The sound insulation performance of eco-friendly loess brick wall (친환경 황토벽체의 차음성능 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Korean traditional houses have been developed in harmony with natural environment and comfortable indoor condition by using the natural resources including building layout, space composition and materials. Originally Korea traditional architectures have used wood lintel constructions and loess walls through the many years. Theses loess have many strength such as highly heat capacity, controling of humidity, a deodorant than any other materials. Nowaday it is recommended to use exterior and interior walls in loess wall to meet the eco-friendly materials to improve our residental environmental. Thus this study aims to research the sound insulation performance of traditional loess brick wall varied with thickness, thermal insulation materials and cavity wall. The sound insulation performance of these loess walls are compared with other masonry wall's and sound insulation performance of th walls were tested in anechoic laboratory to measure the sound transmission loss of these walls. The loess brick wall with 75mm thickness of cavity is shown the sound insulation performance with Rw 57 which is nearly same performances of 1B brick wall and cement 8' block wall, The improving effect of insulation materials is shown in the high frequency bandwidth. Especially, there is improving as much as 11 dB using the extruded poly stylene form(75mm) and poly ethylene film(0.7mm).

Sediment Distribution of the Yeosu Sound on the Southern Coast of Korea Based on the 3.5 kHz Profiles (3.5 kHz 지층단면도에 나타난 여수해만의 퇴적물 분포)

  • The 3.5 KHz seismic survey was carried out for studying the distribution pattern of the unconsolidated sediments of the Yeosu Sound on the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula. Field data originally recorded in analog are converted and processed digitally to recover the high-resolution acoustic profiles. Across the north-south trending channel with the depth of 20~30 m, different seismic facies types are observed in the top section of sediments. The western part is characterized by the continuous high-amplitude subparallel reflectors within which the acoustic turbidity as a token of the presence of gas is commonly observed, whereas the counterpart largely shows poor reflectors and has shallow acoustic basement toward the north. The dissimilarity of the seismic expression across the channel can be interpreted as the result of the change of depositional environment caused by relative sea-level fluctuations of the late-Quaternary. During the last glacial period, the Yeosu Sound was exposed and eroded by the paleo-Seomjin River. By the following rapid rise of sea level, it was covered by the transgressive sand sheet. When the sea level reached near the present position, the muddy sediment has accumulated only in the western part of the Yeosu Sound as its depositional front has moved toward the north. It is partly caused by the asymmetrical tidal current in the Yeosu Sound where the flood near the bottom has stronger current flow and contains more suspended sediments.

Effect of Flame Resistant Treatment on The Sound Absorption Capability of Sawdust-mandarin Peel Composite Particleboard (방염처리가 톱밥-귤박 혼합파티클보드의 흡음성능에 미치는 영향)

  • Sound absorption capability of the flame resistant treated sawdust-mandarin peel composite particleboard was were estimated by two microphone transfer function methods. The weight of flame resistant treated board slightly increased by the treatment. The treatment improved fire retardant performance by decreasing the charred area of flame resistant treated board. Sound absorption capabilities of flame resistant treated sawdust-mandarin peel composite particleboard, in the entire estimated frequency range of 500-6,400 Hz was slightly lower than those of the control specimen. Sound absorption capability of both the control and flame resistant treated sawdust-mandarin peel composite particleboards were higher than that of commercial gypsum boards, being widely used as a sound absorber for ceiling at the estimated frequency.

  • Sound barrier walls are one of the most effective alternatives for reducing environmental noise on roads and railways in the city center. The insertion loss of the sound barrier against road traffic noise is the sum of the sound transmission loss, sound absorption loss, and sound energy reduction due to the diffraction attenuation of the sound barrier. The sound transmission loss of the sound barrier is one of the important factors that determine the insertion loss of the sound barrier and is a basic indicator that determines the performance of the sound barrier. Nevertheless, there is not a separate standard in Korea for measuring the acoustic transmission loss of sound barrier panels. There are only a few conditions in KS F 4770 series that stipulates on the general material of sound barrier panels. This thesis examines the necessity of the acoustic transmission loss measurement and evaluation standards of sound barrier walls, and seeks a measurement method in a free sound field (anechoic chamber) sound receiving room considering the characteristics of sound barrier walls installed in external spaces, unlike indoor building materials. In addition, a single number evaluation method using a reference spectrum was proposed so that the sound insulation effect according to various installation places such as roadside or railroad side can be easily displayed.

  • There have always been dilemmas between development and environmental conservation throughout the world. Gradually environmental contamination threatens sustainable development and conservation. we try to study on the sustainable development with environmental conservation. One of the instruments to get this goal is Environmental Impact Statement. Environmental Impact Statement has now become a standard tool of decision making in Environmentally Sound and Sustainable Development. The objectives of this study is to explore and suggest some suggestions for improvements of EIA. 1. Identify all criteria and standards that apply to physical and social environmental components and dynamics. 2. Giving attention to the purpose of the criterion and standard, with respect to resource use and quality. 3. Demonstrate the relevance legal, technical, and scientific authority by early planning through construction, operation and maintenance phases. 4. Implement rationales and protocols for the documentation of standard analytical methods, location of sampling points and statistical analysis of data. 5. Establish precise protocols by predictions of environmental impact relevant for established criteria and standards. Reviewing these protocols with relevant legal authorities prior to their implementation is important.

