  • The intake noise of an automobile induced by firing of an engine accompanies acoustic resonances of ducts of an intake system. Conventionally, the adoption of the Helmholtz type resonator was one of possible ways to eliminate the booming noise due to acoustic resonances of air ducts. Although the Helmholtz type resonator is convenient to attenuate the intake noise of an automobile, the usage of the Helmholtz type resonator requires cost increase or big engine room space. Therefore, reduction of the number of the resonators or the volume of the resonators is essential to increase the value of an automobile. To meet these requirements, other types of resonator are suggested instead of the Helmholtz type resonator. The effectiveness of the suggested resonators is compared considering noise reduction ability, effect to the engine performance and size of each resonator.

  • Reduction of structure-borne noise of the compartment in a car is an important task in automotive engineering. Transfer path analysis using vibroacoustic reciprocity technique or multiple path decomposition method has generally been used for structure-borne noise path analysis. These methods are useful in solving particular problem but do net quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation of each isolator of a vehicle. To quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation, the vibrational power flow has been used for a simple isolation system or a laboratory based isolation system. It is often difficult to apply the vibrational power flow technique to the complex isolation system like a car. In this paper, a simple equation is derived for calculation of the vibrational power flow of an isolation system with multiple isolators such as a car. It is successfully applied to not only quantifying the relative contributions of eighteen isolators but also reducing structure-borne noise of a passenger car. According to the results, the main contributor of eighteen isolators is the rear roll mount of an engine. The reduced structure-borne noise level is about 5dBA.

  • The powertrain is a system of exciters which are connected by vibration transmitters and noise radiators. The powertrain has infinite natural frequencies. If the engine explosion, excites a certain natural frequency, then the powertrain system seriously vibrates. The torsional vibration arises from here. Torsional vibration like this can cause various noises as rattle and booming. In this study, the simulation models of multiple degrees of freedom were developed to reduce the torsional vibration of the powertrain. These models are combined mass moment of inertias with torsional springs. The free and forced vibration analyses were carried out by these models; and the validity of the simulation models were checked by the field test. The reduction effect of the torsional vibration along the driveline design factor is presented by the analytical results.

  • The active noise cancellation system showing the effective convergence and stability has been studied by simplifying the controller structures using the weighting factors of control error path to the multi-channel filtered-x LMS algorithm which needs a lot of calculations and the performance has been verified experimentally. Besides, to implement the system performance in a vehicle cabin, experimental work for selecting the suitable numbers and positions of the microphones and speakers was accomplished. Effectively combining a TMS 320C 31 main processor conducting real number calculations and having various functions with other components, the purpose-built system board for active noise cancellation has been designed and with this board, car active noise cancellation system showing maximum stable 10dB noise reduction has been obtained at the car idling conditions above 3000rpm range.

  • Idle NVH characteristics are one of the most important aspects among the vehicle performances. Vehicle developers are devoted to improve vehicle interior noise and steering wheel and seat vibrations. In order to improve the idle quality, noise and vibration transfer path should be carefully evaluated. Also, effects of various components related to the idle performance should be confirmed. A general procedure for improving the idle qualify is described in detail. The relationship among cylinder pressure characteristics, crankshaft rotational speed variation, and vehicle vibrations is also investigated. Influences of drive shaft, torque converter, air conditioning system, vehicle structure including engine mount system, and idle control parameters on the vehicle idle quality are studied. Weak points of typical vehicles on the idle qualify are identified. Some of improvement measures are proposed and verified.

  • Torsional vibration is to vibrate strongly when the ignition pulses of the engine is excited with natural frequency of driveline. Torsional vibration like this can cause various noises as rattle and booming. For this study multi-degree of freedom analysis model of torsional vibration, which is combined with mass moment of inertia and torsional spring, was developed toward two wheel drive, four wheel drive and torsional vibration characteristics were compared and analyzed through the natural frequences, mode shapes and frequency response characteristics which was acquired by the simulation of it. The pertinence of that model was proved by the field test and the outcome of the simulations coincided with feeling test. Therefore, four wheel drive simulation model is considered to be useful thing for reducing torsional vibration of driveline and developing full-time four wheel drive vehicles.

