Factors and Countermeasures for Middle School Students' School Related Stress (중학생의 학교 스트레스 요인과 대처방식)

  • This research was conducted to identify the factors that cause school related stress among middle school students, and to develop countermeasures in order to prevent the rebellious acts of middle school students that are on the rise and to pursue after effective guidance measures. To achieve these research objectives, 856 questionnaires were distributed to the two middle schools, situated in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province, and these questionnaires were analyzed, using the SPSS statistical package program. The conclusions were as follows; 1. Perceived factors for School Related Stress Overall average of the perceived degree school related stress factors was a level that goes beyond the normalcy. Stress on the grade was the highest Among these, the average of question items that addressed decrease in grade was the highest of all items followed by class factors, teacher-related factors, friend-related factors, and environmental factors. Accordingly, this research demonstrated that the students feel pressured by the university entrace examination and a school life that is focused on grades. The teacher-related factors and class factors were higher than the average, and others were relatively low. 2. School Related Stress according by Individual All the factors for school related stress were statistically significant difference according to the gender, and teacher-related factors, class factors, and environmental factors were statistically significant difference according to their school years. Their grade made their grade factors statistically significant difference, and the number of friends produced a statistically significant difference result on the teacher-related factors. Wheather they had extra classes or not made a statistically significant difference result on the class factors and environmental factors, and especially the time of doing physical exercises produced statistically significant difference on the environmental factors. 3. Countermeasures for School Related Stress according by Individual As for the countermeasures for school related stress according to the individuality, the active reacting was statistically significant difference according to the gender index, and the student's degree to react passively was statistically significant difference according to their grade. The students in different school years showed statistically significant difference reactions in both passive ways and active ways. students tended to react differently in an unreality index. Lastly, Wheather they had extra classes and physical exercises made then to react passively or actively. When the results are compiled, students are most affected by the stress related to grades, which reflected the university entrance examination oriented school life. An alternative is that the development of educational program that factors in the students' talents and aptitude is needed urgently. Moreover, character and career path related guidance and education are just as important as the academics. Given that the stress factors exert some degree of influence on the countermeasures, it is necessary to block the factors in advance and for all the teachers and parents to make an effort to react actively.

Comparison of the Efficiency between a Remodeled Bubble Generating Pumps for an Aquarium Fish and the Existed Commercial Air Sampler for the Sampling of Ambient Air Asbestos (공기 중 석면농도 분석시 관상어용 기포발생기를 개조한 장치와 기존의 상업용 시료 채취기와의 성능 비교)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to estimate the applicability of regional sample collection of environmental samples. The concentration of asbestos fibers were analyzed with two devices. One was an existing commercial air sampling pump that has been proved to be accurate and exact, and the other is a remodeled pump for sample collection which was made from an electric bubble generator originally designed for aquarium fish. Samples were collected with the two devices under the same environmental conditions and collection equipment. A comparative analysis of the concentration of ambient asbestos fiber was then performed. Methods: Based on previous research, six farmhouses with asbestos fiber slate roofs known to have high concentrations of asbestos fiber were selected. Using the existing commercial air sampling pump and the remodeled electric bubble generator, four to seven samples were collected each day one meter downwind from the edge of the slate roof at high volume (about 4 L/min) and low volume (about 1.4 L/min). The analyzer responsible for sample quality control of asbestos fibers counted the number of asbestos fibers with a phase microscope. Results: The rates of flow change of the existed sampler and the remodeled pump at high volume were 0.82% and 0.17%, respectively. The rates of flow change at low volume were 3.83% and 1.09%, but there was not significant difference. The rates of flow change are within the error range (${\pm}5%$) of OSHA analyzing methods. For the high volume sampler, the average asbestos fiber concentration in the air collected by the existed sampler is 6.270 fibers/L and for the remodeled one 5.527 fibers/L, not a significant difference. For the low volume sampler, the average asbestos fiber concentration in the air collected by the existed sampler is 7.755 fibers/L and for the remodeled one 7.706 fibers/L, not a significant difference. The total area of the slate roof of the targeted farmhouse has an effect on the concentration of asbestos fibers in the air from the existing pump and the remodeled one (p<0.01). Conclusions: The sampling function between the existing commercial pump and the remodeled one shows little difference. Therefore, the remodeled pump is considered a pump with a good availability for collecting ambient air asbestos samples.

