  • Although the manufacturing time series data clustering technique is an important grouping solution in the field of detecting and improving manufacturing large data-based equipment and process defects, it has a disadvantage of low accuracy when applying the existing static data target clustering technique to time series data. In this paper, an evolutionary computation-based time series cluster analysis approach is presented to improve the coherence of existing clustering techniques. To this end, first, the image shape resulting from the manufacturing process is converted into one-dimensional time series data using linear scanning, and the optimal sub-clusters for hierarchical cluster analysis and split cluster analysis are derived based on the Pearson distance metric as the target of the transformation data. Finally, by using a genetic algorithm, an optimal cluster combination with minimal similarity is derived for the two cluster analysis results. And the performance superiority of the proposed clustering is verified by comparing the performance with the existing clustering technique for the actual manufacturing process image.

  • In semiconductor memory device manufacturing, the capability for high aspect ratio contact (HARC) etching determines the density of memory device. Given that there is no standardized definition of "high" in high aspect ratio, it is crucial to continuously monitor recent technology trends to address technological gaps. Not only semiconductor memory manufacturing companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron but also semiconductor manufacturing equipment companies such as Lam Research, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, and SEMES release annual reports on HARC etching technology. Although there is a gap in technological focus between semiconductor mass production environments and various research institutes, the results from these institutes significantly contribute by demonstrating fundamental mechanisms with empirical evidence, often in collaboration with industry researchers. This paper reviews recent studies on HARC etching and the study of dielectric etching in various technologies.

  • Objectives: The occupational accident rate was officially reported to be 0.77 per 100 workers in 2001 and 0.70 in 2009. The stagnant decrease in accident rate raises a question about the effectiveness of prevention activity because there have been active prevention efforts in the past 10 years. It is also necessary to know the exact status of occupational injuries to direct a prevention strategy. Methods: The author re-analyzed occupational injury statistics to find the reason for stagnant decreases in occupational injuries. Compensated occupational injuries cases were used to calculate fatal and non-fatal injury rates. Injuries from commuting accidents and sports activities were excluded as well as occupational diseases. The number of workers was adjusted to that of full time equivalent employees. Results: The fatal injury rate excluding injuries associated with commuting accidents, sports activities, and occupational diseases decreased from 12.59 in 2001 to 8.20 in 2009. In 2007, 67.5% of accidents that involved being caught in objects, which are mostly caused by machines and equipment, occurred in the manufacturing industry; this type of incident has decreased since 2001. The fatal and non-fatal injury rates in the manufacturing industry have continuously decreased while the rates in the service industry have not changed from 2001 to 2009. Non-fatal injuries might not be reported in many cases. The number of insured workers was underestimated as long working hours were not adjusted for in the reporting system. Conclusion: The occupational fatal injury rate has decreased and the non-fatal injury rate might have decreased during the last 10 years, although the statistics show stagnancy. The decrease of the injury rate was countervailed by various factors. Hence, the current accident rate does not reflect the actual situation of accidents in Korea. Korea needs to develop an improved system to more accurately calculate occupational fatal and non-fatal injury rates.

  • Presented in this paper is a case study of constructing a smart factory for aircraft parts. The construction procedure involves four phases. First of all, its management goals are set, and layout design and simulation are carried out in the conceptual design phase. In the detail design phase, operating scenarios for each module are written out, and probable risks are analyzed by expert groups, and then requirements for developing equipments and subsystems are determined with consideration for element technologies and their integration schemes into the smart factory. In the fabrication and installation phase, system development, equipment fabrication and installation are proceeded in a separate manner, and then integrated together subsequently. In the operation and improvement phase, the factory is stabilized, sophisticated and improved constantly during real operation.

  • The Consultation about Energy Use Plan is prescribed by the Energy Use Rationalization Act. This study calculated the Standard Data for Energy Use Plan of Industry Complex by the 9th Korean Standard Industrial Classification Divisions so that the energy demand reflecting the industrial technology change and characteristics of Manufacturing Divisions would predict. To achieve this aim, analysis on thousands of data in Energy Consumption Report Forms reported from industries which annual consumption of energy exceeds 2,000toe from 2009 to 2010 was carried out. The results showed that calculated overall mean fuel basic unit decrease, electricity basic unit increase and energy basic unit increase compared to that of the Notification No. 2002-130 of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, therefore it means that heat source of energy facilities transferred from fuel to electricity. Also resultingly suggests that the related notification, code etc. are amended as soon as possible.

