대형디젤엔진의 열적 피로안전도 분석을 위한 유한요소해석 (Finite Element Analysis of Thermal Fatigue Safety for a Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine)

  • Finite element analysis was performed to analyze structural safety of a new heavy-duty direct injection diesel engine. A half section of the in-line 6-cylinder engine was selected as a computational domain. A mapping method was used to project heat transfer coefficients from CFD results of engine coolant flow onto the FE model. The accurate setting of thermal boundary condition on the FE model was expected to result in improved prediction of temperature, cylinder bore distortion, and stresses. Characteristics of high cycle fatigue were investigated by assuming the engine was operated under the following five loading conditions repeatedly; assembly force, assembly force with thermal loading, alternating maximum gas pressure loading at each cylinder combined with assembly force and thermal loading. Distribution of fatigue safety factor was calculated by using it Haigh diagram in which the maximum and the minimum stresses were selected from the five loading cases.

이중분사식 수소기관의 비정상 열부하 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Unsteady Thermal Loading of Hydrogen Engine with Dual Injection)

  • To measure of thermal loading in the combustion chamber of hydrogen engine with dual injection, instantaneous wall-surface temperature and unsteady heat flux of the cylinder head are measured and analyzed. The maximum wall surface temperature is shown in direct injection region which has large heat supplied. Partial and spatial temperatures have slight deviation in transient region of injection, though injection method change suddenly. All of thermal characteristics such as instantaneous temperature, temperature swing and heat flux of hydrogen engine with dual injection are remarkably higher than those of gasoline engine. It means necessity of additional countermeasure of thermal loading.

  • The convection heat transfer coefficients on the top surface of a large liquid petroleum liquid injection(LPLi) engine piston are analyzed by solving an inverse thermal conduction problem. The heat transfer coefficients are numerically found so that the difference between analyzed temperatures from the finite element method and measured temperatures is minimized. Using the resulting heat transfer coefficients as the boundary condition, temperature of a large LPLi engine piston is analyzed.

가스터빈 엔진용 고속 베어링의 상세 설계를 위한 베어링 하중 조건에 관한 연구 (A Study of Loading Conditions for Developing the High-speed Bearings of the Gas-turbine Engine)

  • 본 연구에서는 가스 터빈 엔진용 고속 베어링 설계의 첫 단계로 엔진 작동 조건에 따른 베어링 하중을 도출한다. 대상 가스터빈 엔진의 베어링에는 공력 하중, 자중, 가속에 따른 관성력이 부여된다. 이에 3-D 공간상에서의 힘 평형 조건과 자이로스코픽 효과를 고려한 모멘트 평형식을 기반으로 베어링에 부가되는 하중을 예측한다. 최종적으로 합동운용규격지침서(Joint Service Specification Guide)에 제시된 엔진 운용 조건으로부터 과도상태 최대, 최소 베어링 하중 조건 및 정상상태 최대, 최소 베어링 하중 조건을 도출한다. 본 연구를 통해 확보된 베어링 하중 조건은 추후 설계 단계인 베어링의 형상 설계와 성능 검증 시험의 경계 조건으로 활용될 것이다.

과급에 의한 흡입공기 보상 시 저속 디젤-아트킨슨사이클에서 엔진성능에 대한 연구 (A Study on Engine Performance at the Intake Air Compensation by Supercharging in the Low Speed Diesel-Atkinson Cycle)

  • 본 연구에서는 고팽창사이클의 경우 가변밸브시스템을 구성하여 흡기밸브 닫힘시기를 늦추는 방식으로 실현하였고, 저압축에 따른 흡입공기의 감소는 과급압력으로 해결하였다. 이와 같이 디젤기관에 아트킨슨사이클을 실현하여 엔진의 열효율향상 가능성을 알아보았다. 그 결과 흡기밸브 닫힘시기 ABDC $40^{\circ}$ 부터 ABDC $80^{\circ}$ 까지 전 영역에 걸쳐 열효율 및 출력의 향상이 있었다. 다만, 흡기밸브 닫힘시기가 ABDC $70^{\circ}$이후로는 열효율 증가 폭이 둔화되는 경향을 보였다. 위와 같은 연구결과 저속 디젤-아트킨슨사이클화의 최적 연소조건은 흡기밸브 닫힘시기가 ABDC $70^{\circ}$전후로 보이며, 고부하영역이 저부하영역보다 더 효과적으로 나타났고, 중부하영역에서 기관운전은 안정적이었다. 이때 정미열효율은 통상의 디젤기관보다 평균 약 12.5% 높게 나타났다.

