  • This paper suggests the education method of information communication ethics by harmful word filtering on web boards as a way to solve the malfunctioning problem occurring in making informations at the step of their positive activities of information offers. The harmful word filtering system for the education of information communication ethics describes the method to construct a harmful word dictionary by extracting harmful words related with improper doing of writing, sexual insult, abusive language and expressions of criticizing others shown in web boards. Decrease by more than 90% in writing with harmful words and inappropriate writing was shown as the result of application of the harmful word filtering system on school home pages.

  • This is the development of educational content that provides online ethical education to adolescents. Internet oriented education content is not only limited by time and place, but also enables students to do self-motivated study. In addition, it is not unilateral education in which teachers only give lectures but also requires students to seek for information so that they can interact with teachers. Therefore, in this paper, we are going to observe the basic concept and principle of information communication ethnical education, educational contents and how to do self-motivated study to reveal the necessity of implementing educational content. This course of education is compared and analyzed to preceding studies on which online educational contents are established.

  • Failure is an important part of engineering practice. Engineers utilize all of their competences and resources in order for their products or processes to meet the initial intention and purpose, and not to fail. However, the technological products sometimes end up with failure. The failure, in many cases, is related to non-technological factors or systems, not just limited to technological factors. Moreover, the evaluation of failure is performed by a variety of agents, including consumers, civic groups, government as well as professional groups. Thus, this study raises an issue that the existing concept of failure, which focuses on the operation of function, is not sufficient enough to properly cover the success or failure of technology required by the modern society. In the recent trends of engineering, new concepts and methods have been developed by expanding the traditional concept or introducing a new perspective of failure, so that engineering failure can be better understood in the mutual relationship between technology and society. This research attempts to suggest a methodology of how the failure of engineering can be utilized and properly combined in the major education, design education and engineering ethics education. Also, it aims to contribute to the quality improvement of engineering education to train engineers who can lead the society with responsibility as well as professional competence.

  • The economic depression during the last decade of the 20th century caused various drastic changes in the social structure, including employment and educational systems. Japanese universities have devoted much effort to research activity and the development of teaching methodology for engineering education was not a major effort for professors. Decrease of 18 years old population, however, forced universities to change this attitude. University education is no more for only elite but is becoming very popular among young people. Another impact came from the 'globalization'of industrial societies such as establishment of WTO and APEC. Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (JABEE) was established to cope with both domestic and international problems in 1999, and JABEE was admitted as a full signatory member of the Washington Accord in 2005. The Professional Engineer Law was amended linked with JABEE. The importance of engineering ethics has been recognized with these social structure changes. Japanese Society for Engineering Education (JSEE) is contributing for reformation of Japanese engineering education through its activities including supporting JABEE. This paper describes the problems now Japanese engineering education is facing and the role of JSEE in order to reorganize the engineering education in Japan.

  • Information society, introduced by the rapid progress of computer technology and communication technology, has brought us the comfort and prosperity on every aspect of human life. However, the adverse and harmful effects of it, including the ethics problems, turn out to be serious. Concerning these problems, purpose of this study is set to investigate the actual state of ethics awareness on information and communication, since ethics awareness is required more urgently than ever in this era of technology. While adolescents, who will lead the future society, comprise the majority of internet usage population in our nation, they are exposed to the harmful and risky contents in the periods during which their world view would be established. Furthermore, the problems emerging in the progress towards information-oriented society are jeopardizing the dignity and inherent value of human being, therefore causing the serious moral chaos and social problems. In this paper, the awareness level of middle school students in Gwangju City has been investigated especially in the aspect of information and communication. Based on the results, it is revealed that the efforts of government, social organization, students' parents as well as the education circles are essential. Also the proposal for improvement on the awareness level has been presented.

  • This study is a descriptive research study to understand the relationship between nursing professional intuition, artificial intelligence ethics, and digital health literacy of nursing college students. There was no difference in nursing professional intuition, artificial intelligence ethics, and digital health literacy according to the general characteristics of the subject. In addition, nursing professionals were found to have a significant positive correlation with artificial intelligence ethics consciousness and digital health literacy, and artificial intelligence ethics consciousness was found to have a significant positive correlation with digital health literacy. These results can be used as basic data for preparing educational programs that can strengthen digital health literacy capabilities by cultivating artificial intelligence ethics as well as nursing professionals of nursing college students.

  • As mobile devices have rapidly spread to consumers, services with location information have been developed. The service that they provide related information by positioning automatically is referred to as 'Location-Based Service'. This paper suggests the ways that users instruct the students proper ethics in advance, after saving their moving course and offensive businesses in database, with 'Location-Based Service', by positioning their movements, especially the degree of breaking away from their course and the cases of their access to an offensive business and their stay in crime-prone areas, and comparing them to those in the database.

  • This study aimed to introduce a case study of a basic engineering design course using the ENACT model for fostering social responsibility of engineers, and to investigate the educational effects of the course. Since the ENACT model was designed to encourage STEM college students to pursue responsible problem solving based on their understanding of socioscientific issues, we assumed that it would be beneficial for engineering students to foster their social responsibility as well as their understanding of science/engineering-related issues. A total of 49 engineering students who enrolled in the course participated in the study. Data included students' course artifacts, reflection papers, and responses to survey questionnaires. Results indicated that the students became more aware of nature of science and technology after the program, and began to solve the problems while considering the views of multiple stakeholders. They highly valued the experience of communicating with others as engaging in the civic activities. They also expressed high satisfaction and feeling of achievement on the course learning. We expect the ENACT model to be an effective teaching guideline that fosters the social responsibility of engineering students and furthermore, engineering ethics.

  • This thesis attempts to describe the basis and value system respectively selected by opinions pro and against bio engineering technology and to induce discussions on the basis of the concept called 'two culture' issue by C. P. Snow - science culture, human culture, a teleological ethical theory and a deontological ethical theory, traditional eugenics, and liberalism eugenics. In addition, it will discuss about inconvenient truth about science and bio engineering which we have wrongly understood up to now - a myth on objectivity of science, autonomy of science and a scientist, a hunger of world, science expected to be responsible for all men. Lastly, it will describe study ethics and social responsibility, openness, moral imagination, self-examination, character of a bio engineer as professionalism.

  • This paper examines the academic basis, current status, and future directions of liberal education for engineers as consilience education. After paying attention to the lists of liberal education for engineers including history of technology, technology and society, engineering ethics, economics of technology, management of technology, and technology policy, I found the academic basis of liberal education for engineers in science and technology studies or innovation studies. And then I monitored how liberal education for engineers is managed focusing on the case of Pusan National University and introduced new attempts on liberal education for engineers in other universities in Korea. Lastly, the future directions for the development of liberal education for engineers were suggested such as the strengthening of lecturers' expertise, the reconstruction of engineering education course, and the promotion of relevant academic associations' cooperation.
