  • The correct and opportune decision of reengaging the intercepted target is required in order to enhance the engagement performance of the surface to air missile systems that has the ability to defense or attack against various targets at the same time. The engagement efficiency and success of these systems will be largely enhanced by assigning quickly its system resources to the intercepted target and minimizing the waste of system resources for the target which is not able to attack any more. The kill-assessment algorithm has to be able to evaluate automatically whether various targets intercepted by missiles are killed or not on the basis of the reasonable confidence level. The definition of kill assessment is discussed and the kill assessment algorithm is designed reliably by using Kalman filter and a probability theory. Finally its performance is evaluated and analyzed by the Monte Carlo simulation.

  • Simulation Framework is a basic software tool used to develop simulation applications. This paper describes the development of a discrete event simulation framework based on DEVS(Discrete EVent System Specification) formalism, using MATLAB language which is widely used in technical computing and engineering disciplines. The newly developed framework utilizing MATLAB object oriented programming combines the convenience of MATLAB language and the sophisticated architecture of the DEVS formalism. Hence, it supports the productivity, flexibility, extensibility that are required for the simulation application software development of the weapon systems engagement. Moreover, it promises a simulation application the increased the computation speed proportional to the number of CPU of a multi-core processor, providing the batch simulation functionality based on MATLAB parallel computing technology.

  • In this paper, in order to analyze the performance of a decoy system for ship defense against an anti-ship missile(ASM) with an infrared image(IIR) seeker, the modeling and engagement simulation program is introduced. The IIR seeker on the ASM detects the infrared signal of ship from a distance and approaches the ship based on proportional navigation guidance(PNG) or impact angle control guidance(IACG). Hence the guidance performance of the ASM is basically depend on the target tracking algorithm of the seeker as well as the infrared signal of the ship. Using the developed program, we can investigate the effect of the ship decoy system such as flares and surface cooling system of the ship with respect to various kinds of tracking algorithms of the IIR seeker of the ASM.

  • In this paper, we describe the implementation methods and algorithms for the various technologies and devices required for the construction of the engagement HILS(Hardware In the Loop Simulation) in the limited space to simulate the high-speed maneuvering encounter situation of the weapon system in 3-dimensional real world space. Through this research, we have been able to suggest ways to analyze the major design elements of future electronic warfare equipment through experiments simulating actual engagements between various high-speed maneuvering weapons systems and electronic warfare devices in the future battlefield. It was confirmed that the M&S technology could be used to eliminate technical risks, reduce development cost, and shorten development time in the future real system development. The results of this study can be a great assist not only for the field of electronic warfare system research and development, but also for the research & implementation on HILS of various engaging class weapons systems.

  • The Korean naval weapon systems, combat experiments establish the concept of Battle operations, and create the future of the new weapons system. Doctrine development and training as well as ranging from experiments for evaluate the performance of mission operations for combat experiments are used. The battle lab is effectively support tool for the Korean Naval battle experiments. The battle lab is through a dedicated testing facility and to build efficient and effective simulation-based acquisition supporting environment. In this paper, the ship / submarines C2 operations virtual simulator was developed to support the concept of Battle operations of naval combat experiments in training and tactical development. The ship C2 operations virtual simulator makes the anti-ship and anti-aircraft the engagement scenario for performed experiments using the SADM. The submarines C2 operations virtual simulator makes the anti-submarine engagement scenario for performed experiments using EAS. EAS System was created before reuse. EAS system by modifying the additional interfaces HLA-RTI has been reused. Reflected in the tactics and training after analysis of the results through the battle experiment. Also increase training fidelity through operator involvement. The anti-ship and anti-aircraft system architecture (SADM) and anti-submarine system architecture (EAS) requires unique design of system framework since two separate architectures should be integrated into a system. An C2 virtual linked architecture was used to integrate different system architecture. A C2 virtual linked software framework, designed that have integrated protocol for battle experimental linkage and battlefield visualization environment.

  • In this paper, the multi-resolution simulation of standard linkage architecture is consists of the engineering-level (QUEST), engagement-level (SADM), the mission-level (EADSIM). It was developed the engineering-level model using battle experiment integrated development environment in the battle experimental engineering system. The engagement level model was developed using the SADM and the mission-level model was developed using EADSIM. The standard linkage architecture is designed and implemented in order to interlocking model of multiple layers. Each different simulation programs in a distributed environment was designed by HLA interface specifications for satisfying interworking. Also the integrated interoperation gateway was developed for relaying the each different simulation programs. The effective naval weapon system for measure of effectiveness develops using to improve the fidelity of the model between the various layers through multi-resolution interoperation simulation. According to the operator requirement is quickly battlefield environment can be constructed. The other simulation program that being designed through standards linkage architecture can linkage easily and efficiently.

  • In this paper, there is a research for providing environmental data to reflect environmental effects to the simulation for the aviation weapon systems by the construction of the synthetic battlefield. The results of the aviation engagement simulation are able to differ by environmental effect. This paper analyzes the real aviation battlefield and designs the synthetic battlefield based on the analysis. In order to construct the designed synthetic battlefield, we collects the real environmental data for the atmosphere and structures the collected data using GIS (Geographic information system interpolation). The main objective of this paper is to design the synthetic battlefield based on the derived environmental factors from the analysis of the real aviation battlefield, and it constructs the designed synthetic battlefield by the collection of real atmosphere data. The constructed synthetic battlefield provides the environmental data which are requested from the distributed simulation system, and it makes the system reflect environmental effects to the simulation.

  • Recent technological advancement has a profound effect on the ways that the war is being conducted and fought. The advanced communications, information, computing and sensor technologies enable the combat units to be integrated in the battlefield management network. By exchanging and sharing real-time battlefield information that is critical for the successful outcome of military engagement, the legacy forces are becoming much more effective and lethal than ever before, The bigger picture of such phenomena can be summarized as the concept of Network Centric Warfare(NCW). The main purpose of this study is to compare the outcome of regional combat engagement between the legacy forces and the future combat systems(FCS). The FCS capitalizes on the advanced technologies within the frame of NCW. This study uses the modeling and simulation methodology to assess the effectiveness of two different combat forces. The simulation results show that the FCS is more effective, hence vindicating the superiority of technologically advanced combat units.