디젤 입자상물질의 크기분포 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Size Distribution of Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM))

  • Diesel particulate matter (DPM) is known to be one of the major harmful emissions produced by diesel engines. The majority of diesel particles are in the range of smaller than $I{\mu}\textrm{m}$. Because of their tiny volume, ultrafine diesel particles contribute very little to the total mass concentration which is currently regulated for automobile emissions. Diesel particles are known to have deleterious effects upon human health because they penetrate human respiratory tract and have negative effects on the health. The measurement of the number distribution of nanometer size particles (nanoparticles) in the diesel exhaust emission is important in order to evaluate their environmental and health impact, and to develop new types of diesel particulate filters. In this study, we directly sampled particulate matters emitted from a diesel truck mounted on the chassis dynamometer by a flow separator and dilution system, and measured the nanoparticles using two types of differential mobility analyzers combined with a Faraday cup electrometer (FCE) and a condensation particle counter (CPC). The particle size distributions were analyzed by changing engine operation condition, i.e. ratio of engine loading. The total number concentration of particles were increased with the engine loading ratio and the nanoparticles (less than 50nm) were affected by hydrocarbon (HC) concentration in the diesel exhaust.

  • Moving parts of the rotating and reciprocating mechanism are the most important components of the diesel engines and require very high reliability in their design. Especially the crankshaft, the key component of running gear (powertrain), is subject to complicated loadings such as bending, shear and torsion coming from firing pressure, inertia forces and torsional vibration of crankshaft system. Intrinsically they show different cyclic patterns of loading in both direction and magnitude, and thus ordinary approach of proportional loading is less valid to analyze the dynamic structural behavior of crankshaft. In this paper, new fatigue analysis method is introduced to analyze and design the crankshaft of a medium-speed diesel engine in order to consider the non-proportional multi-axial loads realistically as well as to present the general fatigue analysis approach for an engine crankshaft.

익형과 엔진 종류를 고려한 도로주행형 PAV 초기 사이징 (Initial Sizing of a Roadable PAV Considering Airfoil and Engine Types)

  • 많은 나라들에서 늘어가는 자동차로 인한 교통체증에 대체 할 수 있는 새로운 교통수단에 대한요구가 증가하고 있다. 또한, 경제적인 성장으로 인한 자동차 보유 대수의 증가로 앞으로 교통체증은 더욱 증가할 것이다. 이를 위해 도로주행형 개인용 항공기(PAV; personal air vehicle)에 관한 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 도로주행형 PAV의 사이징에서 엔진과 익형의 종류에 따른 주요 설계 변수인 익면하중과 동력대중량비를 구하기 위한 사이징을 수행하였다. 즉, 사이징 과정에서 국내 환경과 일반 항공기급 인증기준인 FAR PART 23을 고려한 임무형상에 대하여 익면하중, 동력대중량비, 제동마력, 그리고 연료효율의 그래프를 통해서 설계점을 결정하는 연구도 수행하였다. 사이징 결과 디젤 엔진을 사용하는 경우 가솔린 엔진보다 더 큰 중량으로 인해 더 큰 이륙총중량, 날개 면적, 그리고 더 큰 동력을 요구한다.

  • As the preliminary stage for the countermeasure of thermal loading in miller cycle engine, coolant flows in the cylinder head of base engine including exhaust valve bridge were visualized and analyzed by using PIV technique. It was found that low coolant velocity regions were around exhaust valve bridge, around which stagnation of the coolant flow was observed due to the complex geometry configuration of water jacket. And velocity variation between each cylinder was remarkable. For the countermeasure of these, it is necessary to enhance coolant flow around exhaust valve bridge and to improve the deviation of coolant flow between each cylinder.

  • The heavy duty diesel engine must have a large output for maintaining excellent mobility. The compacted graphite iron (CGI) is a material currently under study for the engine demanded for high torque, durability, stiffness and fatigue. In this study, three dimensional finite element model of a heavy-duty diesel engine was developed to conduct the stress analysis by using property of CGI. The FE model of the heavy duty diesel engine section consisting with four half cylinder was selected. The heavy duty diesel engine section include cylinder block, cylinder head, liner, bearing cap, bearing and bolt. The loading conditions of engine are pre-fit load, assembly force and gas force.
