  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the current status of and suggest future improvement practices for cultural heritage education in primary school. We analyzed a primary school textbook for each of five subjects (Korean, social studies, music, art, physical education), surveyed ten teachers with cultural heritage education experience, and analyzed the results. Based on the results, we made the following five suggestions: First, the goal of cultural heritage education should be expanded to foster citizenship. Second, in cultural heritage education, it is necessary to discuss what should be included in the educational content and to organize the content systematically in connection with the student environment, local community environment, and subject content. Third, cultural heritage education should be linked with sustainable development so that cultural heritage can be passed on from the present generation to future generations. Cultural heritage has characteristics, such as universal values of humanity, that transcend national boundaries, regional identities, dialogue and understanding between civilizations, and sources of creativity, and thus serves as the foundation for sustainable development. Fourth, for the effective implementation of cultural heritage education in schools, it is necessary to develop step-by-step teacher training programs. The success or failure of cultural heritage education in schools depends on teacher training. Fifth, the degree to which cultural heritage education is integrated into the curriculum should be strengthened, allowing learners to be educated so that they can cultivate knowledge and critical thinking about cultural heritage, enjoy and protect it, and connect with a sustainable society.

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the experience of persons with developmental disabilities participating in the Personalized Support Services. For case study, we conducted in-depth interviews with the persons with developmental disabilities and with the active supporters for them who were using the community welfare centers for the disabled. Through this, we have come up with three core categories: 'coming out into the community', 'experimenting with various choices in life', and 'living a subjective life'. This suggests the followings; First, it can be seen that persons with developmental disabilities who have limited communication and self-determination should be allowed to participate in the service through the participation process, and active support for the parties is needed in the process. Second, it is necessary to plan and support for them, centering on the parties, away from institution-centered services. Third, sufficient budget support should be provided for the self-determination, selection and control of the parties. Fourth, we should be able to enjoy everyday life by participating together in the local community, and change the perception of local residents to participate in the community. Fifth, continuous support is needed rather than temporary support. Finally it will be needed for us to listen to the voices of both parties and to represent their rights with all our efforts.

  • This paper investigates the transmission of food as an intangible cultural heritage and tries to answer what maintains and promotes traditional food culture, though researching into the specific example of 'making traditional soy sauce.' For that, I chose three different cases to research into the continuation and change in the transmission of traditional soy sauce making. The first instance is when the informant makes traditional soy sauce by herself. The second example is when the informant makes traditional soy sauce with ready-made soybean lumps. The last case is that people sharing the same ideology about food organize a community('kye') and make soy sauce together each year and reserve 'seed soy sauce.' This is a new type of food community. The changes in tools and skills, in production and consumption, and in food communities caused changes in the transmission of traditional soy sauce making. Because of these factors, the way of making traditional soy sauce is changing a lot. The informants, however, believed that the tradition of 'making soy sauce' will last, as far as the taste of soy sauce made in the traditional method stays the same. Therefore, we need to make an effort to sustain communities of people who remember and enjoy the taste of traditional soy sauce in order to keep the tradition of making traditional soy sauce.