  • The international competition in car markets has continuously required the research about the sound quality of a car. The domestic carmakers have also invested a lot of money for the research and development of interior sound quality of passenger cars. Therefore, the aim of this research is to predict the customer's evaluation of a new vehicle. There are two major research works to achieve this goal in this research. The first one is to search questionnaires about the sound quality, which customers prefer, to identify the relationship between these questionnaires and sound metrics that is a psychoacoustics parameters, and to development sound indexes for the questionnaires. All tests for this work is proceed on the road test during acceleration. The second one is to balance the sound component (engine noise, booming noise, road noise and wind noise) of a passenger. This wok will be tested on the constant speed. All of research results will be contributed to the development of brand sound quality of a new passenger car.

  • Due to the widespread smartphones and application stores, mobile application developments are now booming again in the same manner of PC history. The smartphone software development process, however, gives much inconvenience to developers because of the heterogeneous platform APIs and hardware incompatibility between different devices. To make clear these problems, mobile web applications are being accepted as an alternative to the native smartphone applications. Mobile web applications can be developed more simply and easily than native applications by using webkit engine's html, Java script, and CSS. Additionally developers can provide a platform-independent applications since web applications are going to run on web browsers. In this paper, we develop a personal applications store running on an android phone's browsers. We can accomplish this very simply by using webkit's various APIs such as OpenID. We can find out by implementing a real web application that development of web applications can surpass the native one in cost and time period without much loss of performance.

  • In this paper, a new indirect feedback active noise control (ANC) scheme based on the fundamental frequency estimation is proposed for systems with a harmonic noise. When reference signals necessary for feedforward ANC configuration is difficult to obtain, the conventional ANC algorithms for multi-tonal noise do not measure the reference signals but generate them with the estimated frequencies. However, the beating phenomena, in which certain frequency components of the noise vanish intermittently, may make the adaptive frequency estimation difficult. The confusion in the estimated frequencies due to the beating phenomena makes the generated reference signals worthless. The proposed algorithm consists of two parts. The first part is a reference generator using the fundamental frequency estimation and the second one is the conventional feedforward control. We propose the fundamental frequency estimation algorithm using decision rules, which is insensitive to the beating phenomena. In addition, the proposed fundamental frequency estimation algorithm has good tracking capability and lower variance of frequency estimation error than that of the conventional cascade ANF method. We are also able to control all interested modes of the noise, even which cannot be estimated by the conventional frequency estimation method because of the poor SIN ratio. We verify the performance of the proposed ANC method through simulations for the measured cabin noise of a passenger ship and the measured time-varying engine booming noise of a passenger vehicle.

  • Human trafficking is a booming underground business and is the fastest growing and criminal activity in today's society. The use of coercion or fraud marks the territory of trafficking. Most people trafficked suffer constant threats, violence, and forced acts while imprisoned by their traffickers. Such human trafficking entails significant problems not only for the victims but also for the economies and community health. Large corporations overseas have also been known to partake in the sex slave industry. Another hidden cost to the global economy is the cost of law enforcement and anti-trafficking measures being implemented. Further, sex Trafficking carries many potential health consequences, one of the biggest risks is HIV infection. That means, sex trafficking is an engine of the global AIDS epidemic with one study portraying nearly fifty six percent of all sex slaves having HIV or AIDS. Therefore, many of people are being infected with HIV and many other diseases every day through contact with the sex slave industry costing millions to society and the global economy. in this study, the author presents a case study of trafficking against Nepalese women. Nepalese women being trafficked are found to have a high prevalence of HIV infection. In conclusion and discussion, a few of solutions needed to be addressed for controling human trafficking for sex slavery suggested.
