Roughness of rock joint has generally been characterized based upon geometrical aspects of a two-dimensional surface profile. The appropriate description of joint roughness, however, should consider the features of roughness mobilization at contact areas under normal and shear loads. In this study, direct shear tests were conducted on the replicas of tensile fractured gneiss joints and the influence of the shear direction on the shear behavior and effective roughness was examined. In this procedure, a joint surface was represented as a group of triangular planes, and the steepness of each plane was characterized using the concepts of the active and inactive micro-slope angles. The contact areas at peak strength which were estimated by a numerical method showed that the locations of the contact areas were mainly dependent on the distribution of the micro-slope angle and the shear behavior of joint was dominated by only the fractions with active micro-slope angles. Therefore, a three-dimensional coefficient for the quantification of rock joint roughness is proposed based on the distribution of active micro-slope angle: active roughness coefficient, $C_r$. Comparison of the active roughness coefficient and the peak shear strength obtained from the experiment suggests that the active roughness coefficient is the effective parameter to quantify the surface roughness and estimate the shear behavior of rock joint.

Minerals play important roles in biological processes. Hair mineral analysis has the advantages of conveniences in sampling and observing the profiles of multiple minerals simultaneously. The purpose of this study was to compare hair mineral contents between urban and local middle school students, and to find out the relation with nutrient intakes and clinical symptoms. Ten nutritional minerals and 7 environmental mineral contents were analyzed in the hair samples of 44 and 37 male students who resided in urban and local area, respectively. And their nutrient intake and clinical symptom score were estimated from questionnaire. The average age, height, and weight were 15.1 years, 168.4 cm, 56.8 kg in urban subjects and 15.4 years, 169.1 cm, 61.9 kg in local subjects, respectively. The residence types were apartment (63.6%) and small-sized apartment (22.7%) in urban subjects and apartment (51.4%) and house (37.8%) in local subjects. The primary water sources were purified water (38.3%), running water (18.2%) in urban subjects and purified water (32.4%), underground water (27.0%) in local subjects, respectively. Daily energy and nutrient intakes were not significantly different between two groups. Among the surveyed 17 clinical symptoms, the scores of constipation, cold, anxieties and total score of clinical symptoms in urban subjects were significantly love. than those in local subjects. Hair contents of Na, Mg, Ca, Cu, V Al, As were significantly higher, while U was lower in urban subjects compared to those in rural subjects. Hair contents of Ni and U were significantly correlated with food intake, and Cr, V, Al, Sb, As, U showed a correlation with energy intake. Hair Mg level showed significantly negative correlation with total clinical symptom score. In conclusion, hair mineral profile between urban and local students was significantly different. And some of these minerals were significantly correlated with food and nutrient intakes. Especially hair magnesium was significantly correlated with total clinical symptom score. Therefore, hair mineral levels would be needed for more systematic study elucidating potentiality as a useful clinical tool.
The Frumkin adsorption isotherm of the over-potentially deposited hydrogen (OPD H) for the cathodic $H_2$ evolution reaction (HER) at the poly-Ni|0.05M KOH aqueous electrolyte interface has been studied using the phase-shift method. The behavior of the phase shift $(0^{\circ}\leq{\phi}\leq90^{\circ})$ for the optimum intermediate frequency corresponds well to that of the fractional surface coverage $(1\geq{\theta}\geq0)$ at the interface. The phase-shift method, i.e., the Phase-shift profile $(-{\phi}\;vs.\;E)$ for the optimum intermediate frequency, can be used as a new method to estimate the Frumkin adsorption isotherm $(\theta\;vs.\;E)$ of the OPD H for the cathodic HER at the interface. At the poly-Ni|0.05M KOH aqueous electrolyte interface, the rate (r) of change of the standard free energy of the OPD H with $\theta$, the interaction parameter (g) for the Frumkin adsorption isotherm, the equilibrium constant (K) for the OPD H with $\theta$, and the standard free energy $({\Delta}G_{\theta})$ of the OPD H with ${\theta}$ are $24.8kJ mol^{-1},\;10,\;5.9\times10^{-6}{\leq}K{\leq}0.13,\;and\;5.1\leq{\Delta}G_{\theta}\leq29.8kJ\;mol^{-1}$. The electrode kinetic parameters $(r,\;g,\;K,\;{\Delta}G_{\theta})$ depend strongly on ${\theta} (0{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}1)$.
