  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the educational experiences of competent engineering students and finding the reason why they invest their time and efforts engaging in school activities. Five students with high GPA, high K-CESA scores and successful employment or entrance test scores, participated in the survey and the interview. In checking their responses, their activities' records were gathered from school DB. According to the modified framework based on the personal investment theory, the interviews, survey and DB records were analyzed on the sense of self, the social cultural environment, and pattern of behaviors in schools. The competent engineering students are able to manage themselves, in maintaining a good relationship with the collegiate, and in having high self-efficiency. They also tend to put effort into their studies and participate in inbound and outbound school activities. At the last part, freshmen foundation, relationship within college, students' activity related future career, economic stability during studies are suggested for supporting students in universities.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to obtain data that can be utilized in the planning of oral health education plan, by surveying the correlation between oral health knowledge, attitude, and behavior among high grade students elementary school in some regions of the metropolitan. Methods: The subject of this study through the survey of the recognition of the oral health, a questionnaire survey was conducted for 548 male and female students who were in the 4th, 5th, 6th grade of elementary school in some regions of the metropolitan. Statistical analysis was conducted using the SPSS 12.0 with t-test, ANOVA, and correlation. Results: Knowledge of oral health was very high. Correct attitudes and positive behavior were indicated. There was a significant difference in oral health knowledge according to school year and parents' dental condition(P<.05). The student one recording oral health behavior degree where the oral health knowledge is high appears highly, considers statistically the difference which it was visible. Positive correlation was significantly observed among oral health knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. Especially, attitudes and toothbrush method were highly correlated(r=.853). Conclusion: Oral health program through the elementary school students and their parents for the development of proper oral health care education programs continue to be made should be considered.

  • A numerical analysis of shock wave/boundary layer interaction in transonic/supersonic axial flow compressor cascade has been performed by using a characteristics upwind Navier-Stokes method with various turbulence models. Two equation turbulence models were applied to transonic/supersonic flows over a NACA 0012 airfoil. The results are superion to those from an algebraic turbulence model. High order TVD schemes predicted shock wave/boundary layer interactions reasonably well. However, the prediction of SWBLI depends more on turbulence models than high order schemes. In a supersonic axial flow cascade at M=1.59 and exit/inlet static pressure ratio of 2.21, k-$\omega$ and Shear Stress Transport (SST) models were numerically stables. However, the k-$\omega$ model predicted thicker shock waves in the flow passage. Losses due to shock/shock and shock/boundary layer interactions in transonic/supersonic compressor flowfields can be higher losses than viscous losses due to flow separation and viscous dissipation.

  • In general, it is fact that most educational institutions have lots of problems about shift of education facility and equipment because of insufficient budget. However, most high school girls live a lot of period in the school and most of them wear student uniform. Thus, it is necessary that educational environment has to be improved by actual body size of high school girls. The main objective of this study is to provide numerical guideline for the improvement of educational environment about high school girls ($17\sim19$ years) through comparison and analysis on physical standard of nation (report published in 1997). The sample for this work chosen from data which were collected and measured by Size Korea during two years $(2003\sim2004)$. In order to analyze feature of the somatotype of high school girls, analysis was performed about 734 subjects on 25 body parts such as height (7 parts), width (4 parts), thickness (4 parts), circumference (5 parts), length (4 parts) and body weight. For the specific comparison on somatotype, $R\ddot{o}hrer$ index and Mollison's comparison graph were used. The result of this study can be utilized in various fields such as design of classroom, student uniforms, facilities and equipments for education, etc.

  • In spite that spatial ability has been recognized as an important element of academic achievement in engineering studies, researches on the topic are rather limited in Korea. In this study, the relationship between spatial visualization skill and academic achievement of engineering students was investigated based on the several variables such as gender, high school education background and college course achievement. The result showed that there were significant relevance between spatial visualization skill and gender, high school type, achievement of high school level math & physics, and college course work grade of computer graphic and capstone design. According the case study, from the entry time of engineering college, support programs to reinforce spatial visualization skill are required for lower skill groups such as female and graduate from art course in high school. Also, college curriculum such as Engineering graphics, Capstone design are substantial to improve spatial visualization skill. However, more diversified sample groups and research methods are required in order to draw in depth results.

  • The purpose of the study is to evaluate fracture toughness on the Laser and the electron beam welded joints of high tensile steels (HT500, HT550, HT650) by using 3-point bend CTOD and Charpy impact test. WM (weld metal) CTOD tests have been carried out using two kinds of CTOD specimen, the Laser beam welding (108mm length, and 24mm width, and 12mm thickness) and the electron beam welding (l71mm length, and 38mm width, and 19mm thickness). WM Charpy impact specimen is a standard V-notch type, and the temperature of the experiment is changed from -45 to 20 degree of centigrade. FE-analysis is also performed in order to investigate the effect of stress-strain fields on fracture characteristics. Results of the standard V-notch Charpy test are influenced by strength mis-match effect and the absorbed energy vE depends on crack path, and The transition temperature of Laser beam welded joints is more higher than that of electron beam welded joints. Results of the 3-point bend test give low critical CTOD and the crack path is in the weld metal of al specimens. These results indicate fracture toughness characteristics of the welded joints and transition temperature of HT500 are similar both a Laser beam welded joint and an electron beam welded joint. But the fracture toughness and the transition temperature of the electron beam welded joints of HT550 and HT650 are higher than those o the Laser beam welded joints.

  • Microprocessor is widely used in various industries. So it is very important to learn about it. But it is very difficult because students must know about both hardware and software of it. Student usually learn about it with a complete educational product in many technical high school. It make them to have no chance to mixed various electronic parts such as sensors, motors and so on. It cause them to low the creative product making ability. So we adjust new course with the arduino instead of the complete educational product to microprocessor education. It help student to high the electronic part mixing ability and the creative electronic product making ability.

  • The objective of this project is to cultivate interest among junior high school students toward Science & Technology. Six simple experiments will be introduced to the participants (junior high school students) of this project which is focusing on the basic principles of engineering including law of motion, free-fall, force, energy, friction and work. Our student team has been assigned to design six set of experiment according to the principles. The experiments are easy to understand and simple to assemble by the students of age 13 to 15. Experimental manuals were written by the members using simple words complete with figure so that all the participants can understand the procedure of each experiment. In order to make sure the manuals are practically working, the experiment sets were tested and the results were compared with actual theory. As a result, we believe that the experiments can be done by the students within less supervision. The students are able to set up the experiments by using some simple equipment around them. By doing this experiments, we can further our understanding and explain better the principles of energy, force and work.

  • Recently, the interest in Accreditation of Engineering Education, which aims at facilitating the development of engineering education and producing the high calibre of graduates in engineering schools, is increasing. The accreditation requires the students to prepare a portfolio which shows the educational achievements from all courses at the university. In the portfolio, educational activities and outputs of the student are included as a part of the achievements. Particularly, in the portfolio of design-related courses, outputs of the design the student has made until the graduation are accumulated. The outputs enable others to measure the design capability of the student and can be used as important reference materials when applying for employment or graduate school. In this paper, I propose a format of the portfolio for practical exercise courses, engineering design, and undergraduate design and explain the ways of the utilization of the portfolio.
