Population-level learning has traditionally been used to provide an explanation for the underlying mechanism of industry change. But it has yet to examine the impact on strategic decisions such as market entry. This conceptual paper aims to provide an insight into how population-level learning affects entry likelihood by acting as a tool for interpreting population-level changes. We study this in the context of the fast-paced mobile gaming industry where population-level information is salient and develop a set of propositions with regard to the likelihood of entry.
We study the asymptotic behavior of the maximum partial likelihood estimator in the Cox proportional hazards model in the presence of nuisance parameters when the entry of patients is staggered. When entry of patients is simultaneous and there is only one regression parameter in the Cox model, the efficient score process of the partial likelihood is martingale and converges weakly to a time-chnaged Brownian motion. Our problem is to get a similar result in the presence of nuisance parameters when entry of patient is staggered.
This paper uses social network theory and the internationalization process model (IPM) to determine how external network linkages influence the location choices of multinational enterprise from emerging economies (EMNEs); specifically, whether past alliance experience influences location choices and its impact on the subsequent entry of MNEs from emerging economies. This paper applies survival analysis using initial and secondary investments from 2,000 Chinese A-share listed companies that entered 90 countries between 1997 and 2018 to analyze both the initial and subsequent entries of Chinese outward foreign direct investments (OFDIs) in major host countries. The findings indicate that an MNE's previous experience with a company from a particular country will increase the likelihood of an initial investment in that country. Previous alliance experience may accelerate the foreign investment process of EMNE and stimulate firms making a commitment to a position in a foreign network, regardless of cultural distance and stage of internationalization. Alliance before initial investment may increase the likelihood and speed of entering a host country as wholly owned subsidiaries and that network linkages not only significantly influence the internationalization process of small and medium-sized enterprises, as indicated by the IPM, but also that of large listed firms.
The primary focus of this study is to examine the characteristics of the asset poor and to empirically investigate those factors affecting the likelihood of the asset poor's poverty exit and entry. The 2nd wave through 8th wave data from KLIPS were used for analysis. The asset poverty lined of 50% of the household net asset was set up so that households below 50% are classified as the asset poor. The characteristics of the asset poor were examined in a static manner by analyzing only the 8th wave KLIPS data. To investigate those factors affecting the likelihood of asset poor's poverty transferal with a dynamic perspective, the authors employed two survival analysis methods, the life table analysis and the Time-dependent Cox regression analysis. Based on the findings, some recommendations were made for future policy efforts to support the asset poor and for the current poverty policies as well. In specific, if the 'Individual Development Account' is to be initiated in the future, it would be essential to build a systematic model to utilize accumulated asset by enhancing job competencies and ability to gain a decent job.
The purpose of this study is analyze the pattern and factors affecting the shelter exit and the patterns of homeless women in Korea. For this study, survey data were collected from 139 sheltered homeless women in Seoul in May of 2007. And respondent's exit time and exit pattern from the shelter were investigated through administration data of shelter in December of 2008. Life table analysis, Cox-proportional hazard analysis and competing risk survival analysis were employed in order to analyze data. The major findings were as follows. First, life table analysis shows that the exit ratio of homeless women started to fall sharply in 24 months from entry into shelter. Second, subjective health status, ratio of the homeless in social network and shelter entry with children affected the likelihood of shelter exit of homeless women. Third, age, subjective health status, depression and shelter entry with children affected the likelihood of positive exit. And ratio of the homeless in social network affected the likelihood of negative exit. Based on these findings, this study implied the introduction of case management service concerning individual shelter exit plan and policy for residential stability of homeless women.

This study examines the effects of exporter agglomeration on purely local firms' decision to undertake internationalization and the resultant performance enhancement from internationalization using propensity score matching and difference-in-differences approach. We find that the likelihood of starting to export is higher when purely local firms are located in a region with a higher level of exporter agglomeration, as positive externalities allow them to overcome insufficient internal resources and reduce the large initial foreign market entry costs. We also find that newly exporting firms are more likely to experience greater performance enhancement from exporting when they are locate in a region with a lower level of exporter agglomeration.
