  • The purpose of this study is to provide the legal and institutional guidelines and standards that can be used in the whole river restoration project and to analyze and evaluate the performance of the river project. We constructed an assessment system of four biological taxa that can represent the river environments, namely, evaluation indexes and standards of vegetation and birds, benthic invertebrates and fishes. Specifically, the assessment indicator and criteria of biological characteristics are summarized, so that in case of vegetation community, vegetation diversity, vegetation complexity, and vegetation naturalness can be quantitatively assessed through the combination of three indices. Based on the scientific basis of the advanced techniques, benthic invertebrates, fishes, and birds were proposed to quantitatively evaluate assessment grades according to the classification of biological data. In order to evaluate biological characteristics, which are a part of river environmental naturalness, we proposed a comprehensive biological index and evaluation grade applying the weight of these four biological taxa, and it clearly reflects the characteristics of river environment in test bed.

  • With the development of technology and the advancement of weather forecasting models and prediction methods, higher performance weather forecasting software has been developed, and more precise and accurate weather forecasting is possible by performing software using supercomputers. In this paper, the weather forecast model used by six major countries is investigated and its characteristics are analyzed, and the Korea Meteorological Administration currently uses it in collaboration with the UK Meteorological Administration since 2012 and explains the GloSea However, the existing GloSea was conducted only on the Meteorological Administration supercomputer, making it difficult for various researchers to perform detailed research by specialized field. Therefore, this paper aims to establish a standard experimental environment in which the low-resolution version based on GloSea6 currently used in Korea can be used in local systems and test it to present the localization of low-resolution GloSea6 that can be performed in the laboratory environment. In other words, in this paper, the local portability of low-resolution Globe6 is verified by establishing a basic architecture consisting of a user terminal-calculation server-repository server and performing execution tests of the software.

  • The purpose of this study is to assess the degree of vegetation recovery such as the vegetation change and the effect of artificial restoration measures according to the number of years since the restoration works at the damaged Jungbong and Nuebong area in Mudeungsan National Park. We set up a total of 21 survey areas including 11 monitoring areas to analyze the flora, relative dominance, species diversity, and similarity in the restored site after relocation of Zungbong army base in 1996 and the restored site after the demolition of Neeebong telecommunication facility in 1999 and 10 control areas in the adjacent natural forest to assess the vegetation recovery in the restored sites and the nearby natural forest. The Mean Similarity Index of seed composition was relatively low at 3.5% in the Jungbong restoration site 17 years after the restoration, and the height of shrub layer, in which azaleas and furred azaleas appeared, recovered to the level of 82.6%. We concluded that it is necessary to continue monitoring the restored sites to develop the recovery assessment method and recovery work technology for sub-alpine areas in Mudeungsan National Park and other national park areas.

  • This study aims to analyze cold air characteristics in the watershed areas and to suggest strategies for utilizing them in urban ventilation corridor plans. For this purpose, the Jungnangcheon watershed and Uijeongbu-si in the northern part of Gyeonggi province, and Anyangcheon watershed as well as Yangjaecheon Tancheon watershed and Gwacheon-si in the southern part were selected as study areas. We used KALM (Kaltluftabflussmodell), a cold air simulation model developed in Germany and identified both the cold air flow and the height of cold air layer generated during 6 hours at night. Uijeongbu City is located on the main stream of the Jungnangcheon watershed, and the local cold air from the southern outskirts is an important part of Uijeongbu-si's overall ventilation corridor planning. In addition, the cold air generated in the vicinity of Mt. Sapae flows into the central business district near the city hall and plays a major role in regulating the thermal environment of the city. But, the cold air flows in the eastern part of Uijeongbu-si was not smoothly. The cold air flow generated in the east of Gwanak Mountain and in the west of Cheonggye Mountain was the most active in the northern part of Gwacheon-si. This flow is also a major ventilation corridor in Anyangcheon watershed as well as Yangjaecheon Tancheon watershed. But, the southern part where the cold air flow is not smooth is planed to be developed as 'Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town Public Housing District', so rapid development is expected in the future. Hence, it is suggested that an additional ventilation corridor plan should be established based on the detailed local wind flow analysis.

  • Floating platforms made of PE (PolyEthylene) are often located in shallows of seas, rivers or lakes. They are widely used for marine pensions, marine pontoons, marine bridges, etc. These products are characterized by good flexibility, recyclability, chemical resistance and weatherability with corrosion resistance. Existing PE floating platforms have a simple structure in which one pipe is fastened to one bracket, but this has limited application, even if a user modifies the arrangement. Therefore, we developed a structure that allows buoyancy pipes of various sizes to be fastened to one bracket and verified the structural safety of the product using the finite element method. From the results of structural analysis for buoyancy pipes of different diameters, the maximum stress ratio was 0.78 compared with allowable criteria of 1.0, which represented sufficient safety for a model with 500 mm diameter pipes. Based on the results of this study, further research to evaluate the structural safety of various floating platforms can be carried out in the further; it will also be necessary to establish related evaluation criteria.

