The details of engine data are essentially needed for engine modeling and simulation. But, the engine data are kept secret because the information is company's experiential property. In this paper performed the performance modeling of the mixed flow turbofan engine cycles from the general available engine data, and verify the validity.

Recently, according to the tendency to the more comfortable automobile, the improvement of performance of the cooling fan is required. The performance of cooling fan is affected by many peripheral parts, such as radiator, condenser, engine block and etc. Therefore, it is important to consider the effect of peripheral components on the fan performance in design and analysis stages. In this paper, the performance of automobile cooling fan is investigated experimentally by using the large capacity fan tester based on the ASHRAE and the AMCA standards. In particular, the various spacing between cooling fan and engine block are considered to obtain the effect of engine block. An empirical relation between the fan flow rate and the spacing was proposed.

The present work was conducted to achieve the better understanding of the performance analysis technique for the expander type air turbo ramjet engine. For this purpose, the performance analysis was carried out using a small engine(8.0kN thrust) with two types of fuels. From this analysis, at the same input condition, the thrust of methane-fueled engine was 25% lower than that of hydrogen. In addition, the case of methane shows the inapplicable engine performance cycle.(i.e., The compressor work exceeds the turbine output power) These results come mainly from the different heating value of each fuel and specific heat. This analysis also shows that, to build a same performance cycle as the hydrogen case, the methane-fueled engine requires increased air and fuel flow rates, increased turbine expansion ratio, and decreased compressor pressure ratio.

In this paper, an experimental study is carried out under the operating conditions of low speed and rapid acceleration in order to investigate and improve the response characteristics of a turbocharged diesel engine with radial turbine driven by exhaust gas. A rapid acceleration for investigating the response performance is applied to the fuel-pump rack of the engine from 0-10% to 0-40% in steps of 10%, and accelerating time of 1, 2 and 3 seconds is applied to the engine. Further experiment for improving the low speed torque and acceleration performance is also performed by means of injecting air into the inlet manifold at compressor exit during the period of low speed and application of a rapid acceleration. The effects of air injection on the response performance are represented at subjected engine speed with the changes of response performance factors such as air injection pressure, air injection period, accelerating rate, accelerating time and load. From the experimental results obtained throughout this study, it is shown that air injection into the inlet manifold at compressor exit is closely related to the improvement of low speed and acceleration performance of a turbocharged diesel engine.
The characteristics of air flow and engine performance with swirl ratio variance of intake port In a turbocharged DI diesel engine was studied in this paper. The intake port flow is important factor which have influence on the engine performance and exhaust emission because the properties in the injected fuel depend on the combustion characteristics. The swirl ratio for ports was modified by hand-working and measured by impulse swirl meter. For the effects on performance and emission, the brake torque and brake specific fuel consumption were measured by engine dynamometer and NOx, smoke were measured by gas analyzer and smoke meter. As a result of steady flow test, when the valve eccentricity ratio are closed to cylinder wall, the flow coefficient and swirl intensity are increased. And as the swirl ratio is increased, the mean flow coefficient is decreasing, whereas the gulf factor is increasing. Also, through engine test its can be expected to meet performance and emission by optimizing the main parameters; the swirl ratio of intake port, injection timing and compression ratio.

It is not easy to monitor and identify all engine faults and conditions using conventional fault detection approaches like the GPA (Gas Path Analysis) method due to the nature and complexity of the faults. This study therefore focuses on a model based diagnostic method using Neural Network algorithms proposed for fault detection on a turbo shaft engine (PW 206C) selected as the power plant for a tilt rotor type unmanned aerial vehicle (Smart UAV). The model based diagnosis should be performed by a precise performance model. However component maps for the performance model were not provided by the engine manufacturer. Therefore they were generated by a new component map generation method, namely hybrid method using system identification and genetic algorithms that identifies inversely component characteristics from limited performance deck data provided by the engine manufacturer. Performance simulations at different operating conditions were performed on the PW206C turbo shaft engine using SIMULINK. In order to train the proposed BPNN (Back Propagation Neural Network), performance data sets obtained from performance analysis results using various implanted component degradations were used. The trained NN system could reasonably detect the faulted components including the fault pattern and quantity of the study engine at various operating conditions.

Testing engine performance using an engine dynamometer requires high technical researchers and many facilities. Nowadays, different variables of CAE program are used for identifying the engine performance instead of engine dynamometer test. This is more convenience, as it does not necessitate an abundance of engine dynamometer experiments and, in addition, produces better results. However, CAE programs also contain various variables which can affect engine performance. Those are coupled with each other, thus making it difficult to determine the effectiveness of different variables on engines. DoE (Design of Experiments) methodology is an efficient way to verify the magnitude of effectiveness on engine performance as well as making responses to be optimized at once without trial & error. This study used data from WAVE simulations, which modeled the DOHC SI engine with in-line 4 cylinders at 1500, 3000 and 4500rpm. DoE methodology is designed properly to determine the effectiveness of five variables on power, BSFC, and volumetric efficiency, as well as to find the optimal response conditions at each rpm through a minimized number of experiments. After finishing DoE process, all the results are examined concerning the reliability of test through a verification experiment.

A test stand was developed to measure static performance of a reciprocating engine on the ground, related to the small aircraft being developed by KARI. The test stand consists of an apparatus to install and operate a pusher-type propulsion system and a data acquisition system to process many performance parameters including engine torque and propeller thrust as well as monitoring of the engine operations. First, the performance data from the basic operation tests were compared with the original engine data so the capacity of the test stand was verified. Engine performance tests were carried out with various test conditions through three stages, and it was measured and analyzed that the manifold pressure, the torque, and the back pressure of the engine, and the static thrust of the propeller.
A driving vehicle performance which is driven by FTP-75 mode was simulated by computer. Throttle valve position, engine speed, air mass flow rate, fuel consumption et al. were computer simulated. A set of engine part load performance data, automatic transmission shift map and vehicle specifications were used for the computer simulation. Throttle valve position, engine speed, air mass flow rate et al. measured for evaluating the computer simulation results by driving the vehicle with FTP-75 mode on a chassis dynamometer. GT-Power$^{(R)}$ software was used for the computer simulation of the driving vehicle performance. Experimental fuel consumption rate was measured by using an ECU HILS fuel injection system. The experimental data and simulation results were compared. The computer simulation of the driving vehicle performance predicts the measured data well comparatively.

The objective of this study is to investigate the atomization characteristics and the performance characteristics of a C. I. engine by using the changes of the injection nozzle type and the ultrasonic-energy-added system. In order to evaluate the effect of ultrasonic energy and of change of injection nozzle type in the performance characte- ristics of a diesel engine, measurements of droplet size of diesel fuel were carried out by using Malvern system. In all types of injection nozzles, SMD of the ultrasonic- energy -added diesel fuel was smaller than that of the conventional diesel fuel and the more injection pressure increased, the more SMD decreased. There was a small increase in SMD with the distance from injection nozzle under all conditions of the injection nozzle types. The minimum SMD was found in the injection nozzle of B type. In the diesel engine test, there were three results about the engine performance. Compared with the injection nozzle of A type, B type had excellent effects in the engine performance. The most excellent effects about the engine performance were obtained in the case of ultrasonic-energy-added diesel fuel. In addition, the torque diagram in the case of ultrasonic-energy-added diesel fuel was more stable and periodical than others.
