How do nuclear energy and stringent environmental policies contribute to achieving sustainable development targets?

  • In order to achieve sustainable development that balances economic growth, environmental protection, and social well-being and ensures a sustainable future, strict environmental regulations and sustainable nuclear energy production may play a vital role. Empirical works are insufficient when measuring the effects of strict environmental policies and nuclear energy production on sustainable development. This research aims to close this gap by examining how environmental policy stringency and nuclear energy production contribute to sustainable development in the top 17 nuclear energy-generating countries between 1995 and 2021. The research uses the linear and nonlinear CS-ARDL and PMG-ARDL models to achieve this goal. The linear model suggests that environmental policy stringency and nuclear energy production contribute to long-term sustainable development. In the nonlinear model, a positive change in environmental policy stringency and nuclear energy production causes long-run sustainable development to grow, while a negative change in environmental policy stringency and nuclear energy production hinders long-run sustainable development. Furthermore, environmental technologies, human capital, financial development, trade liberalization, and research and development expenditures are crucial for fostering long-run sustainable development. In contrast, the natural resource rents hurt sustainable development. These findings suggest that policymakers should consider combining strict environmental regulations and nuclear energy in devising policies for sustainable development.

  • In general, reliability of AHP depends on pairwise comparison of evaluators. In addition, human judgment on the importance of alternatives or criteria is always imprecise and vague. The Fuzzy AHP technique is suggested and used widely recently. In this paper, we prioritize future energy technology development for well focused R&D. We selected 3 criteria and 10 sub-criteria. According to the result in this study, the most important sub-criterion is the precedence over other competitive technology, the second is the possibility for fundamental technology acquisition, and the third is the improvement energy efficiency. The other side, the lowest important sub-criterion is the technology level compared with advanced countries.

지역난방 공동주택의 단지별 난방사용량 분석 연구 (Heating Energy Consumption Analysis of the Apartment Applied District Heating System)

  • The purpose of this study is performance validation of district heating apartments about heating energy consumption and analysis of energy consumption by unit characteristics. The heating energy consumption of the existing apartments was analyzed and the analyzed results will be used for energy saving technology development and policy making. The heating energy consumption data about total 78 apartment complexes, 56,910 units in Gangnam-Gu, Seoul, Korea were investigated from October, 2010 to April 2011. The analysis results are as follows; The mean heating energy consumption is 98[kWh/m2]. The energy consumption of Apgujung-Dong, Daechi-Dong is higher than that of mean valuse. The energy consumption deviation by deterioration, unit area, core type and regional group is very high. Specially, building deterioration casts a long shadow.

Characteristics of Cement Solidification of Metal Hydroxide Waste

  • To perform the permanent disposal of metal hydroxide waste from electro-kinetic decontamination, it is necessary to secure the technology for its solidification. The integrity tests on the fabricated solidification should also meet the criteria of the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency. We carried out the solidification of metal hydroxide waste using cement solidification. The integrity tests such as the compressive strength, immersion, leach, and irradiation tests on the fabricated cement solidifications were performed. It was also confirmed that these requirements of the criteria of Korea Radioactive Waste Agency on these cement solidifications were met. The microstructures of all the cement solidifications were analyzed and discussed.

  • The rapid changes of energy environment such as high oil price, united nations framework convention on climate change, and the hydrogen economy have been happening to provide national energy security in the 21st century, we need to build strategic approach for coping with energy environment. From a long-term viewpoint of energy technology development, it's time to develop energy technology with selection and specification. In this study, we build energy technology roadmap for establishing the hydrogen economy with a long-term strategy. We analyze economic spin-offs and commercial potential for establishing energy technology roadmap of energy technology development for establishing the hydrogen economy.
