Hepatocellular carcinomas: correlation of enhancement degree with pathologic grades triple contrast MR imaging

  • Purpose: To correlate the histological differentiation of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) with finding on triple contrast-enhanced MR imaging using gadolinium-chelates, superparamganetic ire oxides (SPIO), and mangafodipir trisodium. Method: Ten patients with proven HCC underwent triple contrast-enhanced MRI befo surgical resection. Subjective ratings of the enhancement pattern and degree were compare with the histological grades determined on surgical specimen. Quantitative measurements signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of the lesion and the lesion-to-liver contrast-to-noise ratio C/N on the enhanced MR images, and the degree of S/N and C/N changes between the unenhanced and enhanced images were also correlated with the histological grades.

Noise Suppression Using Normalized Time-Frequency Bin Average and Modified Gain Function for Speech Enhancement in Nonstationary Noisy Environments

  • A noise suppression algorithm is proposed for nonstationary noisy environments. The proposed algorithm is different from the conventional approaches such as the spectral subtraction algorithm and the minimum statistics noise estimation algorithm in that it classifies speech and noise signals in time-frequency bins. It calculates the ratio of the variance of the noisy power spectrum in time-frequency bins to its normalized time-frequency average. If the ratio is greater than an adaptive threshold, speech is considered to be present. Our adaptive algorithm tracks the threshold and controls the trade-off between residual noise and distortion. The estimated clean speech power spectrum is obtained by a modified gain function and the updated noisy power spectrum of the time-frequency bin. This new algorithm has the advantages of simplicity and light computational load for estimating the noise. This algorithm reduces the residual noise significantly, and is superior to the conventional methods.

이중 $\delta$ 도핑층을 이용한 Si 채널 MESFET의 성능 향상에 관한 연구 (Performance enhancement of Si channel MESFET using double $\delta$-doped layers)

  • A Si-channle MESFET using .delta.-doped layers was designed and the considerable enhancement of the current driving capability of the device was observed by simulation. The channel consists of double .delta.-doped layers separated by a low-doped spacer. Cariers are spilt from the .delta.-doped layers and are accumulated in the spacer. The saturation current is enhanced by the contribution of the carriers in the spacer. Among the design parameters that affect the peformance of the device, the thickness of the spacer and the ratio of the doping concentrations of the two .delta.-doped layers were studied. The spacer thickenss of 300~500.angs. and the doping ratio of 3~4 were shown to be the optimized values. The saturation current was observed to be increased by 75% compared with a bulk-channel MESFET. The performances of transconductance, output resistance, and subthreshold swing were also enhanced.

On the origin of super-Helium-rich population in the Milky Way bulge

  • Our recent investigation (Lee et al. 2015) suggests that the presence of double red clump in the Milky Way bulge is another manifestation of multiple populations observed in halo globular clusters. The origin of Helium enhancement in the 2nd generation population (G2), however, is not yet fully understood. Here we investigate the origin of this super-Helium-rich population in the framework of self-enrichment scenario. We find that chemical enrichments and pollutions by asymptotic giant branch stars and winds of massive rotating stars can naturally reproduce the observed Helium enhancement. The Helium to metal enrichment ratio appears to be ${\Delta}Y/{\Delta}Z=6$ for G2, while the standard ratio, ${\Delta}Y/{\Delta}Z=2$, is appropriate for G1, which is probably enriched mostly by typeII supernovae.

의학 영상에서의 영역 기반 해상도대잡음비 향상 (Region Based Contrast-to-Noise Ratio Enhancement for Medical Images)

  • The modified Wiener filtering method is proposed for effective noise suppression in edge region of images corrupted by additive white gaussian noise. Although the pixels classified as a edge region in the conventional Wiener filter have lots of noise components, the conventional Wiener filter cannot remove noise effectively due to the preserving of edges. To reduce noise well in edge region, we modify filter coefficients of the conventional Wiener filter. The modified filter coefficients increase in noise suppression effect in edge region, while they preserve edges for strong edge region. From simulation (256${\times}$256 size, 256 graylevel images) filtered images by the proposed method show much improved subjective image quality with higher peak signal-to-noise ratio compared to those by the conventional Wiener filtering.

The Effect of Angelica gigas Nakai on Immune Enhancement in Cyclophosphamide-induced Immune-suppressed Mice

  • Natural products are important sources for drug development because they have a wide variety of useful biological properties. Angelica gigas Nakai (AGN) has been used as an herbal medicine. The present study was designed to evaluate the immune-enhancing effect of AGN in the cyclophosphamide (CP) induced immune-suppressed mice. As the result, we found that CP induced the reductions of body ratio, spleen weights, hematopoietic parameter and cytokine productions in mice. However, AGN recovered immunosuppression-mediated decreased body ratio, spleen and thymus weights as well as regulation of hematopoietic parameter including white blood cell, lymphocyte, and neutrophil. According to histological study, AGN regenerated on CP-mediated injured spleen. Moreover, AGN increased the CP-induced reduction of cytokine expression in spleen tissue. Collectively, the findings provide experimental evidence that AGN may be a candidate for health-improving herbs.

