We aim to investigate whether the activities in the 2015 revised elementary English textbooks are reflected in terms of Multiple Intelligences. Specifically, we analyze three types of activities including project, game, and cultural activities in three types of the 5^th grade English textbooks. Additionally, we compare the differences in the Multiple Intelligences according to three different publishers. The data includes three different sorts of fifth-grade English textbook activities. We found that verbal-linguistic intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, and visual-spatial intelligence are heavily involved in project activities. Verbal-linguistic intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, visual-spatial intelligence, and kinesthetic intelligence are all utilized in game activities. Lastly, cultural activities demonstrate verbal-linguistic and visual-spatial intelligence. In consideration of the diversity of students, we suggest that English textbooks need to consider diverse and well balanced approach to incorporating Multiple Intelligences in order to make the textbooks to meet the needs of the diversity of learners.

The purpose of this study is to increase students' interest in the subject of English, which has been led by some mannerism, and to improve the students' basic scholastic ability and self-controlled problem solving, through adopting an individualized Web Based Instruction(WBI) as a concrete and practical learning method. In order to achieve this, an individualized Web Based Instruction(WBI) homepage has been developed to be applied experimentally to the field of middle school education for 8 months, and a research has been made on its effects on the students' interest in English along with the improvement of English. Two groups which showed almost the same interest were selected as a controlled group and an experimental one. Individualized Web Based Instruction was applied to the experimental group, while the controlled group was not instructed according to student ability. The controlled group was taught using CD added with the textbook. As a result of T-test, the students in the experimental group showed more improvement in communicative competence than those in the controlled group.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to extend the knowledge about two volumes of Kanho Kyokwaseo (Textbook of Nursing) published in 1908 and 1910. Methods: The books were investigated from the first to the last pages and compared with other textbooks published during the same period. Results: The origin of these books was from Hubinyaoshu (Manual of Nursing) published in China in 1904. They were translated by Edmunds, a missionary nurse from America, and Chang Chai-Sun, a teacher at the first nursing school in Korea, along with inspection by Korean teachers who were fluent in English. Kanho Kyokwaseo are user-friendly textbooks in that they are written mainly in Hangul; Chinese and English are added in cases of explicating western scientific terminology and medical terminology, with notes at the top, on the left, and on the right of the page. The contents emphasize reporting and submission to supervisors and doctors. Surgical nursing occupies the largest chapter. Disinfection and hygiene, the advantages of western modern medicine, are dealt with repeatedly and importantly. Conclusion: Kanho Kyokwaseo was widely used as the first and only nursing textbook published before Japanese occupation and as a publication having upgraded the level of textbooks.

This paper presents a comparative study on the effectiveness of teaching an engineering course using English with Specific Purpose(ESP). A study was performed using student groups; one class using ESP, and one class conducted in English with an English text. The course conducted using ESP showed the greatest improvement in English writing and conversation, and the students reported a greatly increased confidence in their ability to function professionally using English. A self-assessment of each student was conducted before and after the courses. Prior to the course less than 10% in each group felt that they are able to: a) understand a textbook, b) write an email, c) generate a project report, or d) follow a lecture given in English. The survey at the end of the course showed that the ESP teaching style resulted in significant improvements in students ability and confidence with writing and speaking in English, whereas reading skills were similar for both groups. This is due to the ESP method, in which students are required to give presentations and keep journals in English. After a brief review of the ESP principles and a discussion of how they were implemented, the background data of the participants(students) are described. Finally, the end-of-semester survey highlights the efficacy of the ESP approach.

The development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has changed the manner in which English teachers are taught as instructors, as well as English language learners. Online-related technology, a product of development of ICT technology, is used for various purposes such as training teachers and enhancing professionalism of current teachers to practice more efficient training. The purpose of this study is to extract common domains and sub-domains related to development of cyber-type in-service training (INSET) through domestic and international case analyses and to develop content areas of INSET using cyberspace or efficient online INSET programs. To accomplish the purpose of this study, domestic and foreign cases were analyzed in relation to direction of development of online English teacher training programs.