  • This paper is aimed at investigating environmental indicators and needs based on residents' perception at Seosan city, Chungnam province. The results can be summarized as follows ; 1) On the average, the environmental level perceived by residents at Seosan city lies somewhat above the middle one, three points. 2) The perceived environmental level in rural areas is hither than that in urban and suburban ones, 3) There is a difference in residents'environmental needs between rural and urban areas. 4) It is proposed that a long-term and systematic environmental planning for Seosan city should be established to improve the environmental level.

Postmodern Ecology and Environmental Justice as Symbiosis and Difference (포스트모던 생태학과 공생과 차이로서의 환경정의)

  • The ecological crisis today can be seen as a result of modernity which has been developed on the Cartesian dualism of subject/object, and of human being/nature, and thereby has huts objectified and subjugated nature through science and technology New environmental ethics hence should be developed urgently against modernity and to overcome the present ecological crisis. This paper aims to consider some implications for ecology and environmental ethics in the post-structurists'arguments struggling against modernity to formulate new frameworks of discourse and politics, and to examine a possibility to theorize environmental justice on the basis of postmodem ecology. For this purpose, this paper first looks on ecological arguments and implications for environmental ethics in post-structuralism, then tries to gain prominent ecological insights, focusing on ethology and 'rhizomatic naturalism'in the philosophy of Deleuze, and finally interprets both bioregionalism as a theory of 'difference' from postmodern point of view and Deleuze's ecology in terms of symbiosis and difference, in order to conceptualize environmental justice.

Introduction for the Necessity and Application Example of the Village-based AWS (마을 단위 AWS 구축의 필요성 및 적용사례 소개)

  • In this study, the necessity for a village unit Automatic Weather System (AWS) was suggested to obtain correct agricultural weather information by comparing the data of AWS of the weather station with the data of AWS installed in agricultural villages 7 km away. The comparison sites are Hyogyo-ri and Hongseong weather station. The seasonal and monthly averaged and cumulative values of data were calculated and compared. The annual time series and correlation was analyzed to determine the tendency of variation in AWS data. The average values of temperature, relative humidity and wind speed were not much different in comparison with each season. The difference in precipitation was ranged from 13.2 to 91.1 mm. The difference in monthly precipitation ranged from 1.2 to 75.4 mm. The correlation coefficient between temperature, humidity and wind speed was ranged from 0.81 to 0.99 and it of temperature was the highest. The correlation coefficient of precipitation was 0.63 and the lowest among the observed elements. Through this study, precipitation at the weather station and village unit area showed the low correlation and the difference for a quantitative comparison, while the elements excluding precipitation showed the high correlation and the similar annual variation pattern.

A Study on the Direction of Middle School Environmental Education Related to Water Shortage Problem (물 부족 문제와 관련된 환경교육 발전 방향에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the direction of how to educate water shortage problem to middle school students. In the reality that many people of the world have been painful of the water shortage problem, Korea is classified as 'water shortage country'. Here, we investigated the awareness of middle school students about the contents related to the water shortage problem by surveying with the questionnaires developed in this study. And we analyzed how water shortage problem appeared in the environmental textbook of middle school. Based on these, we examined the direction of environmental education in middle school on the theme of the water shortage problem. The results of the survey showed that students revealed difference of knowledge and experience, and also revealed difference of knowledge and feeling related to the water shortage problem. The students had the knowledge about water shortage problem but they did not have experience in their real lives. Also, the results of the survey showed that students had attitude of waste in water use, even though they had awareness and knowledge about the importance of water resources. And the students did not have enough knowledge related to the water shortage problem. From the analysis of the textbooks, We found that the contents were not composed to enhance deep understanding of the students about the water shortage problem. Based on the analysis of the results, the directions of middle school environmental education in Korea about water shortage problem were extracted in this research.

