This research aimed to understand the current status of early childhood education and to develop a future direction of early childhood English education. One group interview and three private interviews were conducted with 10 early education teachers to obtain in-depth understanding of the problems inherent in English education. The findings show that there is an internal conflict in the teachers regarding the value of English education in early childhood. In addition, there are external conflicts with the children the parents, the English teacher, the program director, and the government in English education. It is concluded that the early childhood educators felt an internal conflict regarding the current, inappropriate execution of early English education which is lacking a suitable educational plan including goals and practices. Furthermore, the teacher's preference for English also contributed to the internal conflict regarding the belief in early childhood English education. Secondly, the external conflicts included: English teachers with inadequate understanding of comprehensive early childhood development, parents who show excessive interest in early childhood English education without regard to childhood development, the reality that early childhood English education is mostly influenced by the attitudes of the program director without regard for the conflicts experienced by the early childhood teacher, and the politics of the government continuing to ignore the reality that early childhood English education ontinues in practice without being included in the national curriculum.

Objectives: This study analyzes factors related to English communication skills in the dental health services of clinical dental hygienists who provide dental medical services to foreigners. Methods: Surveys were conducted to measure students' English communication skills. Participants comprised 195 clinical dental hygienists working at dental English study cafes or who provided dental medical services to foreigners. After analyzing the differences in English communication skills, hierarchical multiple regression analysis was performed on the factors related to English communication skills. Results: English communication skill of dental hygienists was 1.96 points out of 5 points. The factors related to the English communication skill of the clinical dental hygienists were foreign patient care, language training experience, overseas living experience, and certified English proficiency. The adjusted explanatory power of this model was 53.0%. Conclusions: Dental hygienists in charge of foreign patients have experience in language training and overseas residence, have a language qualification certificate, and have higher English communication skills. It is necessary to develop English language learning programs based on metaverse to develop the English communication skills of dental hygienists who provide dental health services to foreign patients and to operate a creative educational environment to increase interest in learning English.

2015 개정 교육과정의 궁극적인 목표는 창의융합형 인재육성이다. 본 연구에서는 과학 애니메이션을 활용한 영어 융합 수업을 통해 초등학교 6학년 학생들의 영어 듣기와 읽기 능력(이하 영어 능력)이 얼마나 향상되었는지를 검증하고자 하였다. 실험반(27명) 학생들은 영어수업 시작 전 융합수업을 받은 반면 통제반(28명) 학생들은 그 시간에 전 시간에 배운 수업을 복습하였다. 실험 시작 전, 2018년 3월에 C 교육청에서 실시한 초등학교 6학년 진단평가를 통해 동질집단인 것을 확인하였고 10개월의 실험기간 종료 후 2017년 3월 C 교육청에서 실시한 중학교 1학년용 진단평가를 통해 학생들의 영어능력 향상 여부를 알아보았다. 실험 결과, 융합수업을 받은 학생들의 영어 능력이 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 뿐만 아니라 실험 전 후 영어학습에 대한 정의적 태도에 관한 설문조사 결과, 흥미도와 자신감 측면에서 향상이 있었음도 확인할 수 있었다.

본 연구는 영어 자막 활용의 순서가 국내 항공 대학 학생들의 영어 학습에 대한 자신감, 흥미, 및 동기에 미치는 영향을 조사한 것으로, 국내 한 대학의 항공서비스학과 재학생을 대상으로 하여 영어 자막 활용 순서에 따라 그들의 영어 학습에 대한 태도에 변화가 있는지 파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구에는 충청남도 소재의 한 대학에서 영어 수업을 수강하고 있는 60명의 대학생이 참여하였으며, 모든 참가자들은 항공서비스학과의 재학생들이었다. 총 16주 동안 일주일에 한번씩 2시간동안 영어 수업이 진행되었고, 모든 실험 및 자료 수집은 해당 수업시간 내에 이루어졌다. 영어 자막 활용의 순서에 따라 영어 학습에 대한 태도의 변화가 있는지 알아보기 위해 모든 실험이 끝난 후, 영어에 대한 자신감, 흥미, 그리고 동기와 관련한 설문이 진행되었다. 통계적으로 유의미한 결과를 보인 주 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 설문 결과, 먼저 영어 자막을 먼저 보는 것이 국내 항공 대학 학생들의 영어에 대한 자신감과 흥미를 더욱 이끌어 낸다는 사실이 밝혀졌다. 하지만 영어 학습에 대한 동기 부여를 위해서는 영어 자막을 나중에 보는 것이 더욱 효과적이라는 것이 드러났다. 본 연구는 수업 목표에 따라 국내 영어 학습자들에게 영어 자막을 언제 제공해야 하는지에 대한 통찰력을 제공한다.

