Characteristics of an HTS SMES for Solar Power System

  • A SMES can be a perfect alternative energy storage device to the chemical batteries which are needed by most of the renewable energy supply systems. The chemical battery storage system is so expensive to maintain and causes another environmental problem because they are not recyclable. But, SMES has semi-permanent lifetime and no environmental problems cause it only need coolants which is non flammable, clean and recyclable gas. In order to verify the feasibility of a SMES for the renewable electrical power supply system, electrical characteristics of a test SMES coil with the photovoltaic power system were analyzed in this paper. Simulation results show that we can charge 40 amps of current in test SMES coil using solar power system. The experimental verification will be performed just after development of the peak power tracking system for the solar system.

Remove of Sulphate Ion from Environmental Systems by using AlN Nanotubes

  • The adsorption behavior of the sulphate ($SO{_4}^{2-}$) on the external surface of (5,0), (8,0), and (10,0) zigzag AlNNTs was studied by using density functional calculations. Adsorption energies in the nanotubes are about -8.59, -8.04, -8.60 eV with a charge transfer of 0.59, 0.48, 0.56|e| from the sulphate ion to the nanotubes, respectively. The adsorption energies indicated that sulphate ion can be absorbed strongly on the nanotubes. Therefore, these nanotubes can be used for adsorption of sulphate ion from the environmental systems. It was found that diameter of the AlNNTs has slight role in the adsorption of sulphate ion. The electronic properties of the nanotubes showed notable changes upon the adsorption process.

비이온성 계면활성제의 미셀 콜로이드에 의한 $Ca^{2+}$의 은폐에 대한 연구 (The Study for the Sequestration of $Ca^{2+}$ by the Micelle Colloid of Nonionic Sunactants)

  • The effects of $Ca_{2+}$ ion on the formation of micelle colloid of nonionic surfactants, nonylphenol-(ethylene oxide)n [NP-(EO)n: n= 11, 40, 100) were investigated by the iodine solubilization method. The characteristics of spectra depended on the concentration of $Ca_{2+}$ ion and the number of EO unit. Above CMC(critical micelle concentration), the intensity of the CT (charge transfer) band by the addition of $Ca_{2+}$ ion for the NP-(EO)11 and NP-(EO)40 increased and when decreased and for the NP-(EO)In continuously increased. The increase in the intensity of CT band were attributed to the compactness of micelle in the presence of $Ca_{2+}$ ion. These phenomena may be explained by the fact that the linear ethylene oxide (EO) chain, relatively free to assume various configuration in aqueous solution, could form a pseudo-crown ether structures capable of forming complexes with $Ca_{2+}$ ion.

  • The study was to examine the effect on the thinking of environmental preservation and behavior of dietary life control on discharging behavior of food wastes in household. The data were obtained from 443 homemakers living in Seoul. The statistical techniques used for this study included descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and Multiple Regression Analysis. As the result of analyzing relative effects of factors on discharging behavior of food wastes, for the degree of separation and discharge of food wastes and general wastes, they further actively separated and discharged them when they lived in public house(apartment, villa, tenement house), they had direct charge of dietary life, they had further serious thinking of environmental preservation, and they lived further diligent lives.

Neodymium doped mixed metal oxide derived from CoAl-layered double hydroxide: Considerable enhancement in visible light photocatalytic activity

  • Herein,the Neodymium ion ($Nd^{3+}$) doped CoAl-LDH have been successfully prepared via co-precipitation method and was used as a precursor of Nd-doped CoAl-mixed metal oxides (MMO). The photocatalytic activity of doped LDH and MMO was investigated in the degradation of an azo dye, C.I. Acid Red 14, under visible light irradiation. DRS and PL analysis demonstrated decreasing in the band gap energy and recombination of photo-induced charge carriers of Nd-doped LDH and MMO compared with the pristine CoAL-LDH. Due to significant difference in photocatalytic performance. A power law empirical kinetic model was obtained for predicting the photocatalytic degradation efficiency.

  • 본 연구에서는 항만오염의 주원인의 하나인 오염물질을 검출할 수 있는 센서 개발을 위하여 Viologen 유도체를 사용하였다. 자기조립법을 이용하여 Viologen 유도체를 수정진동자의 금 전극에 수식하였으며, 순환전압전류법을 이용하며 산화 환원 반응 특성과 피크전류의 변화를 관찰하였다. 그리고 벤젠, 인산염, 계면활성제 등의 오염물질에 대한 선택적 특성을 검토하였다.

  • The dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) is a device for the conversion of visible light into electricity, based on the sensitization of wide bandgap semiconductors. The performance of the cell mainly depends on a dye used as sensitizer. The absorption spectrum of the dye and the anchorage of the dye to the surface of $TiO_2$ are important parameters determining the efficiency of the cell. Generally, transition metal coordination compounds(ruthenium polypyridyl complexes) are used as the effective sensitizers, due to their intense charge-transfer absorption in the whole visible range and highly efficient metal-to ligand charge transfer. However, ruthenium polypyridyl complexes contain a heavy metal, which is undesirable from point of view of the environmental aspects. Moreover, the process to synthesize the complexes is complicated and costly. Alternatively, organic dyes can be used for the same purpose with an acceptable efficiency. The advantages of organic dyes include their availability and low cost. We designed and synthesized a series of organic sensitizers containing long wavelength absorption-chromophores for the dye sensitized solar cell. The DSSC composed of Blue-chromophores for the sensitization absorbed long wavelength region which is different also applied into the dye-cocktail (mixing) system. The photovoltaic property of DSSCs organic long wavelength absorption-chromophores were measured and evaluated by comparison with that of individual chromophores.

  • A diesel engine has various merits such as high thermal-efficiency, superior fuel consumption and durability. Therefore the number of diesel engine in the world is increasing. As the seriousness of environmental pollution increases in the world, the method to reduce the noxious materials of $CO_2$, NOx and P.M. is very important subject to correspond to exhaust gas regulations. A new concept, so called premixed charge diesel combustion(PCCI), is focused among the various corresponding manners. In this study, we investigated the mixture formation within the cylinder with injection timing using GTT simulation code and also compared combustion characteristics of PCCI engine with that of commercial diesel engine. From this experiments, it could be found that homogeneous mixture formation was observed according to advance of injection timing and simultaneous reduction of NOx and Soot in injection timing of BTDC 60$^{\circ}$.

자동차산업 모기업-협력업체의 산업안전보건 실태조사 (A Survey Study on Occupational Safety and Health Management Activities in Contractor and Supplier Companies of the Car Industry)

  • This study is aimed to investigate the occupational safety and health management of contractor company in the car industry. The questionnaire survey was conducted on the suppliers and contractors of car industry. Data were collected from 10 contractor companies and their 291 contractor companies(each outside and inside company). From the survey result, it was found that the level of all-round safety and health management is above the average. To strengthen the relationship for safety and health management, it is needed that the supplier company employ the person in exclusive charge to support contractor. Also it is needed the active support of the contractor company and needed that the supplier company employ the person in exclusive charge to support contractor. Finally, Many of the problems associated with the safety and health management by strengthening contractor company responsibility will have to be solved simultaneously.