  • 스크램제트의 연소실 내부로 유입되는 공기의 속도는 초음속으로 체류 시간은 수 ms로 매우 짧다. 이 짧은 시간 안에 연료분사, 공기-연료 혼합, 연소과정이 모두 이루어져야 한다. 공기와 연료의 혼합을 증대하는 방법은 여러 가지가 제시되었다. 이중 자유류 마하수 2.5의 단일분사 방법에서의 cavity를 이용한 혼합증대 특성을 알아보기 위해 수치해석을 수행하였다. 사용된 코드는 동일조건의 실험결과와 비교하여 검증하였고 이를 통해 Cavity에 의한 혼합증대 특성을 확인할 수 있었다.

잡음 환경에 효과적인 음성인식을 위한 특징 보상 이득 기반의 음성 향상 기법 (Speech enhancement method based on feature compensation gain for effective speech recognition in noisy environments)

  • 본 논문에서는 잡음 환경에 강인한 음성 인식 성능을 위해 특징 보상 이득을 이용한 음성 향상 기법을 제안한다. 본 논문에서는 변분모델 생성 기법을 채용한 병렬 결합된 가우스 혼합 모델(Parallel Combined Gaussian Mixture Model, PCGMM) 기반의 특징 보상 기법으로부터 계산할 수 있는 특징 보상 이득을 이용하는 음성 향상 기술을 제안한다. 불일치 환경 음성 인식 시스템 적용 환경에서 본 논문에서 제안하는 기법이 실험 결과에서 기존의 전처리 기법 및 이전 연구에서 제안된 특징 보상 기반의 음성 향상 기법에 비해 다양한 잡음 및 SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) 조건에서 월등한 인식 성능을 나타내는 것을 확인한다. 또한 잡음 모델 선택 기법을 적용함으로써 음성 인식 성능을 유사한 수준으로 유지하면서 계산량을 대폭적으로 감축할 수 있다.

잡음 에너지 제어를 통한 지각 필터 성능 개선 (Performance Improvement of Perceptual Filter Using Noise Energy Control)

  • 본 논문에서는 잡음 에너지 제어를 통한 지각 필터의 성능을 향상시킴으로써 잡음에 의해 열화 된 오디오 신호의 음질을 개선하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 기존의 방식에서는 묵음 구간에서 획득한 잡음 에너지를 사용하여 필터를 구성하여 사용하지만, 신호 구간마다 달라지는 신호의 세기 및 잡음의 환경 정도에 많은 영향을 받아 잡음의 에너지가 급격하게 변화한다면 음질의 개선률이 감소함을 알 수 있다. 그러나 제안하는 방식에서는 묵음 구간에서 추정한 잡음의 에너지 제어를 통해 초기 추정 잡음보다 가까운 추정 잡음을 얻음으로써 잡음 에너지가 급격하게 변화하여도 음질 개선률에는 변화가 적음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 저 대역에 영향을 미치는 잡음의 경우에도 다른 방법들과는 달리 음질의 개선이 뚜렷하였다. 기존 방식과의 비교를 위해 다양한 신호 대 잡음 비 (signal-to-noise ratio, SNR)에서 열화 된 오디오 신호를 입력으로 사용하였다. 입력 SNR이 5dB, l0dE, 15dB와 20dB의 각각의 경우에 대하여 SSNR (Segmental SNR)과 잡음 대 마스킹 비 (Noise-to-mask ratio, NMR), 음질 테스트를 수행한 결과, 청감 테스트 (Mean Opinion Score, MOS Test)결과의 향상과 음질의 개선을 확인할 수 있었다.

The Effect of Enhancers on the Penetration of Albuterol through Hairless Mouse Skin

  • Albuterol, a selective ${\beta}_2$-adrenergic receptor stimulant, has been introduced as a potent bronchodilator for patients with bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive bronchial disease, chronic bronchitis and pulmonary emphysema. The percutaneous permeation of albuterol sulfate was investigated in hairless mouse skin in vitro with and without pretreatment with enhancers. The enhancing effects of ethanol and various penetration enhancers such as terpenes, non-ionic surfactants, pyrrolidones, and fatty acids on the permeation of albuterol sulfate were evaluated using Franz diffusion cells. Among terpenes studied, 1,8-cineole was the most effective enhancer, which increased the permeability of albuterol sulfate approximately 33-fold compared with the control without enhancer pretrement, followed by d-limonene with enhancement ratio of 21.79. 2-Pyrrolidone-5-carboxylic acid increased the permeability of albuterol sulfate approximately 5.5-fold compared with the control. Other pyrrolidones tested showed only slight permeability enhancing effect with enhancement ratio less than 2.8. Nonionic surfactants showed moderate enhancing effects. Lauric acid increased the permeability of albuterol sulfate approximately 30-fold with decreasing the lag time from 2.85 to 0.64 hr. Oleic acid and linoleic acid showed enhancement ratio of 24.55 and 22.91, respectively. These findings would allow a more rational approach for designing formulations for the transdermal delivery of albuterol sulfate and similar drugs.
