  • Backgrounds and Objectives: A major goat in asthma therapy isto reduce or prevent the inflammatory response associated with bronchial hyperresponsiveness, reversible airway obstruction and airway remodelling. Many studies have shown that eosinophilic infiltration is a prominent feathure in the pathophysiology of asthma. The importance of the Presence of eosinophils in the airways of asthmatics has long been recognized, but the mechanism by which these cells are recruited and retained in the lung are only now being elucidated Production of chemotactic cytokines by bronchial epithelial cells may contribute to the local accumulation of eosinophils in Patients with bronchial asthma. This study was designed to investigate the inhibitory effect of extraction of herbal dicoction, Gamichungsangbohatang(GMCSBHT) on eosinophil chemotactic cytokines. Material and Methods:We used water and 70% ethanol extracts of GMCSBHT and pulmonary epithelial cell lines A549(human type II -like epithelial cells). We estimated cytotoxic effects of GMCSBHT, and estimated the effects of water and 70% ethanol extracts of GMCSBHT on chemokines from prestimulated A549 cells by sandwich ELISA. Results: Chemokines of eotaxin, IL-8 were inhibited by GMCSBHT in dose-dependent manner. And ethanol extract of GMCSBHT has more inhibitory effects on eotaxin, IL-8 than hot water extract. Conculusions: These findings indicate that the supression of the expression of chemokines can be accomplished by GMCSBHT treatment, so GMCSBHT may inhibit the iuflammatory process by eosinophils in asthma.

  • Hypereosinophilic syndrome is a rare hematologic disorder with sustained eosinophilia. Peripheral blood eosinophilia without an underlying etiology and with organs dysfunction has been designated hypereosinophilic syndrome. We report a rare case of symptomatic spinal infiltration of eosinophils at osteolytic T5 in patient with idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome.

  • The recombinant histamine-releasing factor (rHRF) has been reported to induce a secretion of histamine and cytokines from inflammation-related cell types such as basophils and eosinophils. and to function as a growth factor in immune B cells. Recently. decreased expression level of HRF protein was observed in brain of patients with Alzheimer disease and Downs syndrome. suggesting a possible significant role in neurological systems. • This study was based on 3 necropsies of patients affected with Balantidium coli dysentery from two pig farms. Grossly, the lesions involved the large intestine from cecum to rectum. Many variable-sized ulcers were diffusely scattered on the mucosa of the cecum and the colon which were covered with a necrotic, grayish white, slate black, or black membrane. The mucosa affected reddened and swollen. Microscopically, numerous balantidia penetrated In the mucosa of the colon and there they induced necrosis and desquamation of the epithelial cells, where inflammatory cells such as macrophages, neutrophils, eosinophils, lymphocytes and plasma cells were infiltrated.

  • This study was performed to induced in mice infected with Capillaria hepatica and treated cyclophosphamide. The typical changes of mice were observed hematologically. The results were as follows ; 1. The liver/body weight ratios of mice were Increased to thee peak at the 6th week and then gradually decreased. 2. Hematologically, eosinophils were increased to the peak at the 6th week and then gradually decreased.

  • Pityriasis rosea in a 2-month old pig is described. Lesions were confined to the abdomen and groin. They consisted of raised, erythematous papules with distinct borders. Microscopic examination of the lesions revealed a nonspecific dermatitis with acanthosis, moderate infiltration of mononuclear cells and eosinophils in the upper dermis. The known occurrence of the disease will help differentiate the condition from other dermatoses.

  • Objectives: We established a Wistar rat model of asthma caused by toluene diisocyanate (TDI) exposure, and investigated the relationship between TDI exposure concentrations and respiratory hypersensitivity, airway inflammation, and cytokine secretions in animals, to better understand the mechanism of TDI induced occupational asthma. Methods: Wistar rats were exposed to two different concentrations of TDI vapor four hours a day for five consecutive days. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) was performed, and differential leucocytes from the BAL fluid were analyzed. Lung histopathological examination was carried out to investigate the inflammatory status in the airways. Production of cytokines interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-5 productions in the BAL fluid in vivo was determined with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. Results: The TDI-exposed rats exhibited greater airway hypersensitivity symptoms than the control rats. The BAL differential cell count and lung histopathological examination demonstrated that inflammation reactions were present in both the central and peripheral airways, characterized with marked infiltration of eosinophils in the TDI-exposed rats. The cytokine assay showed that IL-4 and IL-5 were predominantly produced in the BAL fluid in vivo. Conclusions: These findings imply that TDI exposure concentrations may greatly affect the occurrence and extent of inflammatory events and that Th2 type cytokines may play an important role in the immunopathogenesis of TDI-induced occupational respiratory hypersensitivity.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to confirm the suppressive effect against asthma and immune regulatory effect of Perillae Fractusher Herbal-acupuncture at Chok-samni(ST36) on ovalbumin-induced asthma in mice. Methods : C57BL/6 mice were sensitized and challenged with OVA(ovalbumin) for 12 weeks. The mice in the PF-HA group were treated with PF-HA at ST36 for the later 8 weeks(3 times a weeks). The mice in the OVA-Needle-Prink(NP) group were treated with single prick with an injection needle at ST36 for the later 8 weeks(3 times a weeks). Results : 1. The lung weight of the mice treated with PF-HA at St36 were decreased significantly compared with that of the control group. 2. The total leukocytes and eosinophils in BALF of the group treated with PF-HA were decreased significantly compared with those of the control group. 3. Eosinophils in BALF and the collagen accumulation in lung of the mice treated with PF-HA were decreased significantly compared with those of the control group. 4. The Concentrations of IgE, IL-4 and IL-5 in BALF, and IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13 in serum of the PF-HA group were decreased significantly compared with those of the control group. 5. The numbers of CD3-/CCR3+, Gr-1+/CD11b+,CD4+, and CD3e+/CD69+cells in lung of the mice group treated with PF-HA at St36 were decreased significantly compared with those of the control group. 6. The mRNA expressions of TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 in lung of the mice group treated with PF-HA at St36 were decreased significantly compared with those of the control group.
