  • An intelligent speed control system for marine diesel engines is presented. The approach adopt¬ed is to use a conventional PID controller for normal operation and a feedforward controller for adaptive control. The feedforward controller is a neural network. The neural network is the inverse dynamics model of the plant, which is being trained on line. The parametric model of the diesel engine is represented in a linear second-order system, with a first-order combustion part and a revolution part each at a normal operating point. The time delay in the control of the com¬bustion part is approximated to the first-order system. The tuned PID parameters are set based on the model for normal operating point. To obtain the inverse dynamics of the diesel engine system, two neural networks are used, one for inverse, the other for forward dynamics. The former is posi¬tioned across the plant to learn its inverse dynamics during operation, and the latter is placed in series with the controlled plant. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the applicability of the proposed scheme to intelligent adaptive control of diesel engines.

  • This paper describes the method to investigate combustion pressure in the cylinder without modifications of engine. Assuming engine dynamics as a single degree of freedom cylinder pressure is estimated using the variation of crank shaft speed. For this study pressure, crank shaft sped, and load are sampled by the crank angle. This study suggests the variation of crank shaft speed can be used as parameters of feedback engine control.

  • The elastic effects of the valve train components are analyzed by using the finite element models of the rocker arm and valve. The whole equations of motion of the valvetrain of an internal combustion engine formulated by finite element techniques are solved by imposing the contact conditions with the augmented Lagrange multiplier method. The velocity and acceleration constraints as well as the displacement constraints are imposed on the contact points. The numerical simulations show that, even if the magnitude of the elastic deformation of the components is very small, it may have large effects on the valvetrain dynamics of a high-speed engine.

  • The aim of this study is to relieve the poor ventilation problem of the diesel locomotive engine load test building, located in an urban area. This paper evaluates the ventilation performances of the studied load test building based on the temperature measurement experiment and the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) during the engine load test. The temperature rise caused by the radiator blower of the building was turned out to be the main cause of disturbing the thermal conditions of the building. The indoor temperature distributions simulated by Fluent were validated with the temperature measurement results obtained from the studied building. The simulation results indicated that the comfort condition of this building was poor We suggested several remedial changes in the duct structure of this building for the improvement of the comfort conditions. In addition, a prototype drawing combining several improved design options was proposed. and then the simulation of the temperature distribution in the proposed prototype was performed. The result indicated that the indoor thermal condition of this proposed building was improved when compared with that of the current building.

  • This paper presents a model predictive control (MPC) based on a neural network (NN) model for air/fuel ration (AFR) control of automotive engines. The novelty of the paper is that the severe nonlinearity of the engine dynamics are modelled by a NN to a high precision, and adaptation of the NN model can cope with system uncertainty and time varying effects. A single dimensional optimization algorithm is used in the paper to speed up the optimization so that it can be implemented to the engine fast dynamics. Simulations on a widely used mean value engine model (MVEM) demonstrate effectiveness of the developed method.

  • A nonlinear dynamic simulation model from cranking to idle speed is developed to optimize the cold start process of a diesel engine. Physically-based first order nonlinear differential equations and some algebraic equations describing engine dynamics and starter motor dynamics are used to model the performance of cold starting process which is very complex and involves many components including the cold start aiding method. These equations are solved using numerical schemes to describe the starting process of a diesel engine and to study the effects of cold starting parameters. The validity of this model is examined by a cold start test at $-20^{\circ}C$. Using the developed model the effects of the important starting variables on the cold starting processes were investigated. This model can be served as a tool for designing computer aided control systems that improve cold start performance.

  • A graphic simulator is efficient to see what will happen to the target robot. But it is not exactly same as the real world. Because there are so many physical laws to be concerned. In this paper, we propose a simulator with physics engine to create motions for quadruped robot. It is not only to show more real simulations but also to be more efficient for teaching motions to quadruped robot. To solve the quadruped robot's dynamics or inverse kinematics, It takes much times and hard effort. Using physics engine make it easy to setup motions without calculating inverse kinematics or dynamics.

  • A comprehensive numerical analysis has been carried out for both non-reacting and reacting flows in a scramjet engine combustor with and without a cavity. The theoretical formulation treats the complete conservation equations of chemically reacting flows with finite-rate chemistry of hydrogen-air. Turbulence closure is achieved by means of a k-$\omega$ two-equation model. The governing equations are discretized using a MUSCL-type TVD scheme, and temporally integrated by a second-order accurate implicit scheme. Transverse injection of hydrogen is considered over a broad range of injection pressure. The corresponding equivalence ratio of the overall fuel/air mixture ranges from 0.167 to 0.50. The work features detailed resolution of the flow and flame dynamics in the combustor, which was not typically available in most of the previous studies. In particular, the oscillatory flow characteristics are captured at a scale sufficient to identify the .underlying physical mechanisms. Much of the flow unsteadiness is related not only to the cavity, but also to the intrinsic unsteadiness in the flow-field. The interactions between the unsteady flow and flame evolution may cause a large excursion of flow oscillation. The roles of the cavity, injection pressure, and heat release in determining the flow dynamics are examined systematically.

  • Tracking control of an arbitrary reference has been discussed for 7Th order 2-input 2-output non-minimum phase EGR/VGT diesel engines. To meet strict emission regulations and customer demands, the desired set points, the air-fuel ratio and the ERG flow fraction, determined from a static engine data based on engine speed and the desired fueling rate are transformed into the set points for the two sensor measurement outputs. Applying the sliding mode tracking control theory proposed by Jeong and Utkin, two step design was carried out using the bounded solution of an unstable zero dynamics for the given reference signals. This paper shows through simulations how stabilization of unstable zero dynamics and reference tracking can be accomplished simultaneously.