NiCr thin films were fabricated by thermal evaporation method using NiCr alloy as evaporating source. NiCr thin films were annealed at various temperatures in air atmosphere in order to investigate effects of annealing conditions on phase change, composition, and microstructures of NiCr films. Typical multilayer was formed after annealing in air atmosphere. This results from the diffusion and oxidation of Cr toward surface during annealing. In the case of annealing at 700$^{\circ}C$, large columnar grains of NiO were formed on Cr-oxide layer through the diffusion and oxidation of Ni over Cr-oxide layer. Especially, NiO layer was formed additionally on surface, sustaining the underlayer structure with the formation of porous Ni layer.

AlN thin films were fabricated by reactive sputtering for the application of MIS devices with Al/AlN/Si structure. It has investigated the surface morphology change, I-V characteristics, C-V characteristics, and chemical composition of AlN films with the intriducing time of hydrogen on the fixed deposition condition(RF power: 150W, sputtering pressure: 5mTorr, flow rate ratio of $Ar/N_2=1$, hydrogen concentration: 5%). By addition of the hydrogen the deposition rate decreased drastically whereas the surface morphology changed little. It has been found from the analysis of I-V and C-V characteristics curves that the films deposited with hydrogen addition in initial stage had lower leakage current density, lower flat band voltage and hystersis profile when compared with those with hydrogen addition in last stage. The oxygen concentration in AlN films decreased with addition of hydrogen gas, which suggesting a profitable role in the insulation and C-V characteristics of AlN films.
The strength safety of high pressure gas cylinder has been analyzed by using a finite element method. In this study, the internal gas pressures of a steel bombe include a service charging pressure of $9kg/cm^2$, high limit charging pressure of $18.6kg/cm^2$, high limit of safety valve operation pressure $24.5kg/cm^2$, and hydraulic testing pressure of $34.5kg/cm^2$. The computed FEM results indicate that the strength safety for a service charging pressure of $9kg/cm^2$ and high limit charging pressure of $18.6kg/cm^2$ is safe because the stress of a gas cylinder is within yield strength of steel. But the stress for a hydraulic testing pressure of $34.5kg/cm^2$ sufficiently exceeds the yield strength and remains under the tensile strength. If the hydraulic testing pressures frequently apply to the gas cylinder, the bombe may be fractured because a fatigue residual stress is accumulated on the lower round end plate due to a plastic deformation. The computed results show that the concentrated force in which is applied on a skirt zone does not affect to the lower round end plate, and the most weak zone of a bombe is a middle part of a lower round end plate between a bombe body and a skirt for a gas pressure. Thus, the FEM results show that the profile of a lower round end plate is an important design parameter of a high pressure gas cylinder.
Defects of dam body which can be induced in seepage or leakage procedure can directly affect dam safety. Therefore, a proper inspection method should be carried out in the first place to find out their positions and sizes, After that, some reinforcement works such as grouting and the corresponding assessment could be taken in a proper way. The dam(center core type earth dam) issued in this study has been in need for intensive diagnosis and reinforcement work, because a lot of slumps similar to cracks, seepage and some boggy area have been observed on the downstream slope. High resolution seismic reflection method was performed on the crest profile twice before and after grouting work(Aug. 2001 and Nov. 2004) aimed at the dam inspection and the assessment of grouting efficiency as well. To enhance the data resolution, P-beam energy radiation technique which can reduce the surface waves and hence to reinforce the reflection events was used. Strong reflection events were recognized in the stack section before grouting work, It seems that the events would be caused by e.g. horizontal cracks with a considerable aperture, Meanwhile such strong reflection events were not observed in the section after grouting. That is, the grouting work was dear able to reinforce the defects of dam body. Hence, the section showed an well arranged picture of dam inner structure. In this sense, seismic reflection method will be a desirable technique for dam inspection and for monitoring dam inner structure as well.