  • This paper shows the numerical prediction of the change in oil outflow rate according to the orifice shape of a damaged ship by using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis method. It also provides discharge coefficients for various orifice shapes to be used in theoretical prediction approaches. The oil outflow from the model ship was analyzed using a multiphase flow method under the condition that the Froude and Reynolds number similitudes were satisfied. The present numerical results were verified by comparing them with the available experimental data. Along with the aspect ratio of the orifice and the wall thickness of the cargo tank, the effects of the orifice shapes defined by mathematical figures on the oil outflow were investigated. To consider more realistic situations, the investigation of the ef ect of the crushed iron plate around the damaged part was also included. The numerical results confirmed the change in oil outflow time for various shapes of the damaged part of the oil tank, and discharge coefficients that quantify the viscous effects of those orifice shapes were extracted. To verify the predicted discharge coefficients, they were applied to an oil spill estimation equation. As a result, a good agreement between the CFD and theoretical results was obtained.

  • The construction of new renewable energy facilities is steadily increasing every year. In particular, the offshore wind farm market, which has abundant development scalability and a high production coefficient, is growing rapidly. The southwest sea has the highest possible offshore wind power potential, and related projects are to be promoted. This study presents a basic design procedure by the EUROCODE and considers structural safety in the development of an effective of shore wind foundation in the clay layer. In a previous study, the wind power generator of 5MW class was the main target, but the 8MW of wind turbine generator, which meets the technical trend of the wind turbine market in the Southwest sea, was selected as the standard model. Furthermore, a foundation that fulfills the geological conditions of the Southwest sea was developed. The structural safety of this foundation was verified using finite element method. Moreover, structural safety was secured by proper reinforcement from the initial design. Based on the results of this study, structural safety check for various types of foundations is possible in the future. Additionally, specialized structural design and evaluation guidance were also established.

  • Ship and bridge structures are a type of long box-shaped structure, and resistance to vertical bending moment is a key factor in their structural design. In particular, because box girders are repeatedly exposed to irregular wave loads for a long time, the continuous collapse behavior of structural members must be accurately predicted. In this study, plastic collapse behavior, including buckling according to load changes of the box girder receiving pure bending moments, was analyzed using a numerical analysis method. The analysis targets were selected as three box girders used in the Gordo experiment. The cause of the difference was considered by comparing the results of the structural strength experiment with those of non-linear finite element analysis. This study proposed a combination of the entire and local sagging shape to reflect the effect of the initial sagging caused by welding heat that is inevitably used to manufacture carbon steel materials. The procedures reviewed in the study and the contents of the initial sagging configuration can be used as a good guide for analyzing the final strength of similar structures in the future.

  • The objective of this paper was to investigate the potential of road-crossing structures as biological corridors that can overcome wildlife habitat fragmentation caused by road construction. Snow tracking on animal trace adjacent to and under bridges, underpasses, and culverts of eight rural highways in Korea was carried out. A total 89 structures were monitored and the results follow. First, the probability of road crossing increases with the increasing cross sectional size of crossing structures. Second, small to medium sized carnivores such as raccoon dog, leopard cat, and Siberian weasel use all types of structures. Finally, water deer, or large herbivore crossed only under bridges. Consequently, further studies are necessary to identify suitable types of road crossing structures that can mitigate the probability of road-kills and habitat fragmentation of water deer.

  • In this study, by using the international standards ISO TS 16774, Part 2 Test method for chemical resistance as a quality control method of injection type repair material used for leakage crack of underground concrete structure, the performance requirement against of chemical environment of underground concrete structures for repair materials was tested. For this testing 3 types for each of the 2 classes of repair materials(synthetic rubber, cement), with a total of 9 types repair materials, were selected and examined. As a result, the test results showed that the smallest performance deterioration by the change in the mass was with the synthetic rubber(RG) type as opposed to the cement type system, showing that the synthetic rubber type had the strongest relative resistance to chemical exposure. Furthermore, it is necessary to investigate the material with high resistance to chemical substances and to examine the material which can increase resistance to sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride in cement system. These results can be used as a basic index for the selection of repair materials with the strongest resistance to chemical environment found in concrete structures. In addition, it is expected that the test results derived in this study can be used as reference data that can be reflected in the quality improvement of the maintenance material to be developed later.