  • We analyze the global market for flexible electronic circuits, technical considerations, and analyze the market for application areas and regions. In the market analysis of the application field, the display field has the greatest influence in terms of market size and annual growth rate, and the OLE D lighting market size is expected to grow by nearly 50% in 2026. The multilayer flexible electronics, which dependently requires the semiconductor technology, has a larger market size than other structures and its growth rate is relatively large, leading the market and will be further analyzed in depth. The market size of multilayer flexible electronics applied to display field is expected to show an annual growth rate of 21.1% from $2.7 billion in 2017 to $9.8 billion in 2026, and the OLED market is expected to grow by 75.2% during the same periods. Recently, as electronic products have been miniaturized and advanced, and robust installation in a small space is required, companies that preoccupy multilayer structure or rigid flexible electronic circuit technology have an advantage in competitiveness, so many companies are trying to obtain this technology. These efforts are systematically supported by many countries because they can achieve mutual growth by strengthening the competitiveness of the application field and the same industry. In the case of Korea, a support system is established, but it is required to expand and activate it, and to localize manufacturing equipment and materials.

  • Several laboratories worldwide have demonstrated the feasibility of producing amorphous silicon thin film transistor (TFT) arrays at temperatures that are sufficiently low to be compatible with flexible foils such as stainless steel or high temperature polyester. These arrays can be used to fabricate flexible high information content display prototypes using a variety of different display technologies. However, several questions must be addressed before this technology can be used for the economic commercial production of displays. These include process optimization and scale-up to address intrinsic electrical instabilities exhibited by these kinds of transistor device, and the development of appropriate techniques for the handling of flexible substrate materials with large coefficients of thermal expansion. The Flexible Display Center at Arizona State University was established in 2004 as a collaboration among industry, a number of Universities, and US Government research laboratories to focus on these issues. The goal of the FDC is to investigate the manufacturing of flexible TFT technology in order to accelerate the commercialization of flexible displays. This presentation will give a brief outline of the FDC's organization and capabilities, and review the status of efforts to fabricate amorphous silicon TFT arrays on flexible foils using a low temperature process. Together with industrial partners, these arrays are being integrated with cholesteric liquid crystal panels, electrophoretic inks, or organic electroluminescent devices to make flexible display prototypes. In addition to an overview of device stability issues, the presentation will include a discussion of challenges peculiar to the use of flexible substrates. A technique has been developed for temporarily bonding flexible substrates to rigid carrier plates so that they may be processed using conventional flat panel display manufacturing equipment. In addition, custom photolithographic equipment has been developed which permits the dynamic compensation of substrate distortions which accumulate at various process steps.

  • The structure of the machinery industry due to the 4th industrial revolution is changing from precision and durability to intelligent and smart machinery through sensing and interconnection(IoT). There is a growing need for research on prognostics and health management(PHM) that can prevent abnormalities in processing machines and accurately predict and diagnose conditions. PHM is a technology that monitors the condition of a mechanical system, diagnoses signs of failure, and predicts the remaining life of the object. In this study, the vibration generated during machining is measured and a classification algorithm for normal and fault signals is developed. Arbitrary fault signal is collected by changing the conditions of un stable supply cutting oil and fixing jig. The signal processing is performed to apply the measured signal to the learning model. The sampling rate is changed for high speed operation and performed machine learning using raw signal without FFT. The fault classification algorithm for 1D convolution neural network composed of 2 convolution layers is developed.

  • The introduction of smart factory digital twins is a concept that has already been proposed to increase productivity in the manufacturing industry through CPS(Cyber Physics System), and has been applied to specific industrial process stages or partially introduced in stages where simulation is required. However, with the recent development of the 4th Industrial Revolution technology, it is receiving attention again along with XR (Extended Reality) technology. However, because there are not many effective cases, this study analyzed the devices, equipment, and technology of the manufacturing process to build a digital twin applying digital threads and synchronized signals and information to control, remote control, and produce intelligent process automation equipment. A platform capable of analyzing information was proposed and developed. Through this, we designed and built an XR content service platform that can support artificial intelligence and developed it to enable control, remote control, and analysis of production information. A possible platform was proposed and developed. We hope that this study will be helpful in conducting research on many cases, and in the future, expanded research on increasing productivity in each part of the process and production is needed through intelligent models.
