  • This paper describes the automatic recognition technique for heart enlargement diagnosis with the chest X-ray films enhanced by digital image processing. The technique measures a maximum transverse of the daiphragm and a maximum transverse of the heart by means of direction signature algorithms, then calculates the desired ratio of these two measured values. This is often refered to a cadiothoracic ratio which gives as useful clue for heart enlargement symptom. The experiment results in this paper show presented method is more efficient than the manual diagnosis method of the symptom.

초음파분무법으로 제조한 ZnO:Er막의 UV 발광 특성 (UV emission of ZnO:Er films prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis)

  • The films of Er-doped ZnO (ZnO:Er) were prepared onto MgO wafers by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis at $550^{\circ}C$. The concentration of Er in the deposition source varied from 0.5 wt% to 3.0 wt%. The crystallographic properties and surface morphologies of the films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), respectively. The properties of photoluminescence (PL) for the films were investigated by dependence of PL spectra on the Er concentration in the films. The films were grown as polycrystalline with a dominant direction of [002]. The grain size of the films were reduced by Er-doping. Er-doping enhanced the ultraviolet emission of ZnO:Er films. The ZnO:Er films prepared with the deposition source of 2.0 wt% Er showed the strongest ultraviolet light emission peak among the films in this study.

  • Robot are necessary to automate the work on a vertical plane of work piece to produce a large structure like a ship, so that a permanent magnet wheel has been attempted to be used for a mobile robot. Its adhesive power was enhanced by restricting the occurrence direction of magnetic flow. Furthermore a method which weakened the adhesive force was developed for easy detachement of the wheel by changing magnetic flow with metal pin. To measure the characteristics of the adhesive and detaching farces, a load call and a gaussmeter were used. The result showed that the adhesive power was reduced to 1/3 of normal state by using 4 inducing pins.

  • We have observed the short-channel effect, narrow-channel effect and small-geometry effect in terms of a variation of the threshold voltage. For a short-channel effect the threshold voltage was largely determined by the DIBL effect which stimulates more carrier injection in the channel by reducing the potential barrier between the source and channel. The effect becomes more significant for a shorter-channel device. However, the potential, field and current density distributions in the channel along the transverse direction showed a better uniformity for shorter-channel devices under the same voltage conditions. The uniformity of the current density distribution near the drain on the potential minimum point becomes worse with increasing the drain voltage due to the enhanced DIBL effect. This means that considerations for channel-width effect should be given due to the variation of the channel distributions for short-channel devices. For CCDs which are always operated at a pinch-off state the channel uniformity thus becomes significant since they often use a device structure with a channel length of > 4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and a very high drain (or diffusion) voltage.   • The asymptotic problem of a semi-infinite conducting crack parallel to the poling direction in ferroelectric ceramics subjected to electric fields is analyzed. The main mechanism for the conducting crack growth behavior is thought to be ferroelectric domain switching leading to the development of a process zone around the crack. The shape and size of the switching zone is shown to depend strongly on the relative magnitude on the ratio of the coercive electric field to the yield electric field. It is shown that the crack growth can be either enhanced or retarded depending on the ratio of the coercive electric field to yield electric field.

  • Functional Electrical Stimulation is the clinical application of a small electric current to the intact nerves of the body, in order to trigger a muscle contraction. This contraction is then incorporated into a functional activity, for example walling. A clear distinction needs to be made between therapeutic stimulation and functional stimulation. The former being of an exercise orientation, where one would relax while the stimulation works on its own. Functional electrical stimulation on the other hand, incorporates this elicited muscle movement into an everyday activity, like standing, walking, reaching out etc. But recently, New method used to FES which updated electrode insult in muscle and small nerve branch. A lot of new research build up many countries such as England, USA, Japan, Spain, Canada. So I had been write this paper for introduce new FES method, and I hope to more enhanced motivation of therapist for the functional electric stimulation.

  • Ultrasonic anemometers using pulse envelope detection-based method are standard instruments in most meteorological studies. In this paper, a new phase measurement method is tried to achieve the enhanced resolution without changing dimensions. The measurement sensitivity, dynamic range, and measurement speed of the new instrument are 0.2 mm/s, 13.3 m/s, and 13 measurements/sec, respectively. A graphic user interface is added to show the velocity and direction of the wind with the speed of sound and temperature of the wind in the 3 dimensional space. The new anemometer could be useful for the measurement of the air speed, the flow of fluids, and even air flow inside the downtown buildings.

  • In this paper, we propose a ne weighted backward covariance matrix method to enhance the resolution for direction-of-arrival(DOA) estimation. The proposed method (MEVM:modified eigenvector method) is an enhanced covariance matrix method which is an extended form of the conventional covariance matrix. We analyze the effect of using the weighted forward-baskward covariance matrix on the performance of the eigenvector method(EVM). By comparing the perturbation angle of the noise-subspace, we show that the spectral estimate obtained using the proposed method is less distorted than the spectral estimate obtained using the conventional EVM. The simulation results show that the new method is more accurate and has better resolution than the conventional EVM under the same noise conditions.

  • A centrifugal water chiller using alternative refrigerant R134a have been developed. The prototype was designed to have refrigeration capacity of 300RT. Its compressor employs a single high-speed impeller, airfoil diffuser and collector. Newly developed enhanced tubes were installed in the evaporator and the condenser to reduce the required head for the compressor. Off-design characteristics at various conditions, performance test of the compressor and analysis of the refrigeration cycle were performed. So the probability of use in part load condition was checked and the direction for revision was suggested.

  • For the accurate analysis of crack problems, considerable nodal refinement near the crack tip to capture singular stress field with sufficient accuracy to provide a useful computation of stress intensity factor is required. So, in this paper, adaptive nodal refinement scheme is proposed where nodes in restricted cell regions centered at crack tip are arranged in array for enhanced spatial resolution and adaptivity. With only cell-wise adaptive refinement scheme around crack tip fields, singularity of crack tip is sufficiently described to expect a successive crack propagate direction. Through numerical tests, accuracy of the proposed adaptive scheme is investigated and compared with the finite element and experimental results. By this implementation, it is shown that high accuracy is achieved by using iterative cell-wise solution method fur analyzing crack propagation problems.