Unlike in the past, where the expression of the form was given a priority, with the widening of the scopes of the designs, the proportion of design education institution curricula targeting user experience and the application of technology is continually and gradually increasing. Open source microcontroller boards such as Arduino have initiated attracting attention as a countermeasure against these changes. These prototyping tools have many advantages for the diversification of expression and design verification in the design field and therefore have a high likelihood of being introduced into many design education institutes; however, the tools act as high entry barriers for design students who lack engineering knowledge. Although various educational content and tools have been developed to address the issue of barrier, existing solutions remain insufficient as alternatives for the purpose of activation. In this study, we investigated the present state of related education content and conducted a pilot workshop using a prototype microcontroller board with simplified coding. We intend to use the results of this investigation to develop study material for design education. We started by conducting a survey regarding the pre-university education situation. It was observed that engineering education opportunities are insufficient and the problem of mutual application between educations due to course-based education was not realized. We also analyzed the characteristics of simplified training tools using the microcontroller to establish a direction for educational design and conducted a pilot workshop using the microcontroller toolkit with a simplified coding process based on this content. Students who lack a basic knowledge of engineering technology received instruction, and after completing minimum preliminary training, they proceeded to practical exercises that involved utilizing the toolkit. Through this process, we identified the need for a simple-type microcontroller board with low-complexity for use in educating students majoring in design. We also identified some obstacles that serve as barriers to entry of utilizing microcontroller board. Based on these results, we propose several functional requirements and teaching guidelines for prototyping toolkits for design education.
This study examines a casaul relationship between depression and welfare transitions of the National Basic Likelihood Protection Program. From a social selection perspective, prior high levels of depression are likely to select people into welfare or serve as a barrier to leaving welfare. From a social causation perspective, entering or exiting welfare can change the levels of depression. These hypotheses were tested using KOWEPS(Korean Welfare Panel study) 2005~2007. The results are as follows. First, entering welfare clearly increases the levels of depression. The increased economic stress resulting from falling into poverty seems to play a major role in the negative effect of welfare entry. Second, exiting welfare does not decrease the levels of depression. However, when welfare exits are classified into distinctive categories, welfare exit combined with concurrent poverty exit is likely to decrease the levels of depression. Third, high levels of depression clearly increase the probability of entering welfare regardless of the prior poverty status. Fourth, high levels of depression do not decrease the probability of exiting welfare, but rather increase the probability of an administrative disentitlement which leads to even worse economic conditions after exiting welfare. One implication of these findings is that negative policies such as time limit and strengthening sanctions can increase the number of welfare cyclers who are able-bodied but mentally weak.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences of the factors affecting the entry of depression by generations and to present a practical strategy for preventing of depression by life-cycle. For this purpose, we analyzed the factors influencing the depression of adults, middle-aged and elderly people through the discrete-time hazard model. The results of this study are as follows: First, the lower the self-esteem, the lower the income satisfaction and the family satisfaction people have, the higher the likelihood of entering the depression they have. In addition, age, educational level, health status, presence of chronic diseases, employment status, regional area, and leisure life satisfaction were variables that showed difference by generation. In the case of adulthood(aged 20 ~ 39), unemployed persons are more likely to enter the depression than younger workers. On the other hand, the middle-aged(40 ~ 64 year olds) are more likely to enter the depression if they are older, have poor health status, have no chronic disease, and have low leisure satisfaction. Finally, older people(aged 65 and over) are more likely to enter the depression when the education level is higher, the health condition is worse, and the leisure satisfaction is lower. If they lived in an urban and rural complex, they are more likely to enter the depression. Based on these results, it is necessary to establish a support plan reflecting the characteristics revealed by generations in order to prevent the entry of depression.

We propose an adaptive method for detecting plagiarized pairs from a large set of source code. This method is adaptive in that it uses an adaptive algorithm and it provides an adaptive threshold for determining plagiarism. Conventional algorithms are based on greedy string tiling or on local alignments of two code strings. However, most of them are not adaptive; they do not consider the characteristics of the program set, thereby causing a problem for a program set in which all the programs are inherently similar. We propose adaptive local alignment-a variant of local alignment that uses an adaptive similarity matrix. Each entry of this matrix is the logarithm of the probabilities of the keywords based on their frequency in a given program set. We also propose an adaptive threshold based on the local outlier factor (LOF), which represents the likelihood of an entity being an outlier. Experimental results indicate that our method is more sensitive than JPlag, which uses greedy string tiling for detecting plagiarism-suspected code pairs. Further, the adaptive threshold based on the LOF is shown to be effective, and the detection performance shows high sensitivity with negligible loss of specificity, compared with that using a fixed threshold.
