  • Small Hydro-Power (SHP) is an environmental friendly technology. Usually hydro power generation projects are viewed as constructing large dams and reservoirs but available new research and engineering techniques have helped hydro power generation without large dams and without large reservoirs. In India, there are several water installations, irrigation dams, canals, streams or running rivers not tapped to generate power. In these cases the existing system and facilities can help in generating power with less investment and time. This area is yet unexplored. Harnessing a stream for hydroelectric power is a major undertaking for the energy crises and the global issues to go green. In this technical note a potential site for mini hydro power plant nearby Shoolini University is identified and examined for the economic feasibility.

  • Recently due to the increasing of the importance on the green energy is getting higher by implementing EERS(Energy Efficiency Resource Standards) and NA(Negotiated Agreement) such as lacks of natural resources and The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. And the most practical solution is CHP(Combined Heat and Power) which performs the best energy efficiency. This paper developed optimal operation mechanism of CES(Community Energy System) for enhancement of energy efficiency using CHP(Combined Heat and Power), PLB(Peak Load Boiler) and ACC(ACCumulator) capacities. This method optimally operated these capacities calculated the maximum profits by Dynamic Programing. Through the case studies, it is verified that the proposed algorithm of can evaluate availability.

  • This paper presents the minimization of the energy costs based on energy saving for industrial retort process of canned food. The approved proposed method is related the optimal steam or hot water flow control to achieve desired temperature of retort process. The smooth response and zero steady state error can be also achieved. The performances of the proposed control technique were observed using a small tuna canned food plant in Thailand as an illustrative example. The experimental results are given to support the saving in energy costs and some benefits of the proposed technique.

  • Tele-operation and remote monitoring techniques are essential and important technologies for performing the inspection and repair tasks effectively in nuclear power plants. This paper presents the application of a mobile robot for the remote monitoring and inspection of the Calandria faces, where human access is limited because of the high-level radioactive environments during full power operation. The mobile robot was designed with reconfigurable crawler type of wheels attached on the front and rear side in order to pass through the ditch. The extendable mast, mounted on the mobile robot, can be extended up to 8 m vertically. This robot was also equipped a visible CCD/thermal infrared inspection head module and a stereo camera module for the enhancement of visual inspection.

  • Photosynthesis of plant, algae, and certain types of bacteria can convert solar energy to electrons at high efficiency. There have been many research investigations to utilize this mechanism to develop photosynthetic bio-solar energy systems. In this article, the fundamentals of photosynthetic energy conversion mechanism are explained and various approaches are introduced and discussed.

  • The One-dimensional fin model is used to analyze the angular wall temperature variation of long horizontal lines, where stratification could result in top-to-bottom differences in wall temperatures. The top and bottom sections are treated separately and coupled by boundary conditions. The thermal stratification analysis is focused on the effects of the heat transfer rates at the pipe surface. The results show that the heat transfer rate at the pipe surface is the controlling parameter which reduce significantly the temperature difference in pipe circumferential direction. The one-dimensional fin modelling analysis results are verified by comparison with the operating PWR test data. The circumferential temperatures of pipe calculated by one-dimensional fin modelling agree well with the PWR plant test data.

  • The Atmospheric Dump Valve (ADV) and Turbine Bypass Valve (TBV) capacity test was performed at 30% power level during the YGN 3 Power Ascension Test period. In this test, several plant data were measured to calculate the ADV and TBV capacity considering that critical condition was developed through the ADV and TBV. The test results show that the test acceptance criteria are met.

  • In this paper, the self-organizing fuzzy logic controller is developed for water level control of steam generator. In comparison with conventional fuzzy logic controllers, this controller performs control task with no control rules at initial and creates control rules as control behavior goes on, and also modifies its control structure when uncertain disturbance is suspected. Selected parameters in the fuzzy logic controller are updated on-line by the gradient descent loaming algorithm based on the performance cost function. This control algorithm is applied to water level control of steam generator model developed by Lee, et al. The computer simulation results confirm good performance of this control algorithm in all power ranges. This control algorithm can be expected to be used for automatic control of feedwater control system in the nuclear power plant with digital instrumentation and control systems.

  • At the reference plant(Wolsong unit No. 1) a manual poison sampling system is provided to periodically sample gadolinium from each tank and analyze it in the laboratory to provide assurance that adequate poison concentration in each tank is maintained. The AECB required a continuous, on-line monitoring system. On Wolsong unit No. 2, process piping adapter and new instrument loops added to the Liquid Injection Shutdown System(LISS) which is part of SDS2. The new instrument loops continuously monitor SDS2 poison conductivity and initiate an alarm when the poison concentration is too low.

  • This paper describes a study of major shipyard's electrical network and simulation of applying flywheel energy storage system on the electrical network at shipyard for shore-power to ships and offshore plants in order to save fuel consumption on engines, mitigate voltage sags, and prevent blackout due to pulsed load and fault, resulting in reduction of air emission into atmosphere. The proposed energy recycling method with FESS (Flywheel Energy Storage System) can be applied for electrical power system design of heavy cranes at shipyards.