Application of Liquid Amino-fertilizer for Greenup Promotion during Spring Season (Greenup 촉진을 위한 액상아미노산비료의 사용)

  • We were investigated turf color and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to affect greenup promotion of 38 cultivar in 5 species for spring season, most popularly used in Korea golf courses. Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.), tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb), creeping bentrgass (Agrostis palustris Huds), perennial ryegrass (Lolium parenne L.) and zoysiagrass (Zoysia spp.) cultivar had higher leaf color for greenup promotion in Ami, Amx and Oligo than Con treatment and there were also significantly difference among treatments. Turfgrass NDVI also showed significant difference among cultivars in species. Spray of Ami, Amx and Oligo has the higher value of turf NDVI than Con. Based on our results, green up fast during spring season may affected much more with application of Ami, Amx and Oligo than Con.

Spring Greenup on Cool Season Turfgrass Cultivars and Species in Spring (한지형 잔디의 종과 품종 간에 봄철 Greenup)

  • Five turfgrass species and 46 cultivars were investigated for difference of spring greenup and living ground cover. Turf color and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) for greenup were investigated between species and cultivars. Turf color and NDVI were showed significantly different among species and cultivars. Turf color was showed significantly different among 20 cultivars of kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.). NDVI was significantly difference among 20 cultivars of kentucky bluegrass and 6 cultivars of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb). The percentage living ground cover was showed significantly different among creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds) cultivars and fineleaf fescue cultivars in spring.

Environmental Corporate Social Responsibility in a Polluting Duopoly and Endogenous Timing Game (오염배출기업의 환경에 대한 사회적 책임과 내생적 시간게임)

  • This study investigates the strategic environmental corporate social responsibility (ECSR) of polluting duopoly when two firms have different production costs and compete with prices. We then examine an endogenous timing game in choosing ECSR and its effects on environmental damage and social welfare. The followings are the main findings: First, sequential choice of ECSR is strategic complements and it provides late adopter advantage irrespective of cost difference. Second, sequential choice of ECSR is the equilibrium of endogenous timing game. In particular, an efficient firm-leading ECSR is the payoff dominance equilibrium when cost difference is significant. Finally, environmental damage and social welfare depend on the social cost of pollution. In particular, an efficient firm-leading ECSR is socially desirable when social cost is high. However, an inefficient firm-leading ECSR increases environmental damage irrespective of social cost and it reduces social welfare when cost difference is significant.

Analysis of Preference of Environmental Image for the Increase and Promotion of Rose Consumption

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the preference of plant environmental images for flower plant consumption. This study came up with a total of four treatments including one image without plants and three images with flower plants (three roses, rose gift, rose garden). We conducted a survey on 104 men and women through the Google (online) survey and analyzed the data. The preference was higher with statistical significance for environmental images with plants than the image without plants. The preference for environmental images of roses was highest in the order of rose gift > rose garden > three roses. As a result of the cross-tabulation analysis, it was found that there was a significant difference in the preference for environmental images of roses according to general characteristics such as educational background and residence type. In terms of educational background, 2-year college graduates showed higher preference for the three environmental images of roses with statistical significance compared to high school graduates, university graduates and masters or higher. As a result of determining the difference in preference according to residential types, residents of multiplex houses showed higher preference for the "rose garden" environment image than residents of detached houses (p < .05). As a result of examining stress and depression in everyday life, 48.1% (the highest) of the respondents answered that they were "under daily stress" and 48.1% (the highest) of the respondents claimed not to be "under much depression". This study investigated the difference in preference according to demographic characteristics and existence of plants, preference in environmental images using roses, correlation with daily stress and depression, and utility of publicity using photographic images of plants.
