  • In this thesis, we develop a vision based hand motion recognition system using a camera with two rotational motors. Existing systems were implemented using a range camera or multiple cameras and have a limited working area. In contrast, we use an uncalibrated camera and get more wide working area by pan-tilt motion. Given an image sequence provided by the pan-tilt camera, color and pattern information are integrated into a tracking system in order to find the 2D position and direction of the hand. With these pose information, we estimate 3D motion plane on which the gesture motion trajectory from approximately forms. The 3D trajectory of the moving finger tip is projected into the motion plane, so that the resolving power of the linear gesture patterns is enhanced. We have tested the proposed approach in terms of the accuracy of trace angle and the dimension of the working volume.

  • This article summarizes our research on estimation of area-specific and time-adjusted rainfall rates during 2004KEOP (Korea enhanced observation period: June 1, $2004{\sim}$ August 31, 2004). The rainfall rate is defined as the proportion of rainfall days per week and areas are consisting of Haenam, Yeosu, Janghung, Heuksando, Gwangju, Mokpo, Jindo, and Wando. Our objectives are to analyze periodicity in area-specific precipitation and the meteorological measures and investigate the relationships between the geographic pattern of the rainfall rates and the corresponding pattern in potential explanatory covariates such as temperature, wind, wind direction, pressure, and humidity. A generalized linear model is introduced to implement the objectives and the patterns are estimated by considering a set of rainfall rates produced using samples from the posterior distribution of the population rainfall rates.

  • The dynamic effects, such as the steering and the screening effects during deposition on an epitaxial growth is studied by kinetic Monte Carlo simulation. In the simulation, we incorporates molecular dynamic simulation to rigorously take the interaction of the deposited atom with the substrate atoms into account, We find three characteristic features of the surface morphology developed by grazing angle deposition: (1) enhanced surface roughness, (2) asymmetric mound, and (3) asymmetric slopes of mound sides, Regarding their dependence on both deposition angle and substrate temperature, a reasonable agreement of the simulated results with the previous experimental ones is found. The characteristic growth features by grazing angle deposition are mainly caused by the inhomogeneous deposition flux due to the steering and screening effects, where the steering effects play the major role rather than the screening effects. Newly observed in the present simulation is that the side of mound in each direction is composed of various facets instead of all being in one selected mound angle even if the slope selection is attained, and that the slope selection does not necessarily mean the facet selection.

  • C4I system is the centerpiece of the military force. The system is an information based system which facilitates information grid, collection of data and dissemination of the information. The C4I system seeks to assure information dominance by linking warfighting elements in the battlespace to information network which enables sharing of battlespace information and awareness; thereby shifting concept of warfare from platform-centric paradigm to Network Centric Warfare. Although, it is evident that C4I system is a constant target from the adversaries, the issues of vulnerability via cyberspace from attack still remains. Therefore, the protection of C4I system is critical. The roadmap I have constructed in this paper will guide through the direction to protect the system during peace and war time. Moreover, it will propose vision, objectives and necessary supporting framework to secure the system from the threat. In order to fulfill these tasks, enhanced investments and plans from the Joint chief of Staff and Defense of Acquisition and Program Administration (DAPA) is critical; thereby enabling the establishment of rapid and efficient security system.

  • We quantitatively investigated instability mechanisms under simultaneous positive gate and drain bias stress (SPGDBS) in self-aligned top-gate amorphous indium-zinc-oxide thin-film transistors. After SPGDBS ($V_{GS}=13V$and $V_{DS}=13V$), the parallel shift of the transfer curve into a negative $V_{GS}$ direction and the increase of on current were observed. In order to quantitatively analyze mechanisms of the SPGDBS-induced negative shift of threshold voltage (${\Delta}V_T$), we experimentally extracted the density-of-state, and then analyzed by comparing and combining measurement data and TCAD simulation. As results, 19% and 81% of ${\Delta}V_T$ were taken to the donor-state creation and the hole trapping, respectively. This donor-state seems to be doubly ionized oxygen vacancy ($V{_O}^{2+}$). In addition, it was also confirmed that the wider channel width corresponds with more negative ${\Delta}V_T$. It means that both the donor-state creation and hole trapping can be enhanced due to the increase in self-heating as the width becomes wider. Lastly, all analyzed results were verified by reproducing transfer curves through TCAD simulation.