이 연구의 목적은 영자신문을 활용한 영어 수업을 통해 중학생의 독해능력을 향상 시키는데 있다. 이 연구를 위해 다음과 같이 3개의연구문제를 제시하였다. 첫째, 영자신문을 활용한 수업이 실험집단과 통제집단의 독해능력 향상에 어떤 영향을 미치는가? 둘째, 영자신문을 활용한 수업이 영어 숙달도에 따라 어떤 영향을 미치는가? 셋째, 영자신문 활용 수업은 흥미와 만족도에 어떤 영향을 미치는가? 실험 대상은 광주에 있는 중학교 2학년을 대상으로 실험집단 34명과 통제집단 36명 총 70명으로 이루어져 있다. 실험집단은 영자 신문을 활용한 수업을 10주간 진행하였다. 그리도 통제집단은 교과서 중심의 전통적인 문법수업으로 진행하였다. 자료 분석은 SPSS12.0을 이용하여 t검증을 실시하였다. 이 연구 결과 영자신문을 활용한 교육은 학생들의 영어독해능력 향상에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 영자신문을 활용한 수업은 학생들이 수업에 흥미를 가지고 참여하도록 하였다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the production of English vowels by native speakers of Korean. In the production test, two English speakers and four native Korean speakers served as subjects. The four native Korean speakers were divided into two groups, experienced and inexperienced. Native English speakers generally showed significant differences both in vowel duration and in F1 & F2 values between members of vowel pairs which are of special interest of this study: /i/l vs. /I/, /$\varepsilon$/ vs. /${\ae}$/, and /u/ vs. /$\mho$/. The overall results showed that the experienced group produced more accurate results in vowel duration, F1, and F2 values.

There has been a study about the effective multimedia education using a computer following the appearance of a virtual space. Also, there has been an effort to connect the information & communication technology with education. The popular on-line lecture systems are mostly on English lecture sites. However, they just offer the VOD(Video On Demand) services ignoring students' convenience. To improve these week points, we design and implement the multimedia leaching system focusing on an efficient repeat-effect in order that students can control the Media Player by clicking a sentence on a web page. This paper presents the Editor and Player considering students' interest and the effective learning fruits. So users can easily make multimedia materials and use them to improve their English listening skill.

This study examines the importance of learning language and cultural integration in general English class focused on TOEIC reading comprehension. The understanding of cultural learning and learners' cultural awareness has long been a subject of debate. This study was not only to analyze the improvement of students' interest and reading comprehension ability of TOEIC through cultural learning, but also to ensure students who learn American culture overcome cross-cultural miscommunication and improve their English reading comprehension skills. Pre-post surveys and the pre-post TOEIC tests were used to measure language proficiency and American cultural knowledge to two groups: the experimental and control group. The results from the study were as follows: First, students had better TOEIC scores with improved motivation after understanding American culture relevant to the lessons. Second, reading comprehension skills with regards to TOEIC also improved, compared with the students who were not exposed to American culture due to lack of opportunity.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the awareness and needs of English learning in allied health science college students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 600 health science college students in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon province. The questionnaire consisted of purpose of English learning, attitude and motivation. Data were analyzed by SPSS 19.0 program. Results: Most of the students took English classes(96%) and the English class was mainly done by instruction-centered learning (43.6%). Many students felt the needs of English and they thought English was the most important tool for getting a job(70.7%). Nonetheless most of the students lacked in confidence and interest in English learning due to the surrounding pressure(51.2%). Too much surrounding pressure can cause students lose their zest in English learning. Conclusions: It is need to seek for a curriculum consisting of practical purposes to meet the needs of health science college students about English learning.

The purpose of this study is to investigate teachers' perspectives on content-based instruction (CBI) in English at a higher education in Korea. Based on the assumption that content-based instruction programs could be successful if teachers were actively involved not only in transmitting the content knowledge but also in students' development in the second or foreign language competence, the study explores teachers' treatments of language in relation to the students' language development in CBI classes. Research questions were related to five areas such as (1) the goals of CBI programs, (2) difficulties in CBI classes, (3) the use of native language, (4) teaching strategies and techniques, and (5) factors that affect the success of the CBI programs. Data gathered from 24 college instructors from a large university located in the metropolitan city of Korea. Results of the study indicated that college instructors of CBI programs had keen interest in developing students' language competence, experienced difficulties in designing course syllabus for mixed leveled group of students, rarely used Korean in class and used successful teaching strategies. Also factors needed to improve the CBI programs were recommended at the end of the study. Results of the study implied that teachers needed to be more aware of the students' learning process of English and to be more communicative with students in English in class. Further studies were needed in relation to the CBI courses for students of different age levels.
