  • In this paper a new equivalent static analysis method of dynamic behavior during progressive collapse is presented. The proposed analysis method uses the equivalent nodal load for the element stiffness which represents the dynamic behavior influence caused by the deletion of elements during progressive collapse analysis. The proposed analysis method improves the efficiency of progressive collapse analysis haying the iterative characteristic because the inverse of the structural stiffness matrix is roused in the reanalysis. By comparing the results obtained by this analysis method with those of GSA code analysis and time history analysis, it is shown that the results obtained by this analysis method more closely approach to those of time history analysis than by GSA code analysis.

  • Vehicle is a dynamic system combined with various parameters. Dynamic characteristics of a vehicle can vary with the change of these parameters. To investigate the effect of the design parameter on vehicle handling performance the sensitivity analysis is carried out by the numerical method. The vehicle model is described by equivalent cornering stiffness that considers parameters of suspension and steering system. As the analysis results show the effect on the static and dynamic characteristics of the vehicle system, the sensitivity analysis can be used for synthesis of the design parameters to improve the vehicle handling characteristics at the design stage as well as during the vehicle test under development.

  • Recently, the trend is emerging a variety of irregular tall buildings. It is important to design the building for lateral load according to this trend. Fluid Structure Interaction(FSI) simulation can be performed to understand the vibrations of the structure against dynamic wind loads. In order to make the physical characteristics of the actual structure and the analytical model the same, we studied core inserting equivalent stiffness modeling method. As a result of this analysis, the stiffness of the structure can be set similar to that of the two axes of the structure, and turbulence can be reproduced through the acceleration tendency.

  • For a given structural geometry, the stiffness and damping parameters of the soil and the dynamic response of the structure may change in the face of an equivalent linear soil behavior caused by a strong earthquake. Therefore, the influence of equivalent linear soil behavior on the impedance functions form and the seismic response of the soil-structure system has been investigated. Through the substructure method, the seismic response of the selected structure was obtained by an analytical formulation based on the dynamic equilibrium of the soil-structure system modeled by an analog model with three degrees of freedom. Also, the dynamic response of the soil-structure system for a nonlinear soil behavior and for the two types of impedance function forms was also analyzed by 2D finite element modeling using ABAQUS software. The numerical results were compared with those of the analytical solution. After the investigation, the effect of soil nonlinearity clearly showed the critical role of soil stiffness loss under strong shaking, which is more complex than the linear elastic soil behavior, where the energy dissipation depends on the seismic motion amplitude and its frequency, the impedance function types, the shear modulus reduction and the damping increase. Excellent agreement between finite element analysis and analytical results has been obtained due to the reasonable representation of the model.

  • The earthquake-resistant structural systems have to ensure the sufficient stiffness and ductility for the stability. For those purposes, recently, the performance design concept to increase the degree of absorbed energy level of structures has been proposed. One practical way of the performance design in the spatial structures is to apply the isolation system to boundary parts of roof system and sub-structure to obtain the target performance. So, it is necessary to examine the characteristics of dynamic behavior of spatial structures governed by higher modes rather than lower modes different from the cases of high rise buildings. The objectives of this paper are to develop the equivalent lumped mass model to simplify the analytical processes and to investigate the dynamic behavior of roof system according to the mass and the stiffness of sub-structures as a fundamental study of performance design for the spatial structures.

  • The dynamic characteristics of rotor shafts for electric motors were investigated through the modal tests. The natural frequencies and modal dampings in each manufacturing stage of rotor core assembly were analyzed from the frequency response functions fer all 6 motors of a product model. The deviation of the each individual modal feature was found dependent on the mode shapes as well as the rotor assembly stage. The core stacking itself is known to widen the deviation of modal properties but fellowing processes of rotor bar insertion and swaging are confirmed to reduce the deviation. Finally the equivalent diameter of core part was estimated from the comparison of measured and calculated results to include the stiffness of core part.

  • This paper presents the optimization design technique on the joint stiffness and section characteristic factors of chassis frame, by using beam and spring elements in a given design package. Two correction methods are used for the optimization design of chassis frame. First is the equivalent inertia of moment method in relation to the section characteristic factors of joint zones, which are thickness , width and height of frame channel section. Second is the rotational spring element with joint stiffness of joint zones. The CAE example shows that the relationship of section characteristic factors and joint stiffness can effectively be used in designing chassis frame. In this point, if static and dynamic targets are given, the joint-zone and section characteristic factors of chassis frame intended may be designed and defined by using beam and rotational spring elements.

  • In this paper the method of modeling and optimization for the joint of the vehicle structure is proposed. First it is described that the method of substituting equivalent beam elements to spring elements for the joint. The stiffnesses of the spring elementsare calculated using the section properties of equivalent beam elements. To get required dynamic characteristics section properties of equivalent beam element are set to design variables and optimized. The study shows that joint stiffnesses can be effectively determined in designing vehicle structure.

  • Structural dynamic characteristics and aeroelastic stability of a small-scale bearingless rotor system have been investigated. A flexbeam is one of the most important component of bearingless hub system. It must have sufficient torsional flexibility as well as baseline stiffness in order to produce feathering motion. In the present paper, a cross-shaped composite flexbeam has been proposed for a guarantee of torsional flexibility and flapwise and lagwise bending stiffness. One dimensional elastic beam model was used for the construction of a structural model. Equivalent isotropic sectional stiffness was used in the blade model, and the flexbeam was regarded as anisotropic; which has ten independent stiffness quantities. CAMRAD II has been used for the analysis of structural dynamic characteristics of the bearingless rotor system. Rotational natural frequencies and aeroelastic stability at hovering have been investigated. Analysis result shows that the cross-shaped flexbeam has the rotational natural frequency tuning capacity.