  • In this paper, we have investigated experimentally the effects of initial oxygen concentration on oxygen pileup phenomenon and the diffusion of implanted impurities. 1.2 MeV $^{11}B^{+}$ and 2.2 MeV $^{31}P^{+}$ ions were implanted into p-type (100) Si wafers with a dose of 1${\times}10^{15}$ / $\textrm{cm}^2$. Secondary ion mass spectrometry(SIMS) measurements were carried out to obtain depth distribution profiles for implanted impurities and oxygen atoms after two-step annealing of $700^{\circ}C$(20 hours)+$1000^{\circ}C$(10 hours). Residual secondary defect distribution and annealing behabiour were also studied by cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy(TEM) observations. Oxygen pileup nearly $R_p$(projected range) were observed by SIMS measurements and considerable amount of residual secondary defect layer were observed by TEM observations. It can be seen that oxygen atoms are trapped at the secondary defects by the experimental results. Enhanced diffusions of boron and phosphorus to the bulk direction were observed with the increasing of initial oxygen concentration.

  • In this contribution, the renovation of the Korean geodetic control points is introduced. The renovation is described in terms of structure and accuracy. Mainly the establishment of the three-dimensional control points is the renovation on structure which leads many changes in accuracy, contents and hierarchy of the control points. The accuracy of the information is being improved based on the satellite positioning technology and precision geoid being developed. Diverse spatial information such as gravity and environmental elements are considered to be measured at the position of the control points so that the related research is enhanced through the analysis of combined information. In addition, an access to the information of control points and service to the public with spatial information will be faster and more efficient through RFID and CDMA communication. With all these efforts being made currently, the Korean geodetic network will provide the most accurate and diverse spatial information in an efficient way. We hope that these activities lead the trends, roles, and future direction of the geodetic control points.

  • The purpose of this study is textile design development of the golf wear for international game in which it can inform the status of Korea through the visualization of the national symbolic image, and for this we developed the motive of modern Taeguk motive. According to an increase of popularization of the golf wear and participation of international game, the status of our country needs to be enhanced by developing the motive which the Korea symbolic pattern applied and applying to the golf wear, and it needs to contribute to the fashion industry through commercialization. 'Taeguk' is love with ideological concept and the Korea Founding Principles. The symbolic characteristic in which it represents the Korean image is clear. We presented applicable modern direction based on the figurative features and meaning of traditional pattern. The result of modernized Taeguk motive application to golf wear, effect of our country symbol showed up on a large scale in case of using single motive. And the pattern in which many arrangement methods are applied was more effective that it applies as the part of the detail than the front construction. In addition, we consider that It makes a large contribution to the fashion industry's development by application of fashionable pattern added in applied motive to golf wear.

  • The inclusion of thermophoresis in particle deposition studies has often been treated separately from deposition due to flow characteristics. Also previously reported experimental results on thermophoresis have been studied in the regions of relatively small temperature gradients. In this study, using real-time laser light reflectivity method, we measured the angular dependence of the deposition rates of particles of the cylindrical collector surface, which immerged in laminar flow of a hot gas suspension of small particles. And we extended the previous narrowband results of thermophoretic deposition rates to the regions of large temperature gradients between the hot gas stream and the collector surface. Based on the obtained data, the cylinder's forward stagnation-point region is considerably enriched in particle 'phase' density owing to the compressibility effect, which leads to locally enhanced deposition while the downstream region from the stagnation point inertial force acts in the opposite direction, which tends to centrifuge particles away from the wall, thus the local deposition rates by thermophoresis are reduced.

  • Background Temporalis muscle transfer produces prompt surgical results with a one-stage operation in facial palsy patients. The orthodromic method is surgically simple, and the vector of muscle action is similar to the temporalis muscle action direction. This article describes transferring temporalis muscle insertion to reconstruct incomplete facial nerve palsy patients. Methods Between August 2009 and November 2011, 6 unilateral incomplete facial nerve palsy patients underwent surgery for orthodromic temporalis muscle transfer. A preauricular incision was performed to expose the mandibular coronoid process. Using a saw, the coronoid process was transected. Three strips of the fascia lata were anchored to the muscle of the nasolabial fold through subcutaneous tunneling. The tension of the strips was adjusted by observing the shape of the nasolabial fold. When optimal tension was achieved, the temporalis muscle was sutured to the strips. The surgical results were assessed by comparing pre- and postoperative photographs. Three independent observers evaluated the photographs. Results The symmetry of the mouth corner was improved in the resting state, and movement of the oral commissure was enhanced in facial animation after surgery. Conclusions The orthodromic transfer of temporalis muscle technique can produce prompt results by applying the natural temporalis muscle vector. This technique preserves residual facial nerve function in incomplete facial nerve palsy patients and produces satisfying cosmetic outcomes without malar muscle bulging, which often occurs in the turn-over technique.