Treatment of a large diseased area with electron often requires the use of two or more adjoining fields. In such cases, not only electron beam divergence and lateral scattering but also fields overlapping and separation may lead to significant dose inhomogeneities(${\pm}20%$) at the region of junction of fields. In this study, we made Acrylic Electron Wedges to improve dose inhomogeneities(${\pm}5%$) in these junction areas and to apply it to clinical practices. All measurements were made using 6, 9, 12, 16, 20 MeV Electron beams from a linear accelerator for a $10{\times}10\;cm$ field at 100cm of SSD. Adding a 1 mm sheet of acryl gradually from 1 mm to 15 mm acquires central axis depth dose beam profile and isodose curves in water phantom. As a result, for all energies, the practical range was reduced by approximately the same distance according to the acryl insert, e.g. a 1 mm thick acryl insert reduces the practical range by approximately 1 mm. For every mm thickness of acryl inserted, the beam energy was reduced to approximately 0.2 MeV. These effects were almost Independent of beam energy and field size. The use of Acrylic Electron Wedges produced a small increase(less than 3%) in the surface dose and a small increase(less than 1%) in X-ray contamination. For acryl inserts, thickness of 3 mm or greater, the penumbra width increased nearly linear for all energies and isodose curves near the beam edge were nearly parallel with the incident beam direction at the point of penumbra width($35\;mm{\sim}40\;mm$). We decide heel thickness and angle of the wedge at this point. These data provide the information necessary to design Acrylic Electron Wedge which can be used to improve dose uniformity at electron field junctions and it will be effectively applied to clinical practices.

Objective: This study consisted of two stages; the first was to determine the effect of extrusion and sieving treatments on the chemical properties of palm kernel cake (PKC), and accordingly, a follow-up experiment (second stage) was conducted to determine and compare the apparent metabolizable energy (AME), and protein and amino acid digestibility of extruded and sieved PKC. Methods: Two physical treatments, namely extrusion (using temperature profiles of 90℃/100℃/100℃, 90℃/100℃/110℃, and 90℃/100℃/120℃) and sieving (to 8 particles sizes ranging from >8.00 to 0.15 mm) were carried out to determine their effects on chemical properties, primarily crude protein (CP) and fiber contents of PKC. Based on the results from the above study, PKC that extruded with temperature profile 90/100/110℃ and of sieved size between 1.5 to 0.15 mm (which made up of near 60% of total samples) were used to determine treatments effect on AME and CP and amino acid digestibility. The second stage experiment was conducted using 64 male Cobb 500 chickens randomly assigned to 16 cages (4 cages [or replicates] per treatment) to the following four dietary groups: i) basal (control) diet, ii) basal diet containing 20% untreated PKC, iii) basal diet containing 20% extruded PKC (EPKC), and iv) basal diet containing 20% sieved PKC (SPKC). Results: Extrusion and sieving had no effect on CP and ash contents of PKC, however, both treatments reduced (p<0.05) crude fiber by 21% and 19%, respectively. Overall, extrusion and sieving reduced content of most of the amino acids except for aspartate, glutamate, alanine and lysine which increased, while serine, cysteine and tryptophan remained unchanged. Extrusion resulted in 6% increase (p<0.05) in AME and enhanced CP digestibility (p<0.05) by 32%, as compared to the untreated PKC while sieving had no effect on AME but improved CP digestibility by 39% which was not significantly different from that by extrusion. Conclusion: Extrusion is more effective than sieving and serves as a practical method to enhance AME and digestibility of CP and several amino acids in broiler chickens.
The spreading fire of very small floating particles after they are ignited is fast and t therefore dangerous. The research on this area has been limited to experiments and global simulations which treat them as dusts or gaseous fuel with certain concentration well m mixed with air. This research attempted micro-scale analysis of ignition of those particles modeling them as liquid droplets. For the beginning, the in-line array of fuel droplets is modeled by two-dimensional, unsteady conservation equations for mass, momentum, energy and species transport in the gas phase and an unsteady energy equation in the liquid phase. They are solved numerically in a generalized non-orthogonal coordinate. The single step chemical reaction with reaction rate controlled by Arrhenius’ law is assumed to a assess chemical reaction numerically. The calculated results show the variation of temperature and the concentration profile with time during evaporation and ignition process. Surrounding oxygen starts to mix with evaporating fuel vapor from the droplet. When the ignition condition is met, the exothermic reactions of the premixed gas initiate a and burn intensely. The maximum temperature position gradually approaches the droplet surface and maximum temperature increases rapidly following the ignition. The fuel and oxygen concentration distributions have minimum points near the peak temperature position. Therefore the moment of ignition seems to have a premixed-flame aspect. After this very short transient period minimum points are observed in the oxygen and fuel d distributions and the diffusion flame is established. The distance between droplets is an important parameter. Starting from far-away apart, when the distance between droplets decreases, the ignition-delay time decreases meaning faster ignition. When they are close and after the ignition, the maximum temperature moves away from the center line of the in-line array. It means that the oxygen at the center line is consumed rapidly and further supply is blocked by the flame. The study helped the understanding of the ignition of d droplet array and opened the possibility of further research.
