  • Most particles capable of reaching the thoracic region of humans are in the size range below 10$\mu$m in diameter. Particles with a diameter smaller than 2.5 $\mu$m are deposited in large amounts in the alveolar region during mouth inhalation. The hazard caused by fine particles depends on their chemical composition and the site within the human respiratory system where they are deposited(Hinds, 1982). Therefore, the concentration of air borne fine particles is an important parameter for the evaluation of the degree of hazard in an atmospheric environment. (omitted)

  • This paper proposes a sensor-fusion technique where the data sets for the previous moments are properly transformed and fused into the current data sets to enable accurate measurement, such as, distance to an obstacle and location of the service robot itself. In the conventional fusion schemes, the measurement is dependent on the current data sets. As the results, more of sensors are required to measure a certain physical parameter or to improve the accuracy of the measurement. However, in this approach, instead of adding more sensors to the system, the temporal sequence of the data sets are stored and utilized for the measurement improvement. Theoretical basis is illustrated by examples and the effectiveness is proved through the simulations. Finally, the new space and time sensor fusion (STSF) scheme is applied to the control of a mobile robot in an unstructured environment as well as structured environment.

  • This study characterized water quality of groundwater and purified water used for drinking water in 30 schools in Gyeongsangbukdo Province. The results of the study showed that 43% of groundwater and 45% of purified water were not suitable for drinking. Among them, microbial contaminations were the most serious problem. In raw groundwater, the exceeding rates of total colony counts was the highest in August (53.6%). Purified water samples showed higher rate of exceeding drinking water standard for total colony counts while showing lower rate of exceeding drinking water standard for total coliforms and fecal coliforms in March and August. Overall, proper managements for microbial contaminations are required for both groundwater and purified water. Furthermore, special attention should toward students not to drink water when groundwater or purified water exceeds the drinking water quality standard.

  • The addition of oxygenates to diesel fuel can significantly reduce particulate emissions. Dibutyl maleate (DBM) and tripropylene glycol methyl ether (TGME) have been identified as possible additives based on their physicochemical characteristics and performance in engine test. However, their potential environmental impacts are unknown. therefore, practical considerations in the selection of an oxygenate additives should include cost, availability, compatibility with engines and fuel, and, particularly, its overall environmental impact. This study was investigated to determine optimal condition for the analysis of potential diesel oxygenates using SPME technique with GC-FID. Four fibers were compared and CAR/PDMS fiber was found to be the most sensitive when used direct-sampling. An absorption time of 30min and a desorption time of 5min provided to be the most sensitivity. The effects of experimental parameters such as the addition of salts, agitation, absorption time, compositon on the analysis were investigated. Analytical parameter such as linearity was also evaluated.

  • This study was conducted for a rapid and simple method using GC/FID and SPME to dectermin gasonline and chlorinated solvents simultaneity. A sodium chloride concentration of 25%(vol/w) combined with such as magnetic stirried, an absorption time of 20min, an extraction temperature of 4$0^{\circ}C$, the volume of minimized 50mL of gaseous phase and a desorption time of 5min pleprovided the greatest sensitivity while maintaining analytical efficiency. Analytical parameter such as linearity was also evaluated. The linear range extend from 30 to 500ppb. The results of chlorinated solvents and gasoline mixed samples showed that solvents have been completely removed from the sample preparation step and more accurated than those obtained by the other methods.

  • The mechanical behavior of a granular material is governed by the applying effective stresses and its skeletal structure which is considered to be the packing of particles giving overall density and degree of anisotropic. Factors that affect soil packing are the particle size, size distribution and shape, and the arrangement of grain contact. Soil particle size and shape are the most important factor, but difficult to quantify. In this study, 2D Fourier analysis is applied to quantify the shape of granular particles. Jumunjin sand was used in the experiment and particle images are captured using an optical microscope. The results showed that three lower order Fourier descriptor are closely related with roundness, sphericity of the granular particle. Also statistical approach is used to determine roundness, form factor, elongation ratio, roughness of Jumunjin sand.

  • This paper proposes a novel maximum power point tracking(MPPT) using a new fuzzy control(NFC) algorithm for robust in insolation variation. Maximum power point(MPP) of solar cell has to achieve for improving output efficiency because it is changed with insolation and temperature. Conventional MPPT controller such as constant voltage(CV), perturbation and observation(PO) and incremental conductance(IC) are researched. But these controller have the problem that is failure to MPP with environment changing. The proposed NFC controller is based the fuzzy control algorithm and able to robust control with environment changing. Also the proposed controller of PV system is modeled by PSIM and the response characteristics according to the parameter variation is compared and analyzed. The validity of this controller is proved through response results.

  • This paper proposes a battery model applicable to Autonomie environment. Also, a various of experiment is implemented for validation. The proposed battery model modifies Randles equivalent circuit and battery parameters are extracted from pulsed current tests. The parameters are two-dimensional function of current and SOC(State of Charge). The battery model is developed in the Matlab/Simulink and is implemented for NiMH Panasonic HHR650D and compared with pulsed current discharge curves. The simulation results validate the accuracy of the proposed model and the model is also tested by adding it on Autonomie for HEV application. Constant current charge/discharge, pulsed current test that can be used to extract battery parameter are performed and test results are used to build up the proposed battery model for Autonomie.

  • The electrical and chemical properties of the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) process for the benzene removal were investigated. The benzene removal was initiated with the applied voltage higher than the discharge onset value. The removal efficiency over 95 % was obtained at approximately 1.6 kJ lite $r^{r-1}$ of the electrical energy density. The increase of the inlet concentration decreased the removal efficiency. However, the benzene decomposition rate increased with the inlet concentration . While the increase of the gas retention time enhanced the removal efficiency, the decomposition rate decreased. Identification of the optimum condition between the decomposition rate and the removal efficiency is required for field applications of the DBD process.s.
