Attribution of Cortical Granules to Formation of Fertilization Envelopes and Polyspermy Block in Urechis unicinctus

  • Cortical reaction and polyspermy block are well defined in most marine invertebrates. In Urechis species, the function of cortical granules (CGs) is not yet known, and there is controversy on whether the cortical reaction occurs, or the fertilization envelope (FE) is attributed to CG releases or functions to prevent polyspermy. This study was carried out to determine the cortical reactions and functions of the FE in Urechis unicinctus. Artificial insemination of the eggs revealed that CG release occurred to give rise to perivitelline space (PS) into the final FE. Both PS and final FE effectively blocked polyspermy. The final FE was accomplished within 10 min after sperm-egg initial binding. No massive release of CGs occurred within the early phase of 5 min after the initial binding, initially and the PS seemed to playa role to prevent polyspermy. The CG massively released its content into the PS in late phase of FE formation, and differentiated PS into five intermediate layers. The layers opened into each other by anastomosis, so that the final FE consisted of two layers, the inner layer ($15{\mu}m$ in thickness) and the outer layer ($1{\mu}m$ in thickness). The outer layer derived from vitelline layer and the inner layer consisted of PS and CG secretions. Immunofluorescence and confocal laser microscopy revealed that the spermatozoon took up residence in the egg cortex during FE formation and successive meioses of the fertilized egg. These results suggest that both PS and final FE of U. unicinctus were equivalent to the early and late block, respectively, of other marine animals.

상한 융합 변수를 갖는 단선형제약 오목함수 최소화 문제의 해법 (An Algorithm for the Singly Linearly Constrained Concave Minimization Problem with Upper Convergent Bounded Variables)

  • 본 논문에서는 한 개의 선형 제약식 하에서 의사결정변수가 상한 값을 갖는 오목 함수 최소화 문제를 다룬다. 제시된 분지 한계 해법은 단체를 분할 단위로 사용하였다. 오목함수를 가장 단단하게 하한추정하는 볼록덮개함수를 단체 상에서 유일하게 구할 수 있기 때문이다. 분지가 일어날 때마다 후보 단체로부터 1 차원 낮은 2 개의 하위 단체들이 생성된다. 이 때 후보 단체에 포함되어 있던 가능해 집합은 각각의 하위 단체로 분할된다. 한계 연산 절차는 선형인 볼록 덮개 함수를 목적 함수로 하는 선형계획법을 부문제로 정의하고 해를 구한다. 부문제의 최적 목적함수 값으로부터 최적 오목목적함수의 하한과 상한을 갱신하고, 원문제의 최적해를 포함하지 않는 단체들을 고려 대상에서 제외시킨다. 본 해법의 최대 장점은 하위 단체로 분할될수록 부문제들의 크기가 점점 작아진다는데 있다. 이것은 한계 연산의 계산량이 줄어든다는 것을 의미한다. 본 연구의 결과는 배낭 제약식 유형의 제약식 하에서의 오목 함수 최소화 문제의 해법을 개발하는데 응용될 수 있을 것이다.

사질토에 시공된 앵커토류벽의 토압분포에 관한 연구 (Earth Pressuroes of Tieback Walls in Sand)

  • 사질토 지반에 시공된 앵커토류벽의 설 설계하중을 결정함으로서 토류벽의 설계에 있어 가장 기본적이고 필수적인 요소택에 있다. 앵커토류벽에 작용하는 토압분포는 배성, 흙의 아칭 효과 등에 따라 크게 변하 토류벽에 작용하는 토압분포의 가정은 크 한 직사각형 분포의 겉보기토압이 적용되 본 연구에서는 실물크기의 앵커토류 Function을 이용하여 토류벽에 작용하는 토압분포를 시공단계별로 산정하여 설계에 이용되는 토압 분포와 비교하였다. 또한 앵커 토류벽의 설계에 적용되는 Rankine 토압분포를 이용하는 Canadian Geotechnical Society 방법과 TerBaghi와 Peck이 제안한 겉보기토압을 이용한 설계방법을 현장시험 결과와 비교하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결론으로는 앵커 설계하중, 최대 휨모멘트의 산정 방법에 있어 30% 정도의 안전율을 고려할 때 Tereaghi 와 Peck 토압을 이용한 단순보 힌지법이 Rankine의 주동토압보다 적합하다는 사실을 입증하였다.

비선형 피로손상 모델을 이용한 복합재 피로수명 평가 (Composites Fatigue Life Evaluation based on non-linear fatigue damage model)

  • 복합재료의 피로수명을 평가하는 것은 여러 가지 파손모드와 파손모드 간의 강호작용 때문에 복잡하다. 본 논문에서는 현상론적인 모델(비선형 강도저하 모델)을 이용하여 피로수명과 잔류강도를 예측할 수 있는 방법을 제시하였다. 잔류강도를 하중 사이클 수와 피로응력의 함수로 가정하였으며, 계산에 필요한 모델변수(강도저하 파라미터, 피로수명형상 파라미터)를 피로수명의 함수로 가정하였다 임의로 배열된 하중 스펙트럼 상에서 응력수준에 따른 모델 매개변수를 구하기 위해 S-N 선도를 이용하였고, 상이한 응력비에 대하여 전술한 매개변수를 Goodman식의 보정을 통하여 계산하였다(피로선도). 임의의 하중이력 후의 잔여강도 분포를 2모수 weibull 함수로 표현하였다.