Fractography of Sound and Tension Woods of Quercus mongolica by Shear and Bending Stress (신갈나무 정상재와 인장이상재의 전단 및 휨 파면해석)

  • This study has been carried out to understand the fracture characteristics of the tension wood of Quercus mongolica under the shear and bending stress. Macroscopically, the wood fluff in the shear surface appeared more frequently in tension wood than sound wood, and more coarse wood fluffs were observed in 30% than 10% moistured shear surface. In the fractured tension wood from bending stress, more thick and long wood fiber appeared than sound wood. The observation using scanning electron microscope indicated that both sound and tension wood samples from radial shear surface showed the intrawall dominated failure and the fracture surface of the ray parenchyma cell showed the transwall dominated failure. In tangential shear surface, wood fiber surface showed the intrawall failure and short and coarse wood fiber was observed in tension wood. Ray parenchyma cell of sound and tension wood samples showed the transwall failure. The surfaces of tension wood’s ray parenchyma cell were relatively clean. The fractured tension wood from bending stress showed unsharp and flat wood fiber compared with sound wood.

Assessment of Compressive Strength of Granitic Gneiss Using Nondestructive Testing based on Sound Energy (사운드에너지 기반 화강편마암의 비파괴 압축강도 산정)

  • This study provides a method to assess the compressive strength of granitic gneiss using total sound signal energy, which is calculated from the signal of sound pressure measured when an object impacts on rock surface, and its results. For this purpose, many test specimens of granitic gneiss were prepared. Each specimen was impacted using a devised device (impacting a specimen by an initial rotating free falling and following repetitive rebound actions) and all sound pressures were measured as a signal over time. The sound signal was accumulated over time (called total sound signal energy) for each specimen of granitic gneiss and it was compared with the directly measured compressive strength of the specimen. The comparison showed that the total sound signal energy was directly proportional to the measured compressive strength, and with this result the compressive strength of granitic gneiss can be reliably assessed by an estimation equation of total sound signal energy. Furthermore, from the study results it is clearly believed that the compressive strength of other rocks and concrete can be assessed nondestructively using the total sound signal energy.

Technical and Political Approaches for Successful Settling of the Environmental Agriculture System in Korea (한국 환경농업의 성공적 정착을 위한 정책적 및 기술적 접근과제)

  • This study aims to point out the basic strategy of agrotechnical and -political approaches toward successful settling for the environmental agriculture system in Korea. Although environmental agriculture & forestry strategy toward the 21st century and it's action program were released in 1996, some scientist from environmental agriculture and organic agriculture still argue on the errors of it's strategy and action program in terms of environmental sound functions. Especially it's strategy and action program of government did not focus the reduction of fertilizer and pesticide as the matters of weight and importance to reduction of fertilizer and pesticide as the matters of weight and importance to realize an environmental sound agriculture system. And korean organic agriculture gets a point in dispute, because 1) they do not practice of Basic Standard of IFOAM and FAO/WHO Codex draft, and 2) organic farming is defined quite differently from internationally recognized core aspects of organic agriculture. Organic farming, in Korea, is taken to mean the replacement of chemical fertilizer by organic manure and avoidance of agricultural chemicals. In the paper it is discussed the necessity, purpose, effect and consequence of basic standard for korean organic agriculture. The reformation of the certification system and t he direct payment system in environmental agriculture & forestry strategy toward the 21st century and it's action program by government, and on the need of the teaching program and curriculum in high education institution, the breeding program of resistant cultivars, the soil testing for optimum fertilization strategy, the nutrient management program, the declaration for 2020 environemntal agriculture are also discussed.

Comparative proteomic analysis of plant responses to sound waves in Arabidopsis

  • Environmental factors greatly influence the growth, development, and even genetic characteristics of plants. The mechanisms by which sound influences plant growth, however, remain obscure. Previously, our group reported that several genes were differentially regulated by specific frequenciesof sound treatmentusing a sound-treated subtractive library. In this study, we used a proteomic approach to investigate plant responses to sound waves in Arabidopsis. The plants were exposed to 250-Hz or 500-Hz sound waves, and total proteins were extracted from leaves 8 h and 24 h after treatment. Proteins extracted from leaves were subjected to 2-DE analysis. Thirty-eight spots were found to be differentially regulated in response to sound waves and were identified using MALDI-TOF MS and MALDI-TOF/TOF MS. The functions of the identified proteins were classified into photosynthesis, stress and defense, nitrogen metabolism, and carbohydrate metabolism. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the analysis of protein changes in response to sound waves in Arabidopsis leaves. These findings provide a better understanding of the molecular basis of responses to sound waves in Arabidopsis.

Effect of Graphite Intercalation Compound on the Sound Absorption Coefficient and Sound Transmission Loss of Epoxy Composites (그라파이트 인터칼레이션 컴파운드가 에폭시 복합재료의 흡·차음성에 미치는 영향)

  • The sound absorption coefficient and sound transmission loss of graphite intercalation compound (GIC) included epoxy composites were investigated. Epoxy resin was infused into the expanded GIC and the impedance tube method was employed to measure the sound absorption coefficient and sound transmission loss. Scanning electron microscopy photographs showed uniform distribution of the GIC in the epoxy matrix. The surface density of epoxy/GIC (20 wt%) composites decreased about 56% compared to that of pure epoxy. The sound absorption coefficient of composites increased about 3 times at the frequency range of 500~1000 Hz compared to the pure epoxy. The sound transmission loss of composites decreased with increasing the GIC content and it is attributed to the increase of pores in the composites.
