and can result in brake fade. Conventionally, a pie-shaped 3-dimentional model is adopted to calculate temperature of ventilated disk using finite element method. To overcome the difficulties in preparing 3D finite element model and reduce the computational time required, the ventilated rotor is to be analyzed, in this study, as an axisymmetric finite element model in which, taking into considerations the effects of cooling passages, a homogenization technique is used to obtain the equivalent thermal properties and boundary conditions for the elements placed at the vent holes. Numerical tests show the proposed procedure can be successfully applied in practice, replacing 3-dimensional thermal analysis of ventilated disk.
Impedance spectroscopy informs electrical properties of materials as accumulated charges, contact status between electrode and organic materials. We carried out impedance spectroscopy of organic light-emitting diodes as ITO/Alq3(60 nm)/Al on temperatures from 10 K to 300 K. The result described Z'-Z" plot, cole-cole plot and dielectric relaxation time τ. Z'-Z" plot means that real and imaginary part of materials in organic and electrode by frequencies and temperature. Z' as real part of impedance by applied frequency depending on temperature shows the plateau in low frequency region as Rs+ Rp and over 100 kHz in high frequency region as Rs. Cole-cole plot shows resistance of materials in equivalent circuit of the device by temperatures. And equivalent circuit and dielectric relaxation could be accomplished by using the complex impedance analysis.
Extreme heavy snowfall episodes have been investigated in case of accumulated snowfall amount larger than 50 cm during the past ten years, in order to understand the association of low-level stability with heavy snowfall in the Yeongdong region. In general, the selected 4 events have similar synoptic setting such as the Siberian High extended to East Sea along with the Low passing by the southern Korean Peninsula, eventually inducing easterly in the Yeongdong region. Specifically moist-adiabatically neutral layer has been observed during the heavy snowfall period, which was easily identified using vertical profiles of equivalent potential temperature observed at Sokcho, whereas convective unstable layer has been formed over the East sea due to relatively warm sea surface temperature (SST) about $8{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ and lower temperature around 1~2 km above the surface, obtained from RDAPS. Difference of equivalent potential temperature between 850 hPa and surface as well as difference between air and sea temperatures altogether gradually increased before the snowfall period. Instability-induced moisture supply to the atmosphere from the East sea, being cooled and saturated by the upper cold surge, would make low-level ice cloud, and eventually move inland by the easterly flow. Heavy snowfall will be enhanced in association with low-level convergence by surface friction and upslope wind against Taebaek mountains. This study emphasizes the importance of low level stability in the Yeongdong region using the radiosonde sounding and RDAPS data, which should quantitatively be examined through numerical model as well as heat and moisture supply from the ocean.
Some abnormal signals diagnostics and analysis through an important equivalent circuits modeling for passive elements under severe accident conditions have been performed. Unlike the design basis accidents, there are inherently some uncertainties in the instrumentation capabilities under the accident conditions. So, the circuit simulation analysis and diagnosis methods are used to assess instruments in detail when they give apparently abnormal readings as an accident alternative method. The simulations can be useful to investigate what the signal and circuit characteristics would be when similar to a variety of symptoms that can result from the environmental conditions such as high temperature, humidity, and pressure condition. In this paper, a new simulator through an analysis of the important equivalent circuits modeling under temperature accident conditions has been designed, the designed simulator is composed of the LabVIEW code as a main tool and the out-put file of the Multi-SIM code as an engine tool is exported to in-put file of the LabVIEW code. The procedure for the simulator design was divided into two design steps, of which the first step was the diagnosis method, the second step was the circuit simulator for the signal processing tool. It has three main functions which are a signal processing tool, an accident management tool, and an additional guide from the initial screen. This simulator should be possible that it could be applied a output signal analysis to some transient signal by variation of the resistance passive elements in the R-L-C equivalent circuit modeling under various degraded conditions in NPPs.
Torsional behavior of concrete pavement slabs due to temperature and moisture effects is constrained by self weight and friction etc, and causes stress as the result. The stress due to humidity variation in the slab is difficult to calculate while that due to temperature variation can easily be calculated by a commercial structural analysis program. Thus, the slab behavior can be predicted more accurately if the humidity effect is converted to equivalent temperature and is used as an input of structural analysis. In this study, a concrete pavement slab was constructed and strains of the slab due to environmental loadings were measured for long-term period. Thermal strains were subtracted from the measured strains by using thermal expansion coefficient of the concrete measured in a laboratory. Shrinkage strains, the remained strains, was supposed as additional thermal strains to calculate imaginary temperature with equivalent effect of the shrinkage by dividing the shrinkage with the thermal expansion coefficient. An existing shrinkage model was modified by considering the self weight and friction to be used in another model which can convert differential shrinkage between top and bottom of the slab to equivalent temperature difference. Addition research efforts on tensile stress reduction according to steady increase in the compressive strains are warranted for more accurate stress calculation.

The resonators made of piezoelectric crystals such as a quartz crystal are widely used. Their frequency-temperature characteristics are of primary importance for their applications to the frequency control devices. The characteristics estimation is useful for determining their design parameters. In the present paper, several types of resonators are numerically analyzed. The numerical solutions are made using 3-D Finite Element Modeling, and the results are compared with the theoretical values whenever they are available. To demonstrate the validity of the present numerical approach, the application is made to the analysis of the plates with some well-established cutting angles. For the resonator stable with temperature change, the cutting angle is important in which the temperature coefficient of the first order is chosen to be zero. The rotated Y-cut plates in thickness-shear mode are considered. The equivalent circuit representation is often used fur describing the characteristics at the electrical terminals which enables the circuit analysis including the effect of temperature change by using the circuit simulators. The equivalent circuit parameters are obtained by fitting the admittance-frequency curve from the finite element analysis.