  • 산란강도의 변동에 따른 통계적 특성은 능동소나의 성능에 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라, 주요 산란과정을 이해하는 측면에서 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 천해에서 측정한 해저면 후방산란 신호의 통계적 특성 분석에 대한 내용을 기술하였다. 천천히 움직이는 30kHz의 실험용 소나로 해저면에 대한 자료를 수집하였다. 신호의 진폭변화에 대한 시${\cdot}$공간 상관함수를 계산하였다. 또한, 넓은 빔과 좁은 빔 신호의 포락선에대한 분포함수와 오경보 확률을 계산하고, 이론 모델과 비교를 시도하였다. 분석 결과에서 이동음원에 의한 해저면 후방산란 변동의 통계적 특성은 고정된 음원의 경우와 다른 특징을 나타냈다.

Effects of Stud Spacing, Sheathing Material and Aspect-ratio on Racking Resistance of Shear Walls

  • This study was carried out to obtain basic information on racking resistance of shear walls and the factors affecting racking resistance of shear walls. Shear walls constructed by larch lumber nominal 50 mm × 100 mm framing and various sheathing materials were tested by applying monotonic and cyclic load functions. Shear walls with various stud spacing such as 305 mm, 406 mm, and 610 mm were tested under both of monotonic and cyclic loads and shear walls with various aspect (height-width) ratios were tested under cyclic load functions. The effect of hold-down connectors in shear walls was also tested under cyclic load functions. Racking resistance of shear walls has very close linear relation with stud spacing and width of shear walls. The ultimate racking strength of shear walls was reached at around or before the displacement of 20 mm. It was proposed in this study that the minimum racking strength and minimum width for shear wall be 500 kgf and 900 mm, respectively. Load-displacement curves obtained by racking tests under monotonic load functions can be represented by three straight line segments. Under cyclic load functions, envelope curves can be divided into three sections that can be represented by straight lines and the third section showed almost constant or decreasing slope.

PbS Quantum-dots in Glasses

  • PbS QDs in glasses have attracted much attention due to the potentials for near-infrared applications. Growth of PbS QDs in the glass is discussed and size of PbS QDs formed in the glass can be tuned by varying the thermal treatment conditions. Hyperbolic-band approximation and four-band envelope function provide good simulation of the exciton energies of PbS QDs. Absorption and photoluminescence of PbS QDs was tuned into $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$ wave-length regime with large full width at half maximum photoluminescence intensity (>160 nm). Photoluminescence intensity of PbS QDs in the glasses was closely related to size of quantum dots, temperature, excitation and defects. Decrease in temperature shifted the photoluminescence bands to shorter wavelength and switched the photoluminescence from darkened state and brightened state.

Enterobacter cloacae MG82에 의한Triphenylmethane흡수 특성과 탈색효소의 세포내 위치

  • Triphenylmethane was decolorized rapidly by enterbacter cloacae MG 82 at initial reaction time. The spheroplast showed higher activity of triphenylmentane decolorization than that of intact cell suspension. The outer part of the bacterial cell envelope and the peptidoglycan are important for the function of transport barrier of triphenylmethane. In intact cell, decolorization activity was higher at 37$\circ $C than at $\circ $C, indicating that triphenylmethane decolorization is due to the enzyme reaction. Culture filtrate showed no decolorization activity, while cell-free extract appeared high activity of 1.45 units, clearly showing that decolorization activity was due to the cell-free extract. Comparing decolorization activities of cell fractions, it was found that decolorization activity was located at the compartment of cytoplasmic membrane. The enzyme activity was also shown to be Mg$^{++}$-dependent. The optimum pH and temperature of enzyme activity were 7.0 and 50$\circ $C, respectively. The thermostability of this enzyme at 35$\circ $C was kept to 58% for 3 hours.

$Al_0.3Ga_0.7As$/GaAs 다중 양자우물 적외선 광검출기 구조의 Photoreflectance 연구 (A Study on the photoreflectance chracterization of $Al_0.3Ga_0.7As$/GaAs multi-quantum well infrared photodetector structures)

  • We used the photoreflectance spectroscopy for characterization of the infrared photodetector structure we GaAs/$Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}As$ multi-quantum well (MQW) structures grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) method. Energy gap related transitions in GaAS and AlGaAs were observed. The Al composition(x) was determined b Sek's composition formula. MQW related transition energies were identify the transitions, the experimentally observed energies were compare with results of the envelope function approximation for a rectangular quantum well.

Stochastic response spectra for an actively-controlled structure

  • A stochastic response spectrum method is proposed for simple evaluation of the structural response of an actively controlled aseismic structure. The response spectrum is constructed assuming a linear structure with an active mass damper (AMD) system, and an earthquake wave model given by the product of a non-stationary envelope function and a stationary Gaussian random process with Kanai-Tajimi power spectral density. The control design is executed using a linear quadratic Gaussian control strategy for an enlarged state space system, and the response amplification factor is given by the combination of the obtained statistical response values and extreme value theory. The response spectrum thus produced can be used for simple dynamical analyses. The response factors obtained by this method for a multi-degree-of-freedom structure are shown to be comparable with those determined by numerical simulations, demonstrating the validity and utility of the proposed technique as a simple design tool. This method is expected to be useful for engineers in the initial design stage for structures with active aseismic control.