As information society matures to an even higher level and as information technology becomes a necessity to our everyday lives, the needs to develop, support and satisfy personal and social needs without the limitation of time, space, and location have become a vital point to everyday lives. Smartphone users are increasing at a staggering rate but the research on mobile-Learning model and the implementation of m-Learning scenario are still behind the needs of the users. Therefore, this paper focuses on the design of 'repeatable and short-spanned m-Learning model' to meet the needs of the learners who are on the go and on the move with their smartphones. Smartphone users frequently reach out for their phones but compare to the frequencies, the actual span of time they spend per use are relatively and surprisingly short. One way to understand this phenomenon is that the users tend to immediately replace their smartphones with laptops or desktops whenever they are available. A leaning model was needed to reflect this short and frequent use, a use that is solely based on the smartphone environment. This proposed learning model first defines this particular setting and implements the model to real smartphone users over an 8 week period. To understand whether different learning backgrounds can influence this model, different schools with online and offline learning channels participated in the experiment. User survey was conducted after the experiment to get a better understanding of the smartphone users. Pretest and posttest were conducted before and after the experiment and the data were validated and analyzed using SPSS version 18.0 for PC. Preliminary descriptive statistics, multiple regression and cross validation was conducted for the analysis. The results showed that the proposed English Listening and Comprehension Mobile Digital Textbook (ELCMDT) had a positive effect on the learners in general and was more effective for learners who were already experienced with online learning.

This paper is aimed to evaluate the communicative competence of Korean EFL learners through the Discourse Completion Tasks(DCT) analysis. The present study has three purposes. The first purpose is to analyse English textbooks on the basis of thanking strategies, apologizing strategies, and requesting and offering strategies presented in Aijmer(1996). The second purpose is to analyse the discourse completion data collected from Korean middle school students and university students. The third one is to suggest the discourse syllabus model for the 8th national curriculum in Korea.

The purpose of the present study is to examine the degree to which the writing instruction using animations has effects on the writing performance of $4^{th}$ year elementary school students. This study also examined the effects of the animation-based writing instruction on the interest and confidence of those students. To this aim, the present study utilized a set of writing tests and questionnaires before and after the instruction. The data were collected from 63 elementary school students. The data were then analyzed using a series of statistical analyses. The results suggested that the students who received the writing instruction using animations performed significantly better on the writing test than those who received the textbook-based instruction. The results also suggested that those who received the animation-based instruction showed more positive interest and confidence on English and English learning. Finally, limitations of the present study and suggestions for further studies are discussed at the end of the paper.

The purpose of this research is to improve the writing ability of students by an ideal test model of English writing based on strategies of procedural learning stages enhancing the level of students' writing ability. Assessment of writing in the field of English education has been limited so far to very restricted areas with no appropriate scientific scrutiny. Assessment is really meaningful only when it exactly estimates the ability of students. Since English writing competence has become indispensable in this era of global village, writing instruction should be most emphasized. The most forceful method of busting writing instruction is to utilize the so-called washback effect of testing. So, to develop a good test model of writing, the first thing that is required is to inspect writing strategy in steps and, then, testing itself. First of all, analyzed with a special reference to the 6th high school English curriculum were the goals and contents of the syllabus reflected in one kind of junior high textbook and eight different kinds of senior high textbooks. Then questionnaires on the whole area of writing and tendencies of English writing classes were given to 100 English teachers, 300 students. The results of questionnaires were statistically analyzed. Then, some suggestions and opinions about the questioning method were made: the procedural strategy in steps, English writing instruction and test model of assessment were applied to the syllabus referring to teaching plans. On the bases of the results of the questionnaires, three pretests and a final test of English writing were administered to verify the effect of enhanced English writing competence which had been gradually promoted and, through the promotion, produced the test criteria of English writing. In conclusion, guidance and evaluation of English writing through in steps are really indispensable to increase student's practical ability and, accordingly, we are in need of the development of a testing method of useful writing practiced in school class above anything else. So, it is necessary to further the study on methods to assess writing ability on the bases of participation and fluency of students with their keen interest in English. Also, to intensify the effect of the test model, more accommodating reorganization of syllabus is required in our education. For instance, we need a flexible operation in organizing time units from the current 50 minutes to 100-130 minutes.

To develop tailored elementary, middle, and high school textbooks suitable for understanding the nuclear energy and radiation, quantitative and qualitative research was carried out in parallel, which included nine steps to ensure the validity of content and structure. The elementary, middle, and high school students wanted to acquire information used in their daily lives, including the definition of nuclear energy and radiation, principles and status of nuclear power generation, and information about irradiated food, medical radiation, and radiation in life. In the evaluation of the effects of textbook contents according to the educational requirements of each school level, high suitability frequencies (>80%) were shown for the human character, education goals, curriculum goals, evaluation method, and education time. At some levels, the high suitability frequencies (>70%) were shown for the education grade, education type, and textbook type.
